The 2022 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

Is it just my choice of a very niche subject or is the reader participation in the Geek Pride Day event even lower than last year? I have worse numbers than on my non-contest stuff and the lack of comments REALLY stings after the work Loqui and I poured into the story.
They posted all of the stories on a Wednesday.

In my limited experience, I've noticed my stories which posted on Friday through Monday received better view numbers. So, just the decision to make the cutoff and bulk posting mid-week may contribute to lower responses.

However, my Loving Wives story is tracking about as I would expect. But those LW trolls are a dedicated bunch of haters who probably have nothing better to do during the week anyway.

😂
I usually get hammered by the grammar police whose interpretation of word tense is forged in steel and cannot be slighted.

It's not like the deadline dates were published weeks and months in advance.....oh wait, they were.

Find the funny in life people.
If o
Woke up to find my story NOT PUBLISHED again. I've pulled it. The majority of the readership is already days past. A story I spent months on deserves better than this treatment. I'll pick up a cover and publish it on Amazon and take the $$$$ instead.

Anyone else who didn't get published in the first round seeing their stories not published either? I am wondering if the Geek Pride memo in the notes is hanging it up?

I submitted 3 stories, the first two were submitted as soon as the instructions said it was permissible to submit. I got bored waiting for them to post so I wrote a third while the muse was still singing, and I finished and submitted it with 12 hours to go before the deadline. I really didn't expect it to get published, I was just happy to put something that I liked together before the deadline.

I only have 15 published stories, but I know full well that they take a week to go through whatever pre-publishing magic must occur, so I wasn't surprised that #3 is still in the on-deck circle. If we were getting paid I'd be upset, but we're not being paid, this is supposed to be fun and I am having a riot writing stories and reading other people's awesome work.

I think very few people find stories via the Geek Pride page - most will be via category hubs or tags as usual. The event just adds a few extra readers who are more likely to enjoy stories rather than strokers.

With my sequel story I managed to get my lowest score ever (3.3 at one point from 11 votes) so I clearly pissed someone off, but I'm not sure how, given the first story scored fine. I got a bunch of unexpected comments which were all lovely and really improved a crap day.

I've this too, I noticed that some of my first scores on this and On The Job were strangely low, then the scores came up later. Personally I've been having a hard time finding the event pages also, I just hope that when the Beta goes live it's easier to find contests and events from the front page. Lit's front page has always appeared jumbled to me.

I'm surprised how few views and low votes I'm getting. I thought EC would be ok, even considering the geeky aspect.

I'm still new to events like this (this is #2 for me) and happy to get any views, what kind of numbers are you expecting?

Actually, the views have jumped up overnight. That's the problem with living on the other side of the world to most readers.

So far I have 6.3k views and a score of 3.89 off 18 votes. Definitely some 1-bombs in there but I had hoped to double the votes by now.

Ah well, I'm happy with my story. Oh, and a shout out to Yowser and Kumquatqueen for their nice comments. I appreciate it. :)

Wow, that's 6 times the views I get, but my vote scores are a bit higher.
Hey, can I borrow the line "Ghost Writers In The Sky" please? One of my characters is an AC-130 gunship gunner and their "theme song" is Ghost Riders In The Sky, and an idea or two popped into my head as he comes up for his final flight in a Specter gunship in an upcoming chapter. I'll try to work in credit for you.

4.81@21 votes, 1.7k views, two comments (and one of those is from my co-author). SF/F. Like I said above, my non-event submissions used to draw better numbers.

Well, there you go. I'll stop complaining.

Of course, you can use the line. Just give one of your very minor characters my name and I'll be happy.

Oh, and BJ - I'm halfway through your story. It's very good.

@Rustyoznail : That's kind of you. Without Loqui's polish, it would probably only be half as good - or unfinished, like so many half-manifested plot bunnies howling in Limbo.

I pissed off a Demtard on the Politics Board and he told me that he was going to tank my story ratings and get all his baby carrot friends to do so as well.

My Geek Pride story is barely hanging on the "Hot" label now.

I think a few have crawled under the door to visit me as well. There should be a sweep in a week or so that will clean out most of the dodgy scores.

My story is doing pretty great, already at 177 votes and 18.3k views. And, most delightfully, 11 comments. Well, 2 of the 11 comments weren't delightful, but oh well, the unhappy readers are in the minority =]

It's already well surpassing my Christmas story that was also in the Mature category. Not sure why that is, but I'm pleased.

Aaaaaand the 1-bombs start rolling in. I wish those idiots would leave a note why they hate the story that much. At least once? Pretty please?

I can usually get published in two to three week days. From what Chloe had said, I was sort of expecting Friday. Apparently not.

I've got six new followers from mine, and some Favourites on a number of stories. So I'm happy. I suspect several of the one-bombs will vanish in a couple weeks, but several of my most-favourited stories have low scores.

Mine - 'Triple Fun for the Triplets' - kind of crashed and burned in Incest Taboo. It got a reasonable number of views and favourites, but the score is poor and the only two comments have been negative, both saying it was boring. I try to write amusing stories for the IT Crowd, but it only seems to annoy them. Oh well, maybe I should write an amusing story for the Loving Wives crowd. Oh wait, already done that several times and it seemed to have the same effect of annoying them. Whoever would have thought?

I noticed that too. My Geek Pride story last year did very well, there were plenty for submitted across many different genres and all seemed to attract plenty of positive interest. This year though, not so good.

I just received such a 1-bomb explanation on my Geek story after one other anon comment called out the trolls:

"Anonymous user on 1 hour ago

LOL one idiot is talking about trolls. Look in the mirror and you'll recognize one. Shared wife is willing cuckoldry which in my opinion always relates to garbage, so therefore a one star rating is rewarded. Always, no exceptions."

With 82 votes on my story so far, I must have over 60 ones to hold the 1.70 average in the LW story!

I wonder if it's setting a record?
