Um, did I forget August 2012 entirely BOTM wise? Seems so. Okay friends and book lovers, pick a book, any book that is your fav erotic, BDSM novel, or BDSM how too and weigh in on it. How about that?
So. It's the end of August! Remember how I forgot to pick a book and no one else had an opinion for August? Remember how I said, "Everyone pick a fav BDSM book and post about it? Now is the time! This is going to be fun!
One of our earliest BDSM, BOTMs was Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey.
Personally I LOVED it! I would say I've been dissappointed - neutral on the majority of BOTMs that we've done but this one was and remains one of my all time favs!
When I first saw that is was 700 pages I was worried that I wouldn't have time to finish it in a month. I was even more worried that it would put other people who wanted to read with us off.
Opening the book there were even more signs of possible trouble. A map was in there. I don't usually like books with freaking maps. Not only that but there also were 3 pages of character names. I remember thinking to myself, if I have to refer back to these pages then the book isn't written well enough.
Being the kind of person I am, I decided that I would at least try to read the book. I read the first chapter and found myself sucked in. The book was done all too soon. The only consolation was that there are more books!
Unlike the most selections, this one had character development and IMO more real BDSM though it was cloaked in service as a courtesan and for the Gods and/or royalty.
I cared much more about the characters and outcome in general. I LOVED that she enjoyed the pain to the point of orgasm. Even more, I loved how she could read her patrons. She used all of her abilities to help her country too. I just really enjoyed this book. I am now recommending it to all of my friends!
I swear, how do I keep missing that there's new posts here?
If I only had a brain is my new theme song.
I could re-read Dark Prince, although it wasn't very bdsmy at all. Good book, though. I recently read a very short story by ... Rosa Steel (had to look it up). It was okay, I don't know if I'd call it bdsm, but it was definately kink. It was called captive.
Honestly, I'm always reluctant to read her stuff, and I always enjoy the book in the end. I don't know if I agree that her books are bdsm, although they have moments when they are, because I feel she has quite a bit of power in her relationships, but she's definitely a pain slut and the plot lines are good and keep you engaged.
Oh yeah. She's a big pain slut. Bigger than me by a lot. LOL
Thanks for hanging with us Ditto79!
I like the idea of an auction. I've written about that myself. Sounds interesting.
It's a major recurring fantasy, for sure. There are places where you can almost replicate the experience, mostly for a weekend, at best. We all of us, unfortunately, have to go back to work on Mondays.Ladies: I've only posted once. A newbie ... but I just returned from vacation and picked a book from Amazon -- it was slated as BDSM. It's title is Auctioned Off by Leigh Tierney.
It was a little graphic, about an 18 year looking for a way to pay her tuition to Stanford by selling her virginity. The treatment by the buyer was rough, and the other characters left something to be desired. Yet I liked the young lady who was trying to get ahead in the world with only her wits and willing to accept the pain and humiliation to get there.
There was a second book (I was in Alaska and not a lot to do at night . . .) it was Auctioned Off II: Another Date With the Doctor.
I almost wonder if there are really places like this where girls feel the need to surrender their bodies and submit to the sexual play that they were never aware of.
It's different for those of us who may enjoy some of the lifestyle. I'm learning and am enjoying looking in while I get brave enough to speak up a little more. Thank you for letting me join your book club discussion group.

In writing and reading those fantasies we get to ignore the fact that without informed consent it's not actually BDSM-- it's sex trafficking.
Anne Rice did a pretty good job walking that tightrope, in her book "Exit From Eden."
I, too, enjoy Claire Thompson's books. My favorite is Slave Castle with Marissa fighting submission and trainer Aaron determined to break her spirit.
I really really enjoyed the Wicked Lovers series by Shayla Black and Surender To Me has to be my favorite part. The only thing that I'd say I didn't like about the books was the repetitive theme with the ''Stalker'' type of characters who wanted to kill the main characters. I mean it was fun for the first two books but then it was like *yawn* she'll be saved anyway.
But my favorite BDSM author has to be Claire Thompson. I don't know what it is but I love all of her books. Especially the more hardcore ones like Slave Island, Enslaved or Toy. I also enjoy her M/M BDSM novels. My favorite so far has been Sub For Hire.
