I've been reading, and came to the same conclusion.........take care :D
 
It seems to me that Scott's friend did exactly what he wanted to do. It was not circumstances that forced him to do it, it was by his own choice. Apparently he could have stayed where he was and provide lavishly for his old parents with house help or a luxurious home for the elderly. He chose to go back and look after them himself. His choice!

I can't possibly imagine what his take is on how his life turned out or if he looks back and wonders "What if....".
We all look back and think "What if...." about a million choices that we have made in the past. If we do so and then start beating ourselves for taking wrong turns, it certainly does not help any.

Also if we think back and start banging our head on the wall for all the lemons that life has handed us, again we don't accomplish anything constructive.
We could say "Life is a bitch and I'm going to hold my breath until I'm blue in the face and die, so there!" and proceed to do so.... or, we can pick up the pieces and try and look ahead positively.

There is beauty and fulfillment everywhere around us, Macx, if only we allow ourselves to see it. Years ago, when I was sinking fast into depression, a friend from Lit opened my eyes to the fact and turned my life around. He is seven years younger than I am but light years ahead in wisdom. He said "I live each day as if it was a festive holiday... perhaps an unusual holiday but I am determined to celebrate it" ... and that was coming from a man who busted his butt daily to make ends meet and his personal life sucked big time.

When your time comes, your last thoughts could be "I spent my last years inhaling and exhaling, disconnected from my surroundings" .... or "I celebrated every single second on this earth and made it count!".
Your choice!

Oh, I understand all that. I really do. In fact, I equipped myself for just such a got-dammer-rung (I saw this word once - I have totally butchered the spelling and google offered no immediate cures. It means, or should mean, death run).

But the thought of taking off on such an adventure without Annie ends up trumping my best intentions.

I guess I don't know what to say about that. Cowboy up, maybe.

I suppose I am just a bit irritated that my heart didn't blow up the second she died so I could go with her.

And there is not much about this life that I like without her.

Its all a big assed mess and makes my teeth itch...

I am HOPING the "terrible" reference was made to the Ringo video...cause I'm thinking that the video we took of Macx playing "Dance with me Annie" turned out pretty DAM GOOD!
