I'm trying to get Anne's computer going again - I am working from it now. Getting all the upgrades is a pain...

Then I want to set up a LAN.

That is about all I have on the list for today - if I get it all going, I am going to need a nap.

:) $
hmmm a nap ;) Sounds like a plan chief...

Doesn't seem to be much slower than usual. But I haven't been on. Maybe Weenie is tying up the transAtlantic cable talking with Friend #1.

Heavens to Betsy - what a day...

I got it all done. A functioning LAN in the Buck Household. Printer sharing and a shared 250G harddrive, shared Music, Pictures, and Favorites. Both computers are running the same versions of the same software, except where it makes no sense.

Of interest perhaps, is the fact that The Windows XP Professional that shipped with Anne's computer is 61 updates, including two service packs out of date. I knew it would be large, but no idea that large - I'd left it on for 3 days so it could download everything.

Office 2003, is 12 updates, and a Service pack out of date with a version that shipped a couple years ago.

The Broadband took a significant hit today.

Now I am down for the evening. If I wasn't so tired, I would pat my back for the excellent job I did on these ribs. They are yummy.

I want to start learning a new song "Forked Deer" - but I think a nap is going to win out...

Hope everybody's day was just dandy...

Heh, I have Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002. After crashing twice within two months last summer, and spending long hours to re-install everything, I got pissed. So I never installed SP I and II and I turned off the Windows Automatic Updates. I figured, if a system works, why mess with it to make it more complicated and therefore more prone to crashing?
And I'm keeping my Office 2000, it's a great version :D

Ouchie! Sorry hon :(

I know I've posted this at least twice before in Lit but no idea if you ever came across it... please pay special attention to #9...

Murphy's Top 10 Laws Of Computing

1. When computing, whatever happens, behave as though you meant it to happen.

2. When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it's probably obsolete.

LOL - That is a pretty good list. :D

There is a law that is missing, for when stuff starts to go wrong...

Reboot. Even if it makes no sense. Reboot, whatever it is might go away. Lots of anomalies in the computer world. Reboot.

I finally got it all in order again. One problem however, both computers have to be on if I'm going to work with the shared resources. But then that would be the case if I had a server.

Music day today. Gonna leave the cars alone. Work on the music.

I should go golfing, but we've gotten so much rain as of late that the course is like a muddy ole swamp. Any depression has standing water in it.

Well, the coffee is finally cooked. Stop by and have a cup, if you've a mind to...

Morning Mav! Doesn't it tho... I may need to slow down on it however. I just noticed that I'm grinding my teeth, usually a sign that I've had a bit too much caffien (sp?)

There is something neat happening with the bluegrass picking, in both flat and and flat picking for that matter. I've noticed that I will hear an idea in my head, and my fingers will sort of automatically play it, or at least come pretty close - I may need to smooth it out some, but then practice should solve that some, but sometimes the idea requires a completely new technique and it has to be dialed in.

Part of this is due to practicing the scales for the key of the song I am working on at the time. Another "trick" is to play the song in other keys - on the guitar, or the way I play it, those keys are C, A, G, E, and D - CAGED. I have found a couple of DVDs that teach that principle - I may get them and really pound it home.

Why just those keys? The Guitar is primarily a "sharp" instrument, and the notes of the strings fit those keys so many more open strings are available. It is easier to note, but open strings also continue ringing, so it is possible to create chords with a succession of notes and have them sustain while you answer with a harmony - stuff like that. That is why the Capo and the music theory accompanying it is so important in bluegrass and fingerpicking, two diciplines that enjoy open strings.

Anyhow, that is a neat deal. Think it and play it - hear it and play it. But it can be distracting too. I can wander off, tripping musically, having a cool idea, one after another - then sort of go whoa... how in the hell did I get here? Trouble is, some of those are pretty cool, and have melody possibilities - but it is hard to get back to them.

I may need to start recording my practice sessions and then edit the results - pull the neat stuff out, and trash the rest. It wouldn't take long to fill up a 250 Gig HD doing that (the recorders save the files as .wav... best for editing, but not the most efficient way to store audio data.

Ms. Audrey is a hoot, and a pain... I have figured out one of her things. She comes whining around me in the office or the studio in the morning.

What?

Yeowl

I scratch her ear and she yeowls and takes off for the kitchen, but comes back a yeowling if I don't follow her. So I follow her. I point out that she has food and return to what I was doing. Soon she is back and we are doing the yeowl pet trick again.

Then I had an idea and tried it. I sat down in the dining room (they are attached - same space really) and started talking to her and she set up shop eating and purring. Every once in a while she would come wind around my legs and make her pleased little chirp. If I put a couple ice cubes in her water, then she is doubly pleased.

So she just wants company when she eats, and she thinks I should drop everything and accomodate her.

We are still trying to sort out who's wearing the jeans in this place.

Pea does something similar. Not with eating but she likes to sit on my lap. If I am moving around too much she now takes advantage of a kitchen chair I brought in to the computer room when when Cindy was here. I put a folded up quilt on the seat and it is not too far from the computer desk and in the line of sight (nothing in the way) so she can see me easily. She has taken to sleeping on the quilt so she can just look up and see me anytime she wants. :catroar:

Another cute thing she does when Cindy is here. We eat at the kitchen table and I have a little flat basket with plastic store bags folded up in it. She jumps up on the table and goes to sit in the basket while we are eating. Just wants to be part of the action and doesn't try to get in the food.

Funny how they get. Ms Audrey used to like to perch on the TV and watch me work, and look outside and keep track of the world as it pertained to her. With Summer coming, I closed the window and the blinds and she was none too happy about this. She would nudge and push at the blinds with her nose until I tired of it and put her down, none to gracefully. She still tries to get up there when I am not paying attention to her.

Then I up and replaced the TV with an HD LCD for Forza and there is no place for her to sit and she is really torqued. She bitched at me for a couple weeks and tried to figure out how to get up there anyhow. The thing weighs less than 30 pounds and I don't want her tipping it over - its been a real war of wills on this one, I had to start swatting her butt and she finally gave it up.

Walmart sells a folding bar stool for $10 bucks and I may park one strategically near the foot stool I keep in there. She will be able to get high enough to monitor things in the office that way. But don't tell her. I am going to leak it in, like it is fortunate set of circumstances. If she knows I did it on purpose, she'll think she won...

You two are so cute....all the little ladies want is a little bit of attention an company....you know stroke me...talk to me...and when they don't get it they bitch like real woman do :catroar:

I have a showing on the house this afternoon.... :) :)

Figure even if the house doesn't work for the people it might work for someone they know....the more people an agents that see it the better....though it would be really cool to have to show it only once....wishful thinking....

Well back to cleaning and plotting an planning....kisses
