The new football thread

This after the Raiders spent a ton of money on Monday. Plus the fact that Crosby now knows that the Raiders don’t want him anymore.
He kinda knew this at the end of last season when he was told to basically throw the final game so they could get first pick in the draft. He said, ā€œUm fuck that. I play football to winā€ (I’m paraphrasing) and they benched him…pretty sure the ā€œdon’t wantā€ goes both ways from that point on.

I don’t know what Crosby’s condition is but the Ravens have done this a number of times in the past. Maybe they’re just fucking with other teams. 😁

They are by far worse off because they no longer have their Center. I am not sure many understand how important that position is? They could have resigned him. People say he was asking too much. Yet ..he got it...so was it? I think the Raiders picking up Linderman is the most impactful FA move....even before Crosby deal got nixxed

My guess they did an MRI on his knee and saw far more damage than they hoped there was...and given his age...decided it wasn't worth 2 First Round picks.

This is what I said last night to husband - I mean I don’t know that there are many defensive veterans who would be worth 2 first round picks (though if the Chargers would get a line for Herbert I’d be good with it). An aging vet with a knee injury recently? Yeah he’s a great player but for how long?

I totally agree with you. Linderbaum is a huge pickup for the Raiders major loss for Baltimore.

Maxx is absolutely worth the two first round picks. He’s only 28 and if he’s fully rehabbed he’s a game changer. Hopefully the physical news is just a ploy by the Ravens to sweeten the deal.

Crosby’s doctor statement (from Adam Schefter)

ā€œMaxx Crosby is doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program….he feels very well and is already much improved compared to before surgery.

ā€œWe truly respect the work of the Ravens staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process. This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear.

ā€œAt this point, Max is doing
an excellent job attacking his rehab and his knee is responding very well. We look forward to Maxx returning to his elite level of performance this season as planned and for several more to come.ā€

Now this from Ian Rappaport:

#Bengals FA edge Trey Hendrickson, the top pass-rusher on the market, is set to sign with the #Ravens, per me and @TomPelissero.

With the Maxx Crosby trade off, Baltimore lands the top edge available

Just posted on X by Maxx. He’s got his priorities right and I’m betting he’ll be terrorizing offensive tackles for some team in the NFL this fall.

Crosby still has to get traded right? They obviously don't want him there and he doesn't want to be there either.
But the asking price has to come down, maybe a 2nd and a future pick is all I'd pay.

Report is Crosby was still on crutches last week. Now...that is totally normal for that kind of surgery...but Ravens had hoped his recovery would be much further along. Shefty also said....Ravens have explored having both Crosby and Hendrickson. I don't know what say Maxx has in being traded?

He could stay with the Raiders if they can’t find another trading partner but my guess is there were more than a few teams interested in him. Raiders are unlikely to get as sweet of an offer as Baltimore made but they’ll do fine. But it’s not out of the question that he plays in Vegas. There’s no bad blood between Maxx and the team.

There isn’t? Wasn’t he pissed last year when they benched him because he didn’t want to tank?
He was disappointed because it’s in his nature to want to be on the field no matter what, but the team made a football decision and he understood and accepted it.
