The Darkness

Well, I take all that on board. I was offended by your last post because it was abrupt with no effort at politeness. Also because you inferred that I could not have 'been there' which I thought was presumptious and patronizing.

That said, I do enjoy your posts most of the time and I have no desire to fall out with anybody over a few lines of text. The trouble with posting on forums is that nuance of expression can be difficult to decipher.

Agreed, and as you get to know me better perhaps, you will know I am not into making enemies, nor do I hold onto any misunderstandings etc., preferring instead to treat everyone the same. I'm pretty straight forward despite some imagining otherwise. That means that though I might disagree or agree with someone, it is not based on how I view that person or whether I see them as a close friend or not, just the topic at hand. I do not go out of my way to offend, but as you say it is not easy to always read how a person says something on a screen, and sometimes it may sound abrupt due to that or simply because I am trying to type a response quickly before going out or moving onto something else I have to do.

Of course, there are also moments when I really do think someone is talking through their hat, but on those occasions I am usually not alone though I sometimes might be the first one to say something. I can be an opinionated bitch (not meant bitch in a nasty way, just oppenly honest about what I feel/think), but it has got me to where I am in life as opposed to falling by the wayside and wandering forever lost and indecisive. :D Overall I am a little old fashioned in that I don't see a reason to resort to foul language just because I don't agree with someone, or for any reason really....it is a rarity for me to use such language and takes a mighty lot of pushing first. Fortunately I was given a gift for language in a way which doesn't limit me to using expletives to get my message across, now if only I could remember all this Dutch!! Why is it I learn and remember Spanish so much easier than Dutch?!! Could it be those whispered sweet Spanish nothings in the middle of the night act as encouragement for me to learn enough to understand and return them? :cathappy:

I do swear quite a lot but find it therapeutic - there is something channelled in saying 'oh Sh!t' that just does not dissipate at all when substituted with 'oh dear.' Having said that, I do try never to blaspheme and it strikes me as odd that 'sh!t' is really offensive while using the names of God or Jesus as expletives always goes by without comment, even among professed christians.

I can sympathise with you over learning a new language. I have (just about) conversational portuguese and the time it took me to learn it! Why is it I can remember a million useless song lyrics without trying but never anything that I'm actually trying to learn? I don't see why my brain can't just remember what I tell it to, who's the one in charge here?

LOL, well I did wake up saying one sentence perfectly last week, though I didn't remember what it meant!! Perhaps I should try playing tapes while I sleep and then I might wake up speaking fluent Dutch! :D

I know this is totally unrelated, but I think there is a disorder where somebody suddenly starts speaking a language they have never learned??? I think it is related to brain injury but I can't find it anywhere. The closest I can find is "Foreign Accent Syndrome" (sometimes called Foreign Language Syndrome) which is where somebody speaks their native language, but with a foreign accent, following a brain injury. I wish I could find that other one!
