Stories I Suspect Have Been 1 Bombed

There's truth in this statement.

Submitting stories here is just a bit of fun. Nobody should take anything that happens on this site seriously, unless of course you're getting some constructive criticism that actually helps you as a writer. That I like, but it is rare to even get that. The coolest thing I find is my visitor number and feel it's cool that thousands of people have had a go at reading one of my little stories.

My best calculation of the Views is that about 25% of them are inflation above the norm caused by Lit's high profile and large number of visitors, which attracts bots of every shape, size, and color.

( Derived by comparing view/download counts on the same stories in multiple genres posted across several sites, cross-referenced with Alexa traffic ratings )

I suspect that they filter the normal bots ( search engines, social media ) out of the views, because they're easy to identify and another post from the far flung past mentioned that the views would be about 50% higher if the raw numbers were posted. The logical thing to leave out is known bots and clicks on multiple pages of the same story ( which access the same row of the database )

All of mine have been 1 bombed on multiple occasions. I used to have 6 H rated stories and now it's down to 3. Every time I make the popular Authors list, I get nuked. I even get hate mail. It totally sucks.

If you don't have a personal troll, aren't posting in LW with its competing camps of haters, and aren't posting in squickier categories where moral monitors down-vote stories simply because they exist ( Incest, Non-Con, Transexuals, Gay Male, etc. ) then the sweeps do a fair job of wiping out the bulk of the malicious down-voting.

I have posted a couple in Gay Male, but not in any of the others categories you mention. Interestingly my last submission was in Gay Male and I got over 150 votes for it in a week which was like nothing I had ever seen before with my stories. I usually top out around 50-70 votes. Thankfully even with that amount of votes my score for that story stayed in the low 4's.

I did submit a cuckold series recently that got 1-bombed heavily in the Fetish category. Life goes on though.

You pretty much have to stay in the squick categories to keep "offending" those readers enough to have them chase you all over the site bombing everything you post.

Once they stop seeing your name in the category, they forget about you, and your scores steadily recover.

Every other comment you see about cuckold in LW is "Put this sick shit in Fetish where it belongs!"

Then they come to the fetish category and complain about "sick cuck stories"

Want to see some really amazing numbers without venturing into incest? Post a May/December story in Mature. Keep it with the older character mid-40s at most, and about 15 year difference to the younger. Keep it to around 3 Lit pages, have just enough character development to carry the story, and lots of hot sex.

I was baffled the first time I posted there by the numbers I got ( Category changed by Laurel from Erotic Couplings, and so glad she did ) It's nothing unusual at all for me to pull in 1000 votes on one of those.

Longer stories of this type won't get as many votes, but they'll still get good vote totals, higher scores, and lots of comments and favorites.

If you like that type of story, there's a hungry and engaged readership there for you to exploit.

I use these erotic stories as a way to experiment with my writing so any feedback is just a guide to me, more than a life changing event. I'm still fairly new at this site so I haven't pissed too many people off yet except for my cuckold story. But I even understand why that received a negative response, so I'm cool with it. Also I tend to write niche stories rather than stuff that's been done a million times before, so that's why you wont find me in the categories you mentioned that get it worse.

I have to agree although I wouldn't have put it quite like that. The elephant in the room here that nobody seems willing to address is the fact that some authors are using the same methods the trolls use to 5-bomb their stories to artificially inflate their scores. This is why you can't really trust the voting score whatsoever as a guide to how good a story is. Authors 5-bombing their stories so they can get on the Top Lists etc?

The whole voting algorithm in the sites software needs an overhaul to stop the abuse of it at either end of the spectrum.

I mean, you can see it happening. Scores oughta conform to normal distribution if the voting is square, with 3s the largest group. But when both ends of the distribution are skewed (lotsa 1s and 5s) you gotta wonder about fraud. I call it THE LIT FRIENDS, FAMILIY, & FRAUD PLAN.

Just use this site for your own reasons and don't worry about the politics of the forum. That's how you make enemies and get into the position of being attacked by some people. Snide remarks or passive aggressive posts will get you nowhere, just like in life. Being on this forum to just try and eek out a sense of superiority over others makes you just as bad as the trolls.

Write for your own enjoyment. Submit because regardless of votes, comments or whatever; there are people out there that probably enjoy reading your stories. So do it for them, not for the critics or the forum kings. Peace.

Why? Because almost everything has a distribution of lovers and haters and folks who don't care one way or another. Two-thirds can take it or leave it, another third run either hot or cold, and 4% are fanatics one way or the other. The distribution oughta look like: 1 (2%)2 (16%)3(66%)4(16%)5(2%).

I don't read Gay Male or Romance or some of the others, and most readers know whats what. So youre not gonna get many folks reading what bores or offends them from the git-go. What you oughta get are interested readers with different standards and sentiments about specific categories. And when the scores are mostly 1s and 5s you pretty much know someone launched a flying monkey attack.

Putting it simply, I don't know how to lose or fail.

I have all kinds of education: From school of hard knocks to masters degrees, and the what I take the most pride in is my sheet metal pattern school diploma (4 years) and my diplomas for welding, air conditioning repair, and electrical power mechanics. First, you don't have any ratings for stories under your forum name. You turned the ratings off. That said, of course your story ratings would be down. You're a colossal jerk on the forum, including toward the work of others, and your stories aren't erotic--and this is an erotica writing site. Naturally they wouldn't be given full writing skills value.

Second, the "normal distribution" comment is out of whack. Stories should score higher if they are better than average and lower if they aren't. "Normal distribution" has absolutely nothing to do with story quality.

It got deleted after I reported it to Laurel, but the funny thing is that the person who copied my story had a much higher score than I did.

That removes you from ranking on the toplists, which is becoming a stronger stream of readership gain due to the 30 day and 1 year lists.

Half the people 1-bombing would probably consider that a victory, as a lot of it has historically had to do with manipulating the toplists.

It got deleted after I reported it to Laurel, but the funny thing is that the person who copied my story had a much higher score than I did.

But just to show how inconsistent even that is an author I am friendly with that used to go by fist of fury (the back rub for Julia series) changed his author name through the site.

When he relisted back rub the scores were brutal and people were accusing him of stealing from himself.

It also happened to manyfeathers. he wrote some stuff under the name sandman and when he re-released a story under the new name got flamed and called a thief.

Seems like the opposite happened to you. Strange, you're pretty popular with the incest readers I would have figured they would have recognized it.
