The Outlook

Her hands were a little clammy as she closed the door to her little green car. She was dressed in a smart black dress that flowed nicely against her curves, she even straightened her hair for the event. Chewing on her bottom lip, she made her way up the walkway towards the entrance of the Outlook; she adjusted her glasses before she pushed the door open. It seemed quiet tonight--a bit too quiet for the outlook she remembered; she glanced around once she entered the lounge area, familiar faces roused her memory and she put names to each face. Surely, if she hadn't forgotten them, they hadn't forgotten her. She walked soundlessly and gracefully towards a couch, reverting back to her timid ways, awaiting someone to invite her over or perhaps join her.

She pulled at the tips of her hair in a nervous fashion as one of the employees posted nearby came to ask what she would like to drink.

"The usual," she said softly--then felt a little dumb, it's been over a month, they might not... She looked up to redirect the information but found the person to be gone... perhaps she was remembered after all, she grinned inwardly and pulled at the hem of her little black frock. Tonight felt like a good night, yes, indeed, a perfect night to come back.

*Something told him to come in to the Outlook tonight. An inkling, a spark of intuition, something. Upon arrival, he smiled widely. She'd been away for quite some time, and seeing her back brought a warmth to him. He came right over and plopped down next to her, seeing that same ruddy glow on her cheeks.*

Hello there. Been quite a while, eh? Nice dress, by the way.

The distinct creek of the door made her glance up, and she was glad that she did. On seeing him her heart seemed to skip a beat and that child-like goofy grin claimed her face. She had half a mind to wave at him, excitement flowed through her body. She held her breath as he made a b-line towards her, she stayed as still as she could--dreaming, she had to be dreaming, if she moved it would be over in an instant... No, not at all: as he sat down and spoke to her that familiar, gentle, acceptance washed over her; she fidgeted as he complimented her and nodded sheepishly, allowing her head to bow as she often had.

"Yes, it has been a while," she said through a shy giggle. "And thank you."

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, little details and memories flooded her mind, and she sat there for several moments enjoying a mini-reel of him. Just him. She would be lying if she didn't admit to missing him; in fact, thoughts of him often filled her mind when she wasn't worrying over the life she was dealt back home.

"How are you?" she asked, finally; she turned her head to look at him straight on and softly smiled. "How are things 'round here?"

*He took a moment to signal a staff member; he wanted a drink, something soda, but no booze tonight. He couldn't help but keep smiling as she took on that same shyness, tempered with comfort. He looked right back at her as he responded*

I'm good. Things around here? They've changed slightly, but the more things change, the more they stay the same. A few new faces, a few have disappeared. Same ol' same ol' really.

She nodded at his response.

"I'm glad you're good," she said with a shy grin.

She almost completely forgot about ordering her drink and looked at the staff member in confusion when they returned with two. She laughed at her silly mistake and took the glass, took a sip of it, then placed it down on the coffee table in front of them. She turned slightly on the couch, tucking her ankle under her knee so to face him; she rested her arm on the back of the couch out of comfort, leaning slightly into the back cushions.

"Work treating you okay?" she inquired.

Work is treating me as cruelly as before, but I never expect anything less.

So, what have you been up to while you were away?

*He took a larger drink from his own before setting it down, the three ice cubes that were his custom tinkling in the glass*

"Cruelly," she repeated, a frown formed for a moment but she let it go. "I'm sorry you're being treated badly."

She bowed her head the instant the last syllable broke his sentence.

"Soul searching, I suppose... didn't get anywhere, mind," she laughed nervously, then shrugged forlornly. "My mom's not doing too well, health wise, and my father is afraid for the worst... I always have to put on the brave face for them when really all I want to do is cry like a child..."

She shook her head.

'too much information' she thought to herself, forcing a smile onto her face and looking back up into his eyes.

"Nothing I can't handle, though..." she said softly--her voice cracked a little as though she was forcing back the need to cry. She reached for her drink and took two long gulps of it then placed it back down. Her fingertips were quite cold--one of her many tell-tale signs of being upset, she rubbed them together and rested her arm back on the back of the couch, the other in her lap. "Sorry I left without much warning... especially after...."

Her cheeks grew rosy and she giggled, bowing her head again, bashfully.

Large corporations tend to do that. I think it has a lot to do with the management. But I digress...

*He watched her speak shakily, then down more of her drink. He offered a consoling smile, placing a hand on her knee lightly*

We often go searching for our souls or searching for their depths...but we really only find them when we stop looking. I'm sorry to hear about your mother's turn of health, but you're right. You are strong enough to handle whatever may come. No worries about the abrupt exit. I've done that before, and I felt bad, but it had to be done. I say just focus on the present, and all the presents it will bring...

