Tihmmnmmish's Cuddle-Friendly Fireside Threadcast

Well, welcome aboard. Here's you're lei and mai tai.

Okay, I've obviously never been on a cruise...

As for losing your soul.. that's really up to you and each of us, isn't it?

For me, it's just a fun thing to do. It's a way to practice writing, socialize with other masochists-- i mean Survivor participants, and learn new poetry forms.
I think it's the same for most people. If I was driven to win both contests, which would be absolutely insane, I could see how it could involve losing my soul-- because I would have to dedicate this year to writing as much as possible, regardless of quality, and neglect other areas of my life.

But, since my intention is to enjoy writing and learning, I'm not worried about it. If I've done that, I've been successful in the Survivor contests.

oh there's always time for masterpainting; the snowfall might have something to do with it... hey I wonder if there's something to that? Mind shifting around with the atmosphere?

Wondering how Champs poem is a Z when my list of forms only goes up to Y do you think she has a secret weapon?

uhh, don't know. Might. What would her weapon be? But if we knew it wouldn't be secret.

Z is the free choice letter

Generation Z , that's for me

Can I tell you how happy I am that there is so much chatter about WRITING!!!!??!!

Of course, other topics are totally necessary, but how cool is it...all the back and forth, combination of silly and serious (nothing called iambic can be silly) and learning and growing while playing around among such good company

sigh

life is good

okay I need to write a poem. I let a day slide, now must catch up to my own deadlines...one a day... maybe I should make it 5 a week instead

So this is where all the cool kids hang out. :)

Anna's generation Z? Oh well, I'm old. I'm generation uh R. Well really I'm generation hippie but I hasten to add I was the baby in my crowd of hippie hooligans, the baby I tell you!

The friend who was going to do it but now having computer problems was afraid to send it done in a Somerset accent I told her you would all love it!
My computer keeps freezing up grrrrrrrr took me ages to get to answer you

I may be in the market for a microphone too. My client was just recommending a software to me that turns your spoken voice into type. Now, I type fairly fast, so I never really thought it necessary. But, considering the volume of work he wants to throw my way, it might be a good idea. He said he would give me the software if I bought the microphone. I'll have to check into that.

Has anyone used that kind of software?

And, Annie, you absolutely must record something for Lit! I'd love to hear your accent.

I've used Dragon's "Naturally Speaking" with some vision impaired Vets when I volunteered at the VA Hospital. It is okay I guess, but it never REALLY works perfectly even after a lot of "training" (you need to "teach" the program with different words so that it understands what you are saying"). Even when it works right and you don't have to make a lot of manual corrections it is slower than typing (for me anyways).

Typing's a pain. Maybe someday they'll make something that you can attach to your temples or somewhere on your head so some kind of pickups send what you want written right to a typesetter. Or something. But then that would make it all too easy. Which brings back the beauty of an old manual. Okay it wouldn't really be beautiful. Except as a fantasy. The reality would be a big pain. But if typing's a pain and you have to experience pain when you type, yeah, might as well go manual. Of course if its destination is a computer and/or internet, you'd still have to retype. So, might as well just type it.

yes, I submit my work online, directly into his blogs, so I would have to type.

I may try it, since the software will be given to me.. and that's like $200 worth of software. I take it I won't be able to have my tv or movies on while I work if I do end up using it. Not sure if my daughter's cat will have to be banned from my room since she likes to try to talk to me while I work.

How sound sensitive is it, SB?

Quoting this for posterity's annals.
Several years ago I concluded (but forgot it as always, until just now), that it's all writing. really. You write with a pen or a typewriter or a camera or a guitar or a paintbrush. And you paint with a pen or a typewriter... and you make films with a pen or a... you know. Lessons from one can always be applied to the others. I think piano riffs inspired Chuck Berry's signature sound. I had a poem that concluded everything was somehow synonymous. Should find that. Of course I don't know how hairy underarms can be made synonymous with hairless, but it would only take an evening's meditation to do so.

Ain't it beautiful. Love thinking about this stuff

So, why do you think you have trouble switching gears among the creative pursuits? If I spend the afternoon painting, and then write a poem, it's just like setting down a fork to pick up a spoon.

Hey I'm not the psychologist here.

Some might call it laziness

A nickel please, and you will have your answer.

I wouldn't say it is all writing, but it is all communication....

you can communicate words with a photo or you can communicate the image with words, but it is all getting the message across.....

my favorite form of communication is speaking in tongues

Shall be rolling these saying around on my tongue, possibly most of the night, search for a way to communicate an apt response.

hmmnmm,

You might want to claim a number for Immunities for the Survivor contests before Wednesday.

Survivor Immunity Thread

It's totally up to you if you want to participate in immunities, of course. I chose to participate for immunities in the regular Survivor, but not the poetry one. The whole point of me doing the Poetry Survivor contest is to write more poetry and learn all the forms, so immunity doesn't make sense for my situation. Plus, you don't earn points for immunities in either contest. I like immunities for the Survivor contest though, since there are a few categories in which I would prefer not to write a lot of stories.

Have fun with it!
:)

damn.
it's all dark in here. looks like everyone left. what the hell? it's only 3 am EST!

oh, well. it gives me a good excuse to write some poetry...
