Hey all. Sorry to bug, but what's everyone thinking for lighting inside the lodge (for the ball)? Warmish, brighter light, or cool dimly lit...? I have no preference, but if anyone's already written this into their stories, please share!

Thank you much,
~Otus
Otus,

I just ignored that aspect, particularly since the significant portion of mine takes place out on the balcony . . .

Thinks: Balcony? What balcony? I created the lodge - there is no outdoor balcony. Must edit story! Make it the terrace. Careless, Alex, very careless!

Alex

PS: I've edited the Lodge description in the Settings Database.

Thanks Alex, I was actually wondering if what you described wouldn't work out. :)

As for lights, unless I hear otherwise I'll be writing in a warmer lighting scheme. I think that would compliment the rustic feel more than the other. Also, it leaves things more open. If someone needs blue light, there's always the moon outside.

Otus, I think the lighting would be warm. Low, perhaps, but definitely on the warm side. And as you say, there's always the moon.

I'm sorry guys. I won't be able to be a part of the crew. Going through some things, and Lit. will no longer be a part of my life.

No big loss for y'all in the story dept., but I had offered my services as editor or helper-outer, and it's not going to be happening.

Had my masquerade ball story done tonight, too...:(

I am definitely going to miss you guys a whole frigging lot.

Lots of love to the guys and gals who taught me a good bit of what I know about "these things."

:rose: Last bits of huggins, guys.
With love,
~Otus

Map Changes

Map 3 in the 'Sticky' has been modified slightly. Max's 'Showboat Hotel' is now shown. There are a couple of adjacent buildings too - one of them not yet specified if anyone wants to stake a claim.

Christmas Stories Announcement

ANNOUNCEMENT
Christmas Stories

All being well, there will be a Christmas Special Bumper Issue. I would like each Snippettsville Group author to contribute one single story for the Bumper Issue.

The Snippettsville Christmas will contain all the usual elements of
Christmas time, i.e. a Santa - thus allowing for a little fantasy, a
little drink and festivities, some traditional gift giving... No
big party in one place though, this is more a family/relative type
of event.

The emphasis is to be on 'intimacy' rather than 'orgy' (thanks Alex for that distinction. :) )

Closing date for the stories will be November 30th, 2003. Please put 'Christmas story' at the top above your story title. That will help me to quickly sift through the stories posted at a time of the year which is going to be extremely busy for me.

(I hope to PM all SG authors with this notice in the next day or two.)

Have fun with this one. And yes, I will get on everyone's backs about it, cos I can :D :) :p :rose:

Hi Doffy, welcome aboard the Snippettsville train! :) I hope you enjoy your stay with us. :) Thanks for your first contribution.

I understand that Alex has PMed you, so I'll give you a breather and just point you in the direction of the Snippettsville 'sticky' at the top of this forum.

Please feel free to shout if you need help with anything or if you have questions. We don't bite, well, not too badly. ;)

Hello

Hello and thanks for the welcome.

I Have been playing PM tag with Alex all afternoon it seems trying to get all of this straight. I didn't know what I was getting into last night when I posted my little slice of Snippettsville. I hadn't realized you all had been doing this for a while. I didn't realize there were maps and everything to go along with the story. I THINK I've got it all straight now though.

I've had a change of heart when it comes to the story. No, I'm not quitting, I'm going to change the focus of my story. I was going to concentrate on my two newlyweds. I think now, having read the posts and learned all there was to know about Snippettsville, I think it might be better to concentrate on the Inn itself.

I've done some editting on my story, taken out a reference to a road that doesn't exist (My apologies for that.) and located the inn JUST outside the city.

I put in the name of a road, hope no one minds. It's the road that crosses Willotts Creek and South Main. I've named it Willott's Ferry Road. I will put up a description of the Inn probably late tonight on the setting descriptions board as well as another post introducing a new character and explaining WHY the newlyweds were mentioned at all. I've also renamed the Inn to be "The Willott's Ferry Inn."

Thank you Alex for helping me get all this straight.

PierceStreet,

I love it. When the Masquerade Ball and Christmas specials are done, perhaps in the New Year, you must run that again and we'll have a Snip Challenge to see who can use the most of those in one 600-word story!

Dancing nanas

Try not to be envious :p of me. I'm finished my masquerade:nana:, another installment in the Cheri/Randy story:nana:, and one Christmas story:nana:. I feel a need to get these out of the way before the nanowrimo write-a-thon starts next week.

I'd like to submit a second Christmas story, if I may. There's one burning a hole inside my brain. Let me know if you're going to set limits :p, please.

Only one story per author will go through into the Christmas Special

Hi Carrie,

I think you may write as many Christmas stories as you like, but you must choose which one you would prefer to go through into the Christmas edition, and title it in some clear manner that will let me know at a glance that it's the story of your choice.

Next year, I hope to get to the Christmas stories section in the middle of the year, thus allowing more time for the nitty gritty editing and sifting work. With a deadline of the end of November that gives enough time to write, as well as enough time to edit, it would be unrealistic of me to think I could get through more than one story per author.

Glad you're hooked on writing! :)

Dear Gauche (nearly called you Gauchie),

You are close to coming off as cute. Watch it. ;)

Gauchecritic you look good in bold anytime... And man, I have to tell you, those specs sure look grand.

'Tales' Issue 5 is posted

No score, no votes as yet, but it just went up!

Later: I kept an eye on the votes this afternoon. We only have seven, as at 18:15GMT, but four were fives and two were fours. The other was a troll IQ. Average 4.14.

Later still (22:30GMT): 10 votes now, average 4.20, from 6x5; 2x4; 1x3; 1x1. Going offline shortly, so won't be able to keep an eye on it. If it wasn't for the troll, we might have had an 'H' to go with our 'E'.

Following day (!) 21:00 GMT Monday - 4.50 from 18 votes.

Your opinions needed please.

Firstly, Laurel says 'Hi!' to us all. :)

Secondly, she's raised a question for us to think about and answer.

Would we like to enter our Christmas Issue into the Christmas contest?

The prize, should we win, would be either a) an alternate prize for all authors involved, or b) we could split the money equally.

Your thoughts?

I say do enter, mainly to give us more coverage. If we win dollars I gladly give up my share of any live cash to WSO and Alex.

Perdita

Yes enter, I may have a chance of winning a competition, to go with the only E I've ever been associated with. I'll gladly accept all prize moneys on behalf of everyone else.

Two questions.

1. What's the alternative prize?

2. Just how 'bumper' is this bumper edition? Everybody?

Gauche

to answer questions...

I would like the bumper Christmas Issue to contain a story from each and every Snippettsville Group author.

I don't know as yet the 'alternative' prize that Laurel would let us have should we win. I think we will cross that bridge a little later on.

Speaking for myself, thanks for the comments about the 'live cash' winnings, but I'm doing this because... (hell, why am I doing this?) I'm doing this because I saw a need and decided to fill a gap. I think the majority of us are working hard for the SG and any rewards should be shared equally. *smiling*

I have some photos that may or may not fit Snipps, up to all others to decide. I think they may be more evocative than illustrative compared to the art work so far used. I will be very fine if it's decided they don't fit.

I have still to take pics of a lake down my street, hopefully it will serve as Green Lake. I believe I can only post one photo per post so here goes.

Perdita