*He smiled and his fingers gripped slightly on her knee, a friendly gesture, but in doing so, he recalled how close they'd come before...*

Tonight there was simply a solitary figure walking the shoreline in the dark, hands shoved into front pockets of her shorts, head cast down, her hair shielding her face from the world. She needed to cry. She would, in the morning when she showered. Letting tears mingle with the fallen drops to wash away the overload down the drain. It was the only place she would. The only place she could. Alone. She felt the tension in her shoulders, at the nape of her neck, felt it along her spine.

She found little comfort in the night and of the sea, that’s how she knew she was dangerously on overload. She always flowed with both and this night, there was no flow, no continuity. She was at odds with the world she lived in. This would pass. She would endure. Sleep didn’t come well last night, so she knew it was time to turn to home and get some. Sleep was healing. Her steps quickened as her footfalls took her back.

She smiled and glanced down at his hand on her knee; her own hand that was resting in her lap slowly made its way over to the top of his, and she looked back up into his eyes.

"Thank you," she said softly. It was one of those multifaceted, heart-felt 'thank you's': for lifting her mood, for understanding, for being her company and lifting her loneliness; she smiled a little and unconsciously began to stroke his hand, from his knuckles towards the tips of his fingers. "I missed you..." she admitted, allowing her eyes to avert his shyly; her face went flush as she suppressed a small, soft giggle. "... Very much."

She sat down on the end of the pier throwing rocks into the water idly. Her mind was a thousand miles away.

*A wickedly mischievous elf comes sneaking along the pier towards the unsuspecting woman throwing rocks into the water. Quirking her head to one side, the elfin miss wonders if this foolish mortal is trying to fill in the ocean one pebble at a time. T'would be much faster business to fill it in with larger objects........like a warrioress sized object, she thinks. Grinning capriciously, she begins her stealth mode approach.

sneakin'........

sneeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaking!

Nary so much as a creaking plank announces her presence. Another few steps and someone will be getting wet.........

Don't you do it, Milady Thyri or I promise, I'm taking you with me. *grins and pauses in her pebble throwing*

It could be only Glad or Thryi and she was betting on the latter.

*The subtle motion of her fingers brought back various other memories, tactile and otherwise. He wondered idly if she had extra blood just for blushing. The thought brought a small chuckle bubbling out of his throat*

I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss you quite a bit as well.

*His hand squeezed her knee yet again, softly*

*My plans deflate in an instant with her words. I scuff my feet the last few steps, like a kid who's been found out before the fun could be had.*

Aww, Cait, how'd you know?!?!

And actually, going in together was part of the plan anyhow. It wouldn't be so bad, would it?

Noon appears suddenly behind both of them, grinning as he looks down, suddenly speaking up very loudly.

"HEY LADIES! HOW YA DOIN!?" He chuckled.

*Jumps, startled at the loud unexpected sounds, making a desperate grab for Noon's shirt to steady myself, missing my grab, falling off the end of the pier.

SPLASH!

*Get's Cait wet with the water from the splash.

Noon grins and then leans over to the water, leaning down to extend his hand out to Thyri as she bobs to the surface, ready to help her out. "That was fun." Laughs softly.

*Seeing the outstretched hand, I reach for it, slipping my smaller hand with in his. For a flickering instant, a wicked grin plays about the corners of my lips as I consider the possibility of pulling him in with me, then the emotions flicker over my face as I very quickly weigh the possible consequences, whether I would actually enjoy said consequences, how much I might enjoy them, and whether I have time to pay the penalty that would be surely levied against me by the Rogue. The moment that it takes to consider all of this seems like it is frozen in time.

runs up behind Noon and pushes him in!!!

It happened all at once...

before she could explain to Thryi, Noon spoke rather abruptly startling her and sent Thryi into the water, which in turn splashed Cait, getting her wet. Zy came along and pushed Noon in and in return.... she pushed Zy into the water and she was the last one standing, grinning widely!

Noon, caught off-guard (though, really, he shouldn't have been) falls in headfirst into the water.

*And then the moment resolves as his body comes tumbling down towards me. I wince and close my eyes to weather the resulting splash that soaks me as he hits the water nearby, and then I'm laughing as he breaks the surface again, looking nearly drowned in his cloths. Once again, I find an advantage of Mistress keeping me naked.
