The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

Sorry, Fury!! I'm just seeing this now. I did read it. I'll fill out the form tomorrow!!

Slave by Cheryl Brooks

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes. I really enjoyed the book. It was a thoroughly fun, escapist fantasy. Absolutely worth a read, maybe not a re-read, but worth a read.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I did. I really liked the twist-- that it wasn't women who were slaves, although it might appear that way. Appearances were deceiving. That was fun.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

The sex scenes were good, but since Cat has a magic penis... I about died on the whole blowjob, cum in the mouth and instant orgasms thing. I mean, I really love to give blowjobs as it is...

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

Yes. It actually had a plot, conflict, etc. It was well crafted. The characters were believable. Some of the turns of phrase had me laughing so hard that ddh actually asked me what was up.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes. I would be... I might have to hunt down the next one in the series. :D

What did you like best about this selection?

The humor, the sci-fi genre, and the plot-twists.

What did you like the least?

Absolutely nothing... I really genuinely liked it. It's campy, and fun.

How would you have changed the story?

No changes...

Is this thread open to anyone? I noticed that only the three of you (ditto79, FurryFury and Red Sonja) have posted here recently. If it's open, I'd be very interested in reading the next selection. Thanks so much.

Slave by Cheryl Brooks 3.75/5

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes. I enjoyed this book. I like a sci fi fantasy at times.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I don't recall much if any, BDSM in the book. Not sure why it was on our list exactly other than the title.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

The sex scenes did little to nothing for me. I would have liked the cat to have a spike on his very interesting penis too but they were just okay for me. Maybe I'm getting too used to sex scenes in general these days?

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

Yes. I really like some of the characters and the general storyline pretty well.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes. I like how it's progressed though I'm not craving the next book like a drug or anything. The BEST books do that to me. LOL

What did you like best about this selection?

The sci fi vibe, the character of Cat and Jack.

What did you like the least?

In this book, I was really pissed that he "let" his "slave" be used by others in public. The nose fucking wasn't good for me either.

How would you have changed the story?

Other than the above I wouldn't have, except make it a little less romance-y. One way that would work for me would be to have an reasonable or even unreasonable explanation for why each of the characters were THE ONE for each other. If you are going to have them so into each other that it is practically supernatural or whatever I want a reason way.

Okay... yes, I forgot about the nose fucking. What was up with that? So creepy!!

On the other note, I thought it was a supernatural thing... sort of the attachment action taken by that one weird alien thingie. A gift he gave them...?? But maybe I read that wrong.

Agreed on the nose fucking.

The whole we are each others ONE and only possible love match thing is a pet peeve. Even if there is a supernatural explanation for it, I want it stated clearly what that explanation is.

I can understand that... and it was not made explicitly clear that it was supernatural. Plus, looking back, it seems there were some hints that it was because it was *them* that the whole supernatural attachment thing was possible.

I'll start the discussion on December's book . . .

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes, I liked the book. I wasn’t sure I would when it started out as a science fiction-type setting. Futuristic sci-fi isn’t my preferred reading. But, the pony play resembled “Carrie’s Story” and the “Sleeping Beauty” series, which I also enjoyed reading. I took the story to say that the women who made it to Henth were totally happy with their lot in life. While they were definitely used and abused, their respective backgrounds had them craving the treatment.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I feel it does portray BDSM … in an extreme way. I enjoyed how detailed the book was in many of the scenes. The book wouldn’t be for everyone’s taste; but, it worked for me.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

I did enjoy them. Maybe not so much the orgies or all the pony play, but I definitely felt the fictional story. I wanted to read a story with TPE. This one fit the bill for me. Etrin believed herself to be a full-fledged submissive and did everything she could to put herself in the environment where she would be owned, controlled and used. Garid wanted to own a female for his own pleasure and he got a little more than he was looking for by the end of the story.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I thought the story was well written. I’m not usually into “other galaxy fantasies”, but this one kept my interest. I found it to have a touch of romance (which I enjoy) where Garid believes at the end that he loves his pet. But, I feel the focus of the story was on the “relationship” the two main characters had with each other throughout the telling of the story.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes, I will probably look into other Jacob books.

