There's truth in this statement.
Submitting stories here is just a bit of fun. Nobody should take anything that happens on this site seriously, unless of course you're getting some constructive criticism that actually helps you as a writer. That I like, but it is rare to even get that. The coolest thing I find is my visitor number and feel it's cool that thousands of people have had a go at reading one of my little stories.
My best calculation of the Views is that about 25% of them are inflation above the norm caused by Lit's high profile and large number of visitors, which attracts bots of every shape, size, and color.
( Derived by comparing view/download counts on the same stories in multiple genres posted across several sites, cross-referenced with Alexa traffic ratings )
I suspect that they filter the normal bots ( search engines, social media ) out of the views, because they're easy to identify and another post from the far flung past mentioned that the views would be about 50% higher if the raw numbers were posted. The logical thing to leave out is known bots and clicks on multiple pages of the same story ( which access the same row of the database )
