This thread is going to the dogs...

Went by the vet and picked up my girl's ashes; a sorrowful day. I can almost hear her howling when I come home and slowtail thumping.

Thanks for this thread, Shank.

((:)heart:)))

We have a small shelf of puppy and kitty ashes. Each one a heartbreak.

I was reminded of Jimmy Stewart's poem he wrote for his dog, Beau.

Really sweet.

Daaaaaammnnn... it's just dust in my eyes, really. And heartburn in my chest.

Thank you cookie.

It's terrible except for the alternative.

I watched Sarah Silverman's newish special and she talked about the anguish of her dog dying. And then getting a puppy, but then realizing that that dog would also die, eventually. And how that was just too much to take, after what she had been through. "So I just decided to have him put down now, and get it over with. I can't stand living with that dread."

I still have my other guy, but he isn't doing too well. He's confused. He doesn't understand where his companion has gone suddenly after all these years.

So sorry for your loss DGE. Here's a little bit more light-hearted tribute to your lost puppy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxVJbAloumQ

Thank you for sharing that sly, languid piece by Norah Jones. Going on a new dog-themed playlist.

In my experience, few things are as wrenching and confusing as that decision to let a stalwart canine companion go. They evolved to watch us, and to study and respond to our intentions and moods. I suppose that's why they get inside our hearts and curl up there and doze.

I've never had a cat, and while they're different, I know it's just as difficult.

May Samwise live more and healthy years.