What did you like best about this selection?

I enjoyed the hardcore BDSM. The book was very long; but, I enjoyed the 100% consent of the women (consensual non-consent). Nothing was truly “taken from them”. They chose to put themselves on this planet by breaking the rules on their own – they could have made another choice. They chose Henth, knowing that they would be owned sexual pets/slaves. The story grew and kept my interest.

What did you like the least?

Some of the torture was extreme and the pet/pony play was just ok for me … but, I still wanted to read on and see if Etrin could be totally controlled – gave TPE, instead of her accomplishing her goal of being owned and used to her sexual gratification.

How would you have changed the story?

I enjoyed the book and the sadism involved. It’s fiction and was well written. The punishments, humiliation and orgasm denial was very detailed; but, I enjoyed reading it and had no problem with the torture and abuse, since it was consensual non-consent.

Thanks for starting us off Ditto79.

I didn't read this one because I didn't feel I could afford a new book. I'm so glad to see you post about it.

Also, we need a new book for January 2013 ASAP! Anyone have a comment on that?

The nominations so far are:

1.) Obsession : an erotic tale by Vanderbilt, Gloria

Publisher Summary 2 New York social maven Priscilla Bingham discovers a hidden cache of letters that reveal her late husband's affair with a sophisticated dominatrix who has recorded the intimate details of their relationship, a finding with which Priscilla becomes increasingly obsessed. Publisher Summary 3
The marriages of desire . . .

From the multitalented and versatile Gloria Vanderbilt comes a passionate, sensual, witty, and puzzling tale of erotic obsession, beauty, and revenge, told in tandem by two women obsessed with the same man—and, ultimately, with each other.

Talbot Bingham is a renowned architectural genius who, with his formidable wife, Priscilla, creates an architectural community. When he dies unexpectedly in the middle of their tenth wedding anniversary celebration, the devastated Priscilla is left keeper of the flame of Talbot's genius. Going through her husband's archives, she comes unexpectedly upon a pile of neatly tied letters, and the shocking secret of her husband's intimate life—a discovery that shatters the foundation of her soul and spirit.

Obsession explores the mysteries of the human heart and the nature of sexuality and obsession, provoking questions about whom we choose to love, and why. The reader is left to decide if the other woman represents another facet of Priscilla, or if Priscilla her-self has invented the other woman who completed the world her husband so recently inhabited?

5.) Menage by Emma Holly

Bookstore owner Kate comes home from work one day to find her two flatmates in bed...together. Joe - a sensitive composer - is mortified. Sean - an irrepressible bad boy - asks her to join in. Kate's been fantasising about her hunky new houseshares since they moved in, but she was convinced they were both gay.

Realising that pleasure is a multi-faceted thing, she sets her cares aside and embarks on a menage a trois with the wild duo. Kate wants nothing more than to keep both her admirers happy, but inevitably things become complicated, especially at work.

Kate has told her colleagues that Joe and Sean are gay but the gossip begins when she's caught in a clinch with one of them in her lunch hour! To add to this, one of Kate's more conservative suitors is showing interest again, but she's hooked on the different kind of loving that she enjoys with her boys - even though she knows it cannot last. Or can it?

3.) Symphony of C, Vol I and Symphony of C, Vol II by Cara Mitchell ebook format

From author's web site:

Following the ebbs and flows of longing warring with jubilation, Cara relives the fury of the battle between her intrinsic nature and the teachings of modern society in her quest to fulfill her yearning to yield control to another. Trained by the mysteriously exclusive ranks of high protocol dominants, she endeavours to be moulded into a gracefully captivated being.

Will her journey through intense bliss and wrenching turmoil in order to fulfill her need to obey destroy or lead to unparalleled freedom?

4.) Surrender to Fire by Lora Leigh

SurrenderBook 1 in the Bound Hearts seriesCole has wanted Tess for years. And he's warned her of this several times. He's also warned her HOW he wants her. Tied down in his bed, under his domination, surrendering to his desires. . . Fyre Brand She holds the elemental power of fire within her grasp, able to sear, to destroy. But her heart holds the fear of repeating her ancestors' mistakes. Now, amid a world fighting to rebuild, Carmella must learn that she cannot control the power surging through her fragile body alone. She'll need help. But can she accept the future her leader Torren has seen, and the touch of a stranger who is more than he seems? Publisher's Note: Previously available in the Elemental Desires anthology.

