The Crafting Thread - Show Us What You've Made!

Hi all!
I love seeing what everyone is making.
I've done cross-stitch all my life. I finally made myself a Christmas stocking after not having one for 26 years. I made one for everyone else, but me lol.
Now I'm dabbling in chainmail. I tried it a while ago, but it's so much easier now that there are youtube tutorials.
And, whoever said that they were born at the wrong time, I feel the same way. Baking (not cooking), sewing, all that 'old fashioned' stuff, I love.
Anyway, these are 2 of my attempts at chainmail. The long piece is supposed to be a tighter weave, but it was practice and I kinda like it like that. It might make a nice necklace, maybe a choker collar.

These are really pretty! Nice to see you here. :cattail:

And about being born at the wrong time, maybe you were just born in the wrong place. Here baking, cooking, crafts and generally making things by yourself rather than buying everything ready made is common and not considered old time-y. Like I’ve mentioned before, I decided to learn to knit and crochet because I got tired of people being astonished that I didn’t know how. 😁

Oh, this is so cool! I hope if/when you make anything else out of chainmail, you'll share that with us, too, because I've definitely enjoyed seeing this. Great job!

Iris in project mode:
The power tools are out and the dining room table is getting refinished.

As any project manager will tell you - it will either take more time or cost more money, probably both.
Time plan actually held, because I overestimated the needed drying time. The geriatric sander died on me mid job, so I had to go buy a new one and if we put that on the project budget, it’s shot.
We could put it on the tool budget, but considering the amount of power tools Mr Althea (and ok, me too) found that use the same battery pack, I’d go with budget shot, either way sooner or later.

I’m really happy with the result anyway.

I'm glad I stumbled in here to find some fellow crafters! I crochet. This is my most recent custom piece I've done.

Oh, that's beautiful! Thank you so much for posting it here. I've crocheted a number of things, but I've never done a shawl before. I love that one!

Yay, you did so good, Iris! I love it!

This is cool! Makes me want to pick up crocheting again. Welcome to the thread! ☺️

Nice to see different kinds of projects here. It looks brand new! Power tools are fun and definitely my comfort zone unlike knitting. ☺️

Thank you!💕
Yes, I hope it will stand up to everyday wear and tear for a lot of years to come.

I was very wary of hand held power tools when I was younger. The floor mounted monsters in shop class at school were fun, but the hand held kind is generally made for a very different size hands than mine.
I avoided them as far as possible until we were assembling a row of four Pax wardrobes including sets of drawers, Mr Althea with the electric screwdriver and me with the hand powered one and my wrists almost killed me the day after. He then took me shopping for a machine with smaller grip and since then we have tried to buy power tools that work for me too, when possible.
The new sander was a bit borderline but still ok.

I continued with the sock project yesterday after a pretty long break. Now my fingers are aching again. I’ve managed to make the heel and from now on the rest should be easy, so I hear anyways. Both socks are in the same stage, because I don’t want to end up in a situation where I finish one sock and decide I don’t ever want to knit again.

I also went to look at yarns for my blanket project and I picked the colors. The green yarn I originally wanted is apparently forever nixed or something, or at least there’s no information about when it might be in stock again. I decided to go for a different color scheme and I’m pretty happy with it. ☺️

Now I have to do some math to figure out how much of each color I need. Knitting and crocheting involve a lot more math and counting than I ever imagined.

Yay, socks! You are definitely on the downhill part now. The heel is the most annoying.

I can't do math well enough to figure out anything that involves an equation. I tried to crowdsource it once on Facebook ("If a piece is 4 inches long with a 3.5 mm hook, how big of a hook do I need for it to be 6 inches long?" or whatever), but none of my friends could figure it out, either. :ROFLMAO:
It looks great! The counting is the worst but unfortunately very necessary. I've learned a great deal of patience through crochet.

Lord, yes. Same here!

I build two handed fly rods.View attachment 2216726

Oh, that's awesome! Thank you for showing us. It's always nice to see a different type of craft!
This is a wall hanging that I crocheted and assembled. It hangs in my office. I'm working on another at the moment for a friend that will incorporate feathers made of yarn... Something I've never done, but according to the tutorials I've seen they don't look terribly difficult.

This looks really cool! I've seen them done before, but I've never tried it. This one looks great, and I'm sure the other one will, too!

I make walking sticks. One piece of wood, carved, scales burned in, then painted and stained.

I love these! I can't imagine being able to do such lovely work with wood!
I read this this morning and thought of this thread. Strings and knots...

This is another one of those things I'd like to try, but keep talking myself out of because I do not need another craft.

I am fascinated with the chainmail! I do some jewelry making, perhaps I will have to venture that direction as well. Thanks for the inspiration!

So many different crafts. I love and want to try them all! I need a cheaper hobby and maybe one that doesn't make me go blind lol.
These are what I've worked on recently. The one on the right is my favorite weave. It took me 3 tries to get the right size rings for it to work. Then, after starting with all silver, I changed to gold for the large rings and silver for the small. Now, if only I could complete an entire piece instead of jumping from one thing to another.
The last image is my cross-stitch Christmas stocking that I finally made last year (after making everyone else one).

Thank you! What do you usually use for your jewelry? I was doing beadwork and recently switched over to the chainmail. If only I could figure out a way to use both and maybe finish a project.

So you're one of those creative people. I'm good at following a pattern. Not so good at creating original pieces.
