I've never thought of going down on a guy as being submissive. Even if I'm looking up at him making yum yum noises, it's pretty clear who's in charge. But I don't allow face-fucking types of blow jobs. I guess the reverse equivalent would be face-sitting. If a woman is sitting on a guy's face grinding into him then maybe he's feeling submissive to her.

Oral has controling undertones but that is more of a mindset (can go either way)
If oral (either person) includes face pounding, all control is lost (imo)...
I really don't think normal oral makes the reciever submissive (unless restrained - which is another subject)

I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because (well, I'm told - what do i know I married the second woman I had sex with!) that a lot of women won't let a man do it for them unless they feel totally comfortable with them. So it's like a confirmation of trust in a man to let them do it....

Absolutely the case with me. Generally speaking getting eaten out nearly always feels physically good. But to be able to completely surrender to another requires a level of emotional trust and intimacy, which takes time to build.

Surrender, to my way of thinking anyway, has both submission and command components -- I'm the one in control of who I allow into my body and soul while simultaneously submitting myself to their will. That's a scary-wonderful position to place oneself in.

Seriously though, I kinda wonder if I'm a bit unusual in my preference for nipple attention over clit attention. The two feel directly connected though for me it's a one-way street: nipple licking/kissing/sucking arouses my clit (and more!), but not the reverse. Maybe I should start a thread ...

I basically agree with that - that stimulating my nipples seems to send bolts of electricity traveling south, but stimulating my clit doesn't seem to have much affect on my nipples. Perhaps more to the point, my nipples are more picky than my clit - as long as there's a vibe jammed up against my clit it's perfectly happy, or a dick sliding against my clit, or mentholated cream making it burn and tingle; but my nipples only like gently being brushed up and down or sucked on/flicked with a tongue.

Lucky for me I've never been with a guy that wouldn't do it. But I've also made it very clear, "you don't eat, I don't blow". As much as I love giving head, I do it to get something in return, whether it's getting eatten out or having sex. But some nights, I just don't feel like being impalled and a tounge does the job perfectly. I could never be with someone who didn't go down.
