The Crafting Thread - Show Us What You've Made!

I royally fucked up my second sock just now and I don’t know if it can be salvaged or how to salvage it if it’s possible.

So now I have to wait until next Thursday when my friend returns from holiday and can help me continue sock #1 and hopefully help me fix sock #2. 🤞🤞🤞😬😬😬

No photo of it, but I am trying to get the family 1964 Chevy pickup back on the road. It was bought new by my dad's aunt and uncle. My dad bought it from them and now I have it. I hope that before the coming summer is over I will be driving it.
I just was given a rather forlorn sewing machine. They were throwing the machine and were just keeping the base for a hall table. they said it was all rusted up and it was just junk. 15 minutes after I got home, I had it turning smoothly. Now I just have to learn how to use it. Yes, I enjoy playing with machines.
Pics!

That's awesome! You should definitely learn how to use the sewing machine, just like I need to get off my butt and learn to use mine! Also, I second the request for pics, if you have a chance. :)

Oh, no! I hate when I make a mess of things, and I'm pretty good at doing just that. Fingers crossed that y'all can fix it!

Is that macrame? I've always been curious about it!

No, makrame I can do - at least the easier things I tried.
Youngest Miss Althea makes bracelets and things like that.

This is tatting:

My great aunt did it and I tried to learn when I was little, but you need to get the knots to move on the base thread and I couldn’t make it work, no matter how hard I tried.
Giving it another serious go, is on my someday list of things.

I like that you hold the whole project in your hands, like when you crochet - it doesnt have to be anchored to something like makrame or bobbin lace.
And it looks really cool when you do it well.

The cross was made by my great aunt as a gift for me for my Confirmation, to use as a book mark in my book of hymns.
I came across it today as I was sorting through some things.

Oh, yes, tatting is really cool! I never thought I could do it because it looks complicated, but I love the way the finished product looks.

So I've given myself what I assume is tendinitis in both the front and back of my left shoulder from lying in bed and propping on my left elbow while working/crafting (cross-stitching and crocheting). So I'm trying to rest it today, but now I'm going crazy from boredom. Send help. :ROFLMAO:

These sewing machines were sold by Montgomery Wards. Probably any age from late 1890 to 1930, just a guess. It is looking way better now with some gentle cleaning. you have to be gentle so you don't destroy the gold foil decoration. I have to do a bit more cleaning and oiling. That bullet looking thing carries the bobbin thread.

I couldn't get your link to work so I can't see the picture. Here's a link that you may find helpful in aging your machine.

OMG, this is fantastic! I am assuming this is one with a treadle, right? That's so cool!

Mine is electric--from sometime in the 70s, I think--and instead of a foot pedal to control it, it has a thing you push with your knee. I can control that wayyyyyy better than I can the foot pedal, so I'm glad it's a little different in that regard. :)

I love to create but haven't "mastered" any process. I knit (dishcloths only because I don't read patterns), quilt, basket weave, and stained glass. Recently I have tried jewelry making creating Morse code bracelets. My newest obsession is creating a necklace pretty enough that I can wear to work that has nipple clamps attached. I also garden, play with my flowers (roses and peonies) and love to bake. I truly believe I was born in the wrong era.

You don't have to master your craft, though I'm sure you must know that. So long as it brings you joy somehow? I'd love to see some samples if you are okay with sharing. 🙂

Morse code bracelets

That is a great idea!

They play a big part in my garden too.
I never thought I’d enjoy gardening. When we moved to a house with garden I was very hesitant at first because of that and had made clear that this would probably have to be his project mostly, but it turned out I had more to learn about myself.

I’ve wanted to learn tatting but never have really followed through.
I finally looked up if tatting is what I thought it might be. And yes it is! I also have an aunt who used to do it, and as a kid I wanted to learn it so badly without even knowing what it was, simply by having heard my aunt talk about it.

Tatting has many different names, but one of the names, the one that my aunt used, has the same word as a space shuttle. I was certain it’d be something cool because of that and wanted to do it myself. Imagine my disappointment when there was nary a space shuttle or an alien in sight when she did her thing.

Needless to say, I’ve never tried tatting myself. The fascination dwindled fast when I saw what it was in reality. Can’t a girl just get a space shuttle?

Well, it probably does seem a bit underwhelming when compared to space shuttles and aliens.

If you can make things like this though:

I mean, that is a female Ent right, or am I the only one who sees the leg with the high heel?

Can’t a girl just get a space shuttle?

It seems like a totally reasonable request to me.

I see a tree that was pruned rather crudely a few growing Seasons back.

Heyyyyyyyy! Welcome to the thread!

Quilting is one of those things I would love to get into, but I'm not sure how. Basket weave and stained glass also sound really cool.

My best friend makes polymer clay jewelry, and I am in awe of anyone who can do jewelry. That is one thing I have no talent for at all.

And yay for gardening and baking! As I mentioned earlier, I'm interested in getting into a little gardening. And I really like to bake, although I rarely do it anymore because I shouldn't eat it all by my diabetic self and don't have that many people to share with, lol.

I’ve managed to un-screw-up the sock I thought I had messed up royally. Turned out I had done the right things but I had somehow twisted two of the stitches and it looked scary. But it just looked scary, in reality it was very easy to fix when my friend was telling me what to do.

A reminder, this is my first knitting project, I’ve only just learned to knit. That explains why the socks-to-be look quite different… But I’ve learned so much! The one on the left is my second sock and it already looks so much better than the first sock on the right!

Those are looking great, seela! I'm glad you were able to fix the one and continue working on it.
