The Official Valentine’s Day Contest Support Thread 2026

Hello Beautiful Em,
I know you’ve been subject to suppression of ratings many times. I’ve never understood why some people are so insecure that they have to drag other people down to their level. But it sounds like you’ve mentally adjusted well to this reality and are keeping it in perspective.
Love,
Sey

Hey 👋

It’s foolish to give aholes power over you.

Hey 👋

It’s foolish to give aholes power over you.

Of course it’s foolish, but we all let ourselves be victimised from time to time. The trick is to limit the number of times and to minimize the impact of those times.

I’m pretty busy these days — still recovering from three weeks in Egypt, and racing to clean up the house so it doesn’t”look like too much of a pig sty when visiting-relatives descend on Monday. I hope to write you a longer missive in about 10 days via PM — if that’s OK with you.

That’s fine 😊

Rats.

I wrote the story quickly, and at the last minute changed the female characters name because I’ve got another story coming out 2/1 for Pink Orchid that I had forgotten used the same female name.

And anonymous caught me and called me out on it.

I knew I should have gone back to word and find/replace’d instead of just doing it manually.

How long do edits take to go through?

Recently? About 4 - 6 weeks.

Gonna try to squeeze out a succubus story for a second Valentine's Day entry. It'll be close. Busy weekend ahead.

And don't worry, she's a fox. A foxxubus.

...

*scrambles to add that to story*

The votes and views have drastically slowed down on my story so I think that's largely going to be it for that particular work. Final score will be ~4.11, depending on further votes. I'm a little disappointed in that; I'd really wanted somewhere in 4.2-4.4. Still, it's a short piece so not completely surprising, either. Hope everyone else is getting good feedback on theirs.

Wow. My story was approved three hours after I submitted it. Going live tonight.
3 hours.

Whose bones do you have to jump to get anything like that 🤣🤣🤣

My record is nearly three weeks for my novel and a week for the Valentine’s Day story!

I’m about the same, I’m just glad to have entered 👏 well done for submitting.

My story is well reviewed, but it really underperformed my usual contest entries in new followers, total ratings, favorites, comments, and views, which I assumed would be the case within a few days. It's not a total bomb, but I enter these contests for exposure, so it's a little underwhelming.

Now that things have settled, my takeaway is to not post to sci-fi/fantasy for a contest. My story probably would have fit equally as well in romance, and I wish I'd put it there. Live and learn. If anyone here is debating categories for a contest entry, expected category traffic is something to consider.

That said, thanks to everyone who has read it. I hope you enjoyed it!

How are your views? My sci-fi/fantasy story is doing pretty well on views. I was surprised. Maybe more people are viewing the contest entries and not bothering so much with the category?

If you keep getting such good TAT’s, some of the other less-fortunate authors might take ‘wordy’ right out of your subtitle. 🤣

Yesterday my story showed about twice as many new views as it had in the previous several days. (I check stuff like this twice a day, so there were two higher amounts.) I think this may be because the contest story list is now linked on the Categories page, which it wasn't previously. More viewing, yay!

Are you suggesting that there is a list of VD stories with the categories included? If so, I am not seeing it.

If people are just clicking on the story straight from the contest page, they won't see any categories, so depending on how your story is named, it might draw more viewers than normal. That's definitely been the case with mine, but (I think) a lot of them bail when they find out it's Non-Human, so the ratings aren't really any better or worse than normal.

But hey, more views! Maybe a couple of them are anthro-curious and they decide to plow ahead anyway. I did affirm someone's furry status for them with one of my stories. Public service champion, that's me!

Hope everyone else is getting good feedback on theirs.
The comments I've received can, for the most part, be divided roughly into 'omg this was hot' (a couple of people said it was the best or one of the best, and thanks for the kind words but respectfully, no) or 'looking forward to a part two' (there will not be one)

There were a couple more specific pieces of feedback though. One person likes that I put a lot of kissing in my stories (it seems like a semi logical progression to me) and one criticised the fact that I had my couple fall asleep while he was still inside her. (Probs a valid criticism although tbh I cribbed that from elsewhere, and feel like it evokes a specific sense of closeness.)