By G. Crider "loves to read" I purchased because of Surrender,(#1 of Heart Bounds Series). Not much of a story but the sex is super hot. It's Cole & Tess's story. Fyre Brand is a paranormal, full of good raunchy sex. If you are looking for more from this book don't. Just a good naughty read and a few fun ideas.

5.) The Dom's Dungeon by Cherise Sinclair

Foster child. Teenage whore. Now a veterinarian, MacKensie's turned her life around, but the scars remain. She saves her affection for the animals who never judge or scorn her, but it's time to get out, move on from her past in Iowa. So, she arranges a vacation exchange to job hunt in Seattle.

Although the house is lovely, one room is locked. Her years in foster care have given her two 'gifts': a neurosis about locked doors and the ability to open them. After she gets into the room, she's appalled...and intrigued. Chains and manacles, whips and paddles, odd benches with straps...

When Alex returns home days early and finds MacKensie draped over the spanking bench in his locked dungeon, he's furious. But her wariness arouses his protective nature and curiosity, so he strikes a deal to keep her close--she'll act as his submissive in exchange for a place to stay and help finding a job.

He'd planned to use the veterinarian to deter an ex-girlfriend, not replace her, but with MacKensie's compelling mixture of strength and vulnerability, the little sub slides right into his well-defended heart.

By Fan

I have read all of Cherise Sinclair's books and have to say, as much as I love the Shadowlands series, this is probably my favorite of all of hers....It was all about the mental aspects of BDSM and the learning and communicating and I thought it was a perfect introduction too to some of her other books. If you are interested and want to "try" one out, this is a great book for that, but I also just loved it regardless!

6.) Eager to Please by Kim Corum

Eager to Please, a new BDSM lite novel from Kim Corum. Here I am, take me, use me. Do whatever you like. When Kara, the wife of a wealthy businessman, is kidnapped, the last thing she expects is to feel sympathy for her captor. As her time in confinement extends, she finds herself involved sexually and playing games of submission and dominance. As each day passes, she slowly begins to fall in love and loses the homesickness she initially felt. Oddly enough, the only person she misses is her butler.

By Sydney

I am probably biased towards this book, given the fact that the whole "falling in love with kidnapper" scenario has long been one of my personal favorite sexual fantasies! I was aware that this was the plot line before I purchased the book, so I was extremely excited to start reading it. And it definitely did not disappoint.

Happy New Year!!

Long, loooong time no post, but was happy to see the thread pop up when I checked in and had some comments to offer:

Menage is an excellent book - one of my faves, but I actually came to recommend Cherise Sinclair in case people hadn't heard of her. I've read (I think) her entire series of books and she consistently delivers for me. I'm anxiously awaiting her next release --- or what I hope will be her next release.

Why do I like her? The comments Furry posted from "The Fan" ring true for me as well. The sex is hot, but the mental and emotional aspects of the characters and their relationships are also incredibly satisfying. These are good stories and intersting people, not just or only well-written BDSM porn.

Uh....so, that's my two cents.

Bridgeburner

Awesome to see you. I'll count that as a vote for Sinclair!

Dear Book Club,

I feel kind of like having won the jackpot when stumbling upon this tread. :D Feels so much like candy store! Lol. How come I never read this before?!

What I would like to ask is, what are good places to purchase some of these books from, either online or any stores that are available also internationally? Do BDSM themed books come usually also in hardcopy/paperback or is it mostly only e-book format? Is the BDSM mostly male dominant - female submissive in the books you have read so far, or are there any good female dominant - male submissive books that you could also recommend?

I terms of voting for January's read, I have no experience with this genre outside of Lit so would be happy to experiment with what you propose. :)

Happy reading!

Morning . . . I'll give Sinclair a vote also. I read previews a few months ago on this book and thought about purchasing it.

