Thread and writer appreciation thread

I've been enjoying Shy Housemates written by STFornicate and prettyserpentine. Haven't read the last couple of pages yet, but pages 1-3 were really good. :)

Trucken, thank you so much for the praise. It's very much appreciated. I'm just glad people are enjoying the thread. It's one of my favourite current ones. I hope it keeps drawing you in! :rose:

Thank you very much! Both of you. I am lucky enough to have a very inspiring co-writer!

That she is. :)

Aww, you guys are too sweet! Thanks so much, but I wouldn't be anything without my fantastic partners.

Bunhead and the Bad Boy
by ArcticAvenue & SweetAsSuga ~ Admittedly when I saw the title, all I could think of and hear is Avril Lavigne's Sk8ter Boi song. It kinda fits! The story is about a ballerina and a skater boy and the unlikely mix of their two vastly different worlds.

I'm so glad to hear people are reading our thread! It's definitely one of my favorites that I'm writing and I couldn't ask for a better partner than Arctic. Thanks for the shout out!

First lounge post ever!

I hope this comes as a shock to those of you that know me, but for the first time since I joined on lit, I am delving into the lounge!

I want to start things off by saying that, for the longest time, I didn't even know this thread existed. That being said, I want to thank you all for your compliments, and yes, even you Veroe!

I have always tried to do my very best in every thread and with every partner I've had, and that still hasn't changed.

Again, thank you all!

That being said, and though I know this isn't the right place to say this, I am going to say it anyway. I find myself desiring to add another thread to my plate. I find myself without specific ideas for what and with who, but if anybody here is interested, feel free to message me. I love to brainstorm, collaborate with my partner, and even throw them the occasional curve ball just for fun ;)

No problem, buddy.

That is why you have so many fans of your writing here, including me. You always try your very best in your threads with all of your partners. We recognize the care you put into your posts when we read them.

I know you don't like flattery, so I'll end it there.

It is always a pleasure to know that one's work is enjoyed and appreciated, whether they voice it or not. I am glad to hear that so many people have enjoyed my hard work, and the hard work of every great writer I've had the pleasure of writing with.

You are an awesome co-writer Lucian and an amazing partner!

I for one love writing with you!

I am not one of those great writers Lucian but once upon a time when we briefly wrote together in Vassal I too enjoyed writing with you. I learned a lot from writing with someone as talented and committed as you were.

I do have to admit that I always felt that I was lacking somehow when we wrote. The experience was bittersweet for me but I would not have missed it for a single second. I miss writing with you. You pushed me to be a better writer.

You have been in our lounge a while now and it is nice to see that you have decided to finally create your own space.

Welcome:rose:

I enjoy writing with you too DM, and I am truly grateful that I got a second chance to do it after our first thread tapered off due to both of us having real life issues at the time.

And you stop it! The only reason I am able to write as well as I can, and as passionately as I do, is because of the people I write with. I feed off of them, be it their energy, personality, or raw skill.

Vassal was truly a difficult thread for me, but only because you and I demanded perfection of each other. We wanted everything to look and sound just right. There is nothing wrong with that trait, and as a writer, it's truly a good one to have.

You say that I pushed you to be a better writer, and I say that you pushed right back. I know how strongly you felt about both of your characters in that thread, and that simply added to it all! It made me feel the same way about my character, made me give everything I had, and sometimes more before I was truly happy with some of those posts.

Thank you for the warm welcome :). I hope that we manage to resurrect a couple of those threads that we started way back when.

You take care of yourself, or else!

*hugs you close and tight, giving you a shoulder to lean on*

I'll join in the chorus of those enjoying Mr. Lucians writing on here! Do keep 'em coming!

But (there has to be one, but no worries it's not related to anybody's writing!) the flattery is getting a bit much for my liking! I did read he didn't like it too? ;) But we all crave (more or less openly) positive feedback - my too! - so maybe it's says more about me, and my reaction to reading it  - so let's not dwell on my small inferiority complex at knowing someone is a better writer than myself!

Maybe I'll make it a new years resolution to name-drop a few writers on here every now and then... oh, I'll just start now! :) ... with: SortOfBeautiful - really like some of her work on here! (Keep that Quinn and Joe side thread going, please!)

In relation to this thread, I think it's always useful to revisit definitions.

Flattery is "excessive and insincere praise, given especially to further one's own interests"
whereas;
Appreciation is "recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something".

As ever on the boards, we have our own 'filter' as to what we post about whom.

True DM. Good point to raise.

This thread is dedicated to pointing out our fellow RPers that work tirelessly to do the very best writing they can, or to cooperate as best they can in the all important symbiosis between thread partners that marks a great SRP.

Too many toil in relative obscurity. Too many when looking at their own work only see the negatives-the things they wished they could've accomplished or accomplished better rather than seeing what they did accomplish in their writing and how well they accomplished that.

Writing can be a negative and lonely experience, even when writing well with a partner.

This thread is dedicated to try and change that. This thread is dedicated to what makes that one writer or team of writers awesome rather than letting them dwell on what makes them not so awesome.

I guess we all have different definitions about flattery. When I flatter someone, it's to make them feel better, not myself. Or is that appreciation, then? Ah, better to not read too much into it.

We all like appreciation and compliments, even if not everyone knows how to properly accept them. :)

Maybe I'll make it a new years resolution to name-drop a few writers on here every now and then... oh, I'll just start now! :) ... with: SortOfBeautiful - really like some of her work on here! (Keep that Quinn and Joe side thread going, please!)

We're trying, but life and the holidays have slowed things down some. Thank you though, I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's one of my favorite couples on here. :)

The holiday season seems like always a slow period here on Lit. Things will pick back up in a week or two though.

I almost never use this thread for a few reasons. Mostly because I don't read a lot of work from other writers. However I found a story that I am rather enjoying right now.

Tearing Out the Sutures with AnyOtherName and Bevatoria

It has many of the qualities I look for in a good read. Romance, a second chance at building what could have been, good character realism. You feel like as you read the character's perspective that they are real people, and not just something formulated for a story.

Bravo.

When I grow up I want to write with excellent style just like everyone on this appreciation thread. xD

Its not always about style or talent. Sometimes its just about being kind or cooperative with your cowriter.

Also I'm of the belief that even RPers who only write a line per post can or should also be appreciated in this thread if what they do is done to the best of their ability.

I told my old English teacher once that George Lucas (this was before the prequels) and Stan Lee should be uttered in the same breath as Tolstoy, Hemmingway, or Shakespeare. The appreciation of excellence should always be above the considerations of class or caste or genre.

Sorry to pick on what you posted Wolfias. I heartily agree with sentiment you expressed, but it triggered something I felt needed to be said.

Thanks, FD. I appreciate your kind words and sentiments. AnyOtherName is a terrific partner and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes with her.

I'm reading that one as well. :)

Woohoo!

I'll warn you - I'm not saying it's for everyone. I, for one, am not exactly enamoured of what happens to her characters - they're like fine china being juggled over a concrete floor - looks and feels beautiful, but a tragedy waiting to happen and it's going to end in tears...

Read The Vardo by Alice.

Read anything by Alice.

But at least The Vardo.

Agreed! A thousand times over.
I could read her all day!

blushes and crawls under the desk

Thank you.

I'm sorry it's taken me this long to respond - it's been a rough couple of days with the little one.

I have a hard time with compliments, particularly coming from such incredible writers.

I'll just say thank you again. It's really gratifying to know that people are enjoying my messed up little fantasies.
