The Official Fashion Fairy Thread

Today was nearly a massive fashion disaster. I was running late, as I spent most of my morning routine time messaging an unnamed Aussie. Well, I was hurrying out the door. I realized, "I have no cuff links for my shirt!!!" Luckily I caught it and went back in. In my haste, I grabbed two different cuff links!!! Holy shit how embarrassing would that have been?!?! Luckily I caught it and I'm looking sexy as ever.

Well I just pulled on one pink shoe and one blue one. Though, it doesn't really matter because I'd make that shit work anyway.

Bwhahaha. Like you made your painted face work when you forgot your daughter paired you up like a doofus?

The Literotian Herald - dateline : today

In other First World Problem News from that fateful morning, a young boy poured milk in his bowl BEFORE the cereal, and a woman in the midwest tried to butter her bread with cold butter. Her bread ripped.

Trying to spread cold butter on bread?

Pmann, I thought you should know that Old Navy is have a sale on jean jackets. You too could be the proud owner of a jean jacket and impress the lady of your dreams for the low low bargain price of $15!

PMann is officially a party pooper.

I can't wait to see the gif Em comes up with for that. (no pressure Em)

Hello All,

I've been somewhat absent lately. But I wanted to say, all of your spring fashion questions will be answered. :D I've already been getting my linen pants and seersuckers in order for the spring season.

I hope you all have a have had a lovely winter season (or summer, for my hemispherically challenged Rainshine).

Toodles,

Pmann

Hang on... I thought we'd reached an agreement about your clothing choices.

We did. We both agreed I'm dead sexy. *opens door for joke a out how my clothes are worn by someone so old that They are nearly dead*

You've seen my last two outfits and you agree my clothes looked good.

"I wear your grandpa's clothes. I look incredible"

On second thought--I don't think my grandfather ever wore seersucker. I did see a pic of him in a boater once though but that was before he became a cop.

Ok, so sit down. This is an honest to goodness, not bust your nards, fashion question.

For the first time in my life, I have a walk-in closet (unless you count my bedroom as a kid which was not quite big enough to fit an entire child in.)

Oh great and terrible fashion fairy--I've seen the pic of your closet and it is glorious. So how does one arrange a walk in closet where there is enough room to put ALL my clothes? Plus I have a great big wardrobe I'm going to custom make via wire shelving into a sweater/folded stuff/shoe closet.

Where does one even start such a project? How does one organize ones clothing?

Minxy Potter

I know. I know. But seriously--I have no idea. I have clothing everywhere but now I have space everywhere, and I kind of want to start off on the right shirt, or skirt, or pant or whatever.

I don't have any seersucker though. Will I have to get some to follow the plan do you think?

I am sure pmann is far more qualified to arrange than me. I organise my WIR like so:

Work Clothes
- Shirts (by colour
- Pants (by colour and length)
-Skirts (by colour)

Casual Clothes
- Ts (by sleeve length)
- Cardi's (by colour)
- Jeans (by length)
- Cargo Pants

Coats
- By Colour

Fancy Clothes
- No system there

Scarves/Belts
By Colour

Then I have on the wall screwed a rack of hook things for my necklaces because I wear lots of different beads/necklaces.

With my shoes they're on shoe racks and they're usually arranged by style but I get lazy and just shove them in a space most of the time.

Where does PonyBoy hang the vest? Fancy Clothes I bet. Yes indeedy, F A N C Y!

Surely, as well, now would be a great time to work out what clothes you have but don't wear and donate or get rid of them?

How does one organize ones clothing?

Obviously, I'm not the Fashion Fairy, but I thought I'd chime in because one of the things I'm known for IRL is my organizing skills (you're surprised by that, I can tell ;)). The first thing I would say is to think about in what categories would it most ease your day to have everything organized. For example, if you work in an office environment where business wear is required, it might make more sense to have all of that type of clothing in one area, very similar to what Rainshine described WRT her closet, rather than grouped with like items.

On the other hand, it might make more sense for you to group your clothes by item type as opposed to item style : pants in one section, skirts in another. T shirts and camis on one shelf, sweaters or fleece sweatshirts on another. You get the drift. Then, if you're really OCD about organization (*whistles innocently*), you can further subdivide. For example, all of my pants are grouped together, and then further divided into denim, capris, and dress slacks. Those subcategories are then sorted by color. My blouses are organized first by color, then by sleeve length. On the other hand, my sweaters are first separated into pullovers vs cardis, then by gauge of the fabric (lighter weight knits all together as opposed to the heavier cables), and finally by color.

If you have large jewelry collection, hanging them on racks or cork boards (dolled up with a bit of paint and fabric for that boutique look) makes a lot of sense. That's what I did when I came home with 1/3 of my grandmother's extensive vintage collection (the whole thing covered a 10 ft dining room table!), after she passed last year. It's really nice to be able to see at a glance exactly what I have, rather than fishing around in the tangled, jumbled mess it would have become had I tried to store it all in the little dresser top jewelry box I have.

So really, there's no great big secret to organizing. It just takes a bit of forethought into what would make your life easier, and then putting it into place. If you need some ideas on how to organize specific items, drop me a note. At one time, I toyed with the idea of starting my own organizing business, and I've tons of ideas pinned on Pinterest.

One final note: don't try to get it all done in one day. If you go into it with that expectation, you'll end up frustrated and discouraged. Just take it a bit at a time, and it will all get done.

Surely, as well, now would be a great time to work out what clothes you have but don't wear and donate or get rid of them?

Well you would do that before you moved house so you're not carting them to a new home.

I already did that. :) I got rid of 5 contractor bags full of clothes and shoes.

Yes. My name is Minxy and I have a fashion hoarding problem.

Baila, I believe wholeheartedly that you are a fantastic organizer IRL and the advice above is fantastic.

So is Miss Rainshine's.

I think you should both come over, I will make us all dinner, dessert, and fabulous cocktails, and you two can organize my closet. :)

My 2 nieces organized my kitchen (against my will) so I keep calling them and asking where the bowls are.

I will try to respond tomorrow. But if I don't, know I am not ignoring it, but I'm sailing the high seas.

Take care of that Funny Face for me while I'm gone, Saucy. I trust you. If any guys look her way, poke their eyes with rods.

Any time Seamann. :) So many eyes, so little time! Of course, you are aware I'm the fun one right? :rose: No, no, really, we will sit here quietly crocheting doilies until you come back.

So relax, get a tan, don't spend the whole time yakking over the side, and have a ball tootse. Plus lying in a deck chair will give you plenty of time to ruminate on my closet, so it can be nearly as glorious as yours.

Aye Aye Cap'n.

Keep Teen Wolf in check. She will be tearing her clothes and throwing her shit around like a monkey with the clap. Remind her I'll be back soon and that she can wipe off her poopy face and rest easy.

And I'll be thinking long and hard (that's what she said) about that closet of yours. I'll come back rested and with some great advice.