As for the question from missbliss3678, I've found the books we've been reading recently through Amazon.com ... many times for $2 and $3 (with shipping around $5). When I search for the books, I go to "used" and they've been shipped to me very quickly and in excellent condition. They are also available via ebook.

In my short time with the with the Book Club Discussion thread, I've enjoyed books I would never have purchased or read prior. Love this thread.

Welcome Missbliss3678,

I buy, when I buy, which is rarely through Amazon, Booksamillion or Barnes and Noble. There are probably better places for BDSM books like Ellora's Cave and all but that's where my gift certificates come from and I'm a frugal girl.

@Ditto79

Okay two votes is good enough for me.

Glad too that you have given us a vote for Obsession. I'll give it a day or two more to see if anyone else wants to chime in and we will go with it.

Now here are my thoughts on The Dom's Dungeon by Cherise Sinclair 3/5

Did you like the book overall or not?

I enjoyed this book at times. Other times I felt tired of some of the cliches in the book. Overall it was one of the better BDSM books, I've read.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Somewhat my way, positive and real, at times, but also in many ways not so much, more on that later.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

The sex scenes in the book were pretty decent. Some turned me on but the D/s turned me on the most. However, the total absence of any talk of sexual safety really bothered me. No condoms were ever mentioned, and absolutely no talk about disease or anything, that really rankled at me.

Also, I've never been at a club or party at which sex actually took place, or even genital to genital, or mouth to genital contact happened. That really bothered me too.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I liked parts of it. I liked the lead character and her journey.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Perhaps

What did you like best about this selection?

The way the sub was able to work out her issues with the dom. It was a very white knight, romance, fantasy BDSM book.

What did you like the least?

I didn't like how things kept happening "before she knew it" and it was always out of her control. Someone who has fought so hard to survive and have control wouldn't allow that, IMO. I hope not. I wouldn't allow it to happen without my knowing it, I'd know and either consent or not before it was "too late." It was a bit too magical in that way.

The continuous statements like, "A dom could no more over look that than a doctor." Sorry. No. Not every dom is that in tune to every sub and they are so NOT doctors, only servicing subs, like this tending to indicate. They are flawed human beings like anyone else. Sometimes they are selfish, wrong and just don't notice some things but as a fantasy I can see where that might be a turn on.

I did not like the sharing of subs at the parties. I particularly did not like the, "let's push this sub for her own damn good bullshit."

I did not like that except for two characters, everyone was really good looking and the doms were all rich.

I did not like how he constantly called her "little", "pet" and "cat." The sort of diminution and objectification might be great with the right person and after TRUST already earned, but just in general, first met usage, no. That rankles me as well.

How would you have changed the story?

If the points I made were addressed it would be a 5/5 for me.

The Doms Dungeon Review

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes. I enjoyed the book. But then, I enjoy the author and her other offerings.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I don't have a vast knowledge of BDSM. From the short time I've enjoyed the environment, I feel that the book portrayed the lifestyle in a positive way. The Doms treatment of his newly discovered sub was fun and not violent. To my way of thinking and reading enjoyment, it was fiction and was an enjoyable read for my taste (not all violence and sadism).

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

The sex scenes between the two main characters did get my pulse going. I agree with FurryFury about the "taking and sharing" in the club. I've never been in an environment where BDSM is practiced. If I were, I wouldn't appreciate that type of activity. But, maybe others do. I would have to speak up and safeword should a Dom attempt that with me.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I enjoyed the interaction between the two characters. I enjoyed knowing that tit for tat punishment occurred for the ex-sub. Evil got what evil deserved. Having a character go from a bad past life and make something of herself later was a good read for me.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

I will continue picking and choosing her stories to read.

What did you like best about this selection?

I think I enjoyed reading the about the early introduction to BDSM and how the main characters progressed into a workable D/s relationship. It worked for them and gave me a "happy ending".

What did you like the least?

While I didn't always agree or wish to experience everything in the story, I didn't dislike anything.

How would you have changed the story? I read it too fast. I wish it had been longer. I would purchase a read a continuation of the book.

Great write up, thanks for reading along and posting. So glad you enjoyed the book. I know many people who really enjoy this author's books.
