I'm of two minds about Big Bang Theory, after watching an episode. The one ep I saw relied on an Idiot Plot seasoned with Maintain the Lie (they were throwing a surprise party for one of the characters, and a guy who is evidently a bad liar had to find a way to keep him out for several extra hours).

So yeah, exactly the sort of sitcom comedy I tend to dislike, plus Sheldon just generally being exactly the sort of personality type I could never stand to be around...

And on the other hand...

That was not a very good episode, to be fair. It's one of those episodes that's only funny if you've been watching for awhile and are familiar with the characters. I really like the epsiode where amy and bernadette and penny have a sleepover.

Ummm, Texguy, have you been sequestered in the Antarctic since sometime prior to late September, 2007?

BBT has been one of the most popular shows on television for the past five and a half years, and the #1 comedy for the past three. Of course, coming into the series at this point can confuse one, or leave one not understanding various story arcs and relationships; I recommend you set your DVR to record dozens and dozens of rerun episodes on TBS (not HD, unless you have your own hard drive hooked up) and try to catch up on the story.

BTW, this past Thursday evening, BBT even whipped American Idol's season finale in the ratings... the first time that's happened, ever.

It's ok. I HATE THIS SHOW. It's just watching a guy with severe Aspergers, annoying as hell when you've dealt with it from relatives. NOT FUNNY. Also the laugh track drives me nuts! I'm giving up any show with a laugh track.... so annoying

This is why we've not yet watched any of the current-season episodes in the last two years since we got hooked on the show. We watch via TBS, but have seen all of their episodes more than once. Now we're using Netflix to move through the later seasons. Some of the episodes are clearly better than others, but all series television suffers from that normality.

I look at the characters and I can see elements of each of the men in my own personality. I think this is one way that great ensemble cast series work so well: the characters are different enough that many viewers will identify with more than one character in some way.
 
DVR? TBS? Hah, I live in Japan. My TV can't even pick up the local TV broadcasts due to a format difference. :D

Eh, maybe I'll give the show another shot in the future. Like I said, Penny is smoking hot. It's way down the list though after Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Spartacus, and other shows that have smoking hot women in them as well.
 
Just saw Star Trek Into Darkness. Great movie.

Especially loved the Samuel L. Jackson cameo at the very end.
 
Just got back from a trek convention. Missed those people fiercely while I was in Japan. It's good to be among nerds.
