So. I'm doing the unthinkable: planning to enter two stories. The second one will be unconventional, and I plan to submit sometime today. It was a story that wouldn't let me rest until I started; once begun, it wouldn't let me rest until I wrote it. This no longer happens to me that often.

Here's the thing: there's no fuckscene. It's a dinner conversation between two former lovers. So while there is much reminiscence about the taste of scrotums, or the way she hung onto him while he ate her out, or the number of orgasms they both had, there's no direct sex in the story. It will end on an ambiguously uplifting note, where true love is evident.

I need some advice: romance? Or non-erotic? I've submitted to the former before, but never really the latter. Does Romance require fluid exchange, is my basic question. These two won't even kiss during the piece.

Wanted to share my experience with this. I submitted a story for the 2025 Summer Lovin' contest that had no sex, although they did kiss in the first time during that story (which lead me to submitting it in the "first time" category. In the introduction to the story, I did put a warning that the story contained no sex, so if they were looking for quick jerk material, they needed to go somewhere else. I had a few comments about the lack of sex, including one person that thought it should be in non-erotic. Apparently that person didn't understand it was a first kiss - so the first time category seemed to be a good place for it.

My story did well, and I think yours will also.

The story I mentioned as an example has received 7 votes since it was swept and rose to 4.86. Now it's at 4.75. Less than 24 hours to get beaten back from the top stories. This happens to at least half of my published works, all the ones that get high enough to be noticed.

So this is new. I mentioned this a few weeks ago in this thread, but I've never had such a determined troll. I've now lost the red H for the first time as it's been pulled down below 4.5. This story has received 2 or 3 bad votes every night for more than two weeks. I've messaged and asked for vote sweeps, but the sweeps have only pulled one vote each out of the 35ish that have dragged it down. The story was over a month old when it started, so it's pretty clear it's a troll.

Just wish I knew why someone hates it so much.

I messaged laurel and got an automatic sweep the next day but it only pulled the one vote, waited a week and asked again for a manual review, got an automatic sweep the next morning that only pulled one vote. Some trolls know what they are doing and their vandalism won’t get caught by the very simplistic sweeps. This is the voice of experience. The trolls have upped their game, the site is yet to respond.

There is a correlation between posting links on AH and getting bombed, particularly smart bombed. I wonder why .

It's hard to tell sometimes if you're getting one-bombed. My entry was rated extremely highly, then it dropped big time. I've gotten a lot of ratings though, so they could be legitimate.

If it’s any consolation, I think the 2s are more meaningful - I have a lot of those - they are unlikely to be wiped out when the votes are counted properly and the sweeps done.
