The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

I'm so glad you enjoyed this selection!

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

I really liked the sex scenes, despite the lack of literary merit and the author's preference for using certain phrases over and over and over--like someone's "pussy weeping," and someone being "almost preternaturally aware" of someone's something or other. A thesaurus might have worked well in some parts.

However, I liked the detail of the sex scenes and seeing everything spelled out for me. I really liked the telepathic sex they had--I thought it was imaginative and interesting.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

The story could have used some work, as others have noted. I did think the discussion of rape and how that affected Keisha and her life was insightful. It was also interesting to see how sex and erotic love was involved in her healing.

I HATED the pussy weeping thing so much!

I personally think getting a raped woman all horny and then providing sexual healing might not be the best way to go. LOL.

However the mental links might have helped. I've always enjoyed but not quite believed the notion that if you could read someone's mind you couldn't help but love them.

The pussy weeping might have been ok if she used it once or possibly twice--but I think it was in every single sex scene.

Healing the raped woman with sex wasn't the most realistic choice, but I did think the subject matter was handled with sensitivity. I also thought it was interesting how the therapist couldn't help--maybe showing that therapy isn't the solution for everyone. :D

The mental links were really interesting to me--even though the dialogue inside their heads was as bad as when they were actually talking. I never heard the notion that you couldn't help but love someone if you could read their mind--I'm a little scared what people would think if they could get inside my head.

I think I first read that about being able to read each others minds and therefore not being able to help loving each other, in a Piers Anthony series or maybe even in a Heinlein novel.

I don't buy it. I think some people are just deep down, fucked up, MEAN. I wouldn't want to be able to read their minds. Or what about sociopaths? I wouldn't love them, even if I could read their minds. I mean ew!

Now I definitely want to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I keep picking it up in the bookstore, but haven't taken the plunge. . . .

True. Still I'd like to believe if we really understood MOST people we'd love and accept them.

:rose:

I want to read that one too. I just wonder if it's really BDSM?

:rose:

We'll only know if we read it. . . . :D

I read Memoirs of a Geisha, not specifically BDSM, but interesting in light of sexual slavery. I wondered how accurate it was in its details. And found it fascinating that it was written by a man.

I'm willing. I LOVED Memoirs! It was BDSM IMO but it did bring up issues and was a great novel. I wondered how a white man in TN knew so much about the Geisha!

:rose:

Maybe most people. Some people defy understanding, though. It's when you start understanding them that you gotta worry about yourself.

Well I will admit that I have not touched the book that we are supposed to be reading for this month, but I have started the sequel. I like it, but for one thing, man if I was half vampire I would be rejoicing in all the positives instead of moaning that I have better strength, a longer life and so on and so forth. Yeah I think the main character is a whiney bitch.

You just reminded me I haven't read the book either.

I'm off to my library web site to see whats up with not getting it?

So which book should be our Jan 2010 read???

17.) Topping From Below by Laura Reese.

18.) As She's Told by Anneke Jabob (Who I met on Fetlife btw and I now own this one.)

These two look good. I am also ok with Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton as I have already read it. I want the next one though I think she should have stopped the series with Swallowing Darkness.

Sounds good to me! Anyone else want to chime in???

Topping From Below by Laura Reese.

I have read As She's Told by Anneke Jacob so I'd be glad to share my thoughts when that time comes around.

Unfortunately, November's selection was discarded..left unfinished..not even half way through. I was disappointed that it held no interest for me. Perhaps me and my mind will refer back to it a few months down the road.

:rose:

Hey, if you are not enjoying a book you should put it down, IMO.

Okay, we are down to two books now for January.

I'm good with either of those books.

Anyone else have any thoughts about these books?

:rose:

I vote for the ones I voted for last month, but I'd like to add a one to the list:

Wild Rain, by Christine Feehan

FYI, The Slave by Laura Antoniou is my fetlife BOTM, well there are two but anyway, it's burning me up!

I didn't really like the first book so this one is a nice though frustrating surprise! Only, me so horny.

:D

Either of these two works for me.

I finished this month's selection. Definitely not something I would have chosen for myself, but it kept my interest and made the bus rides to and from work much more bearable. :D

I still have not read this month's selection. I have been reading the sequel though because I had already bought it...I like it a lot but I swear if I read the word shag one more time I might scream.
