The Isolated Blurt Thread XXXVII: You're Welcome, Fuckers

we're busy watching the tv series made of The Stand... not overly impressed right now but that happens when you've really enjoyed a book. So many bits missed out, things that were kinda important to the reasons why about certain characters. Hell, they didn't even make Harold overweight—just a skinny nerdy type. It feels dumbed down. Maybe it'll improve.

My next outdoors job is cleaning out the henhouse, putting in their fresh hay.

Oh, and last night i watched Lioness... first season. Pretty good!
the 2020 version or the 1994 version? I enjoyed the 1994 version more

this is the newer one... not sure i recall the series from 1994 but the movie was far truer to the book, at least in regards to how the characters looked. This new one? I am so not sold on the sweet innocence of Tom Cullen or the intrinsic decency of Nick Andros. I can't even say I believe the Nadine character. I really recommend everyone read the book... it's much more fulfilling with its details and cross references to a lot of King's other works.

Since it's Sunday here in Aussie land thought I'd go to church:

Given the bible was written some 400 yrs after Jesus was killed give or take a cave, the bible is a bit like Chinese whispers that starts of as "we ride horses" and ends up as "buy rice and sausages". The Republican bible is actually made in China. So like art imitating life. On the positive side since it is a Chinese bible, once you read one passage and digest it, give it an hour and you'll be hungry for more.

Agree, I wasn't that impressed with the series either, much preferred the novel.

It was a long church service, tried to leave but someone kept singing. A bit stingy on the wine as well.

Some say the bible is God's words. So is God an old testament guy or a new testament guy? And if God created everything already who is expanding the universe? I know right. Like I mean how did they get all those dinosaurs in the ark with all those other animals and none of them got eaten. Did T-Rex go vegan? Only Mike Johnson knows apparently. You know the Speaker of the House in the US. He has a direct line to God. Must have fantastic cell coverage.

The 1994 version had an amazing cast, and it was still only “alright” imho.

Haven’t seen the new version, and it sounds like I don’t want to.

😑

Indecision

You know sometimes how you can't make up your mind. Should I? Shouldn't I?

In the end you just say stuff it. I'll sleep with both of them.

Awesome! I hope this has ended the stressful part of that process. Now, it's yours and you can do whatever you want. Unless, of course, the city, state, hoa, neighborhood, police, the bank or code, says you can't. The part I hate the most, packing, moving and unpacking.. But, it was better knowing it would probably be the last time I had to do that. I'd rather stay in this house, until I'm dead, than go through that one more time.

Seriously, congratulations!
Thanks.
Nope new stresses. I have no clue of we have enough room or where we are gonna put shit.
No hoa that I know.
Yeah packing. I've moved most of my toy bins put and I still have like 10 curios to pack of toys. Plus the rest of the house.

well, i always think it's worth checking something out for yourself: there've been plenty of films that critics panned or other people i know didn't enjoy but i did; just depends on what we're looking for in a production and what we bring to the table ourselves. we stopped watching after about 4 episodes but may go back if we're bored enough.

You might like the 1994 version. The cast was amazing. Stephen King actually appears.

👍

i may have seen it... to be honest, not too many of the transitions from book to screen have worked out well for my taste; I did appreciate Green Mile, IT (1&2), The Stand, The Shining, Carrie (original), Christine, Stand by Me, Misery Shawshank Redemption, and kinda liked Cell and Hearts in Atlantis wasn't bad.

My biggest disappointment was the treatment of The Dark Tower... it just couldn't do justice to the book. I was so excited to hear Idris Elba had been cast that it came as an even bigger disappointment.

Yeah, The Dark Tower was a bit flat, but I liked Elba, McConaughey and the kid.

What did you think of Doctor Sleep???

It was better than I expected having to follow in the footsteps of The Shining. It held its own, imho.

👍

I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*
I'm in bed today. I drank the last of my pepto and took 2 tums.

I might try to throw some laundry in this evening. I need clean shirts. I'll be ok but I can't think what caused this?

The newest incarnation if The Stand on Paramount+ I rather enjoyed. It was much closer to the novel. The other Skarsgard is quite good as Flagg. The ending is a bit flat but so is the ending of the book if you ask me and it's one of my favorite books of all time. It's the journey to get there that is so good.

I haven't watched the newest versions of It and I probably won't. That was the only horror novel that has ever actually scared me. I've read The Stand, The Shining, Needful Things, Intensity, a few others that slip my mind at the moment but It is the only one that ever got to me. Fuck clowns.

Take it easy when eating. Try crackers or toast first before chowing down. *hugs*

Hope you feel better. I would offer some chicken noodle soup, but the chicken doesn't know how to make noodles, she's French. The cock-ah-too was totally useless also, just sat on the couch watching sports.
