Underage Sexual "activity" what...

fuck off, toad.

Right. I've found that Snooper can act very childish here. And, at the same time, as superior to anything else in the room (for no reason that I can discern)--which is part of what has made this a dead letter office.

seriously, that little shit reported the posts. silly, little lapdog.

No, you aren't imagining it. LC posted that in big red font in #30 posting here. Just blowing smoke, though, I think.
Actually, it's an individual member's responsibility to report spam or any harassing PMs to Laurel; the site admin will then likely investigate and where appropriate, ban the member name from the forums.

ban the member? you're fucking high. do you have any idea how rare that is around here?

too funny.

It's too early for me to use mood altering substances, I like to have a few sober moments in my life.

I didn't say it was a usual practice to ban member names, just that the site admin has that legitimate right. Besides, very few forum users even know that reporting abusive PMs is an option so I'm guessing several pieces of crap get deleted and blocked rather than reported and banned.

My observation is closer to that of pointless. Spam gets deleted by the system. Nothing else does--even illegally posted copyrighted material, even when it's reported in keeping with the terms of use instructions to do so. The moderator of this particular forum does delete--sometimes against the rules of the Web site--but that's on her own whim, and if she hasn't followed the rules in deleting, you can just repost it until she gives up--and the Web site administrators haven't, to my knowledge, ever intervened.

Anyone know a single poster who has ever been banned? I agree, though, that the site admin has the right (and privilege) of banning anyone they want to ban--they own the site and we all post here at their sufferance.

Since the site can only ban usernames and not people wouldn't one suppose that the offensive creature/script bot/child could simply create a new profile and continue onward?

The options an harassed or stalked person has in response to the activity is to:
  1. keep record of the offensive material in a separate storage point,
  2. inform site admin and forward a copy of the message to Laurel's PM; don't forget to explain your grievance with the content,
  3. block the user from sending additional PMs to you and
  4. if the harassment targets you individually and becomes apparent that there's one person instigating it, report it to the police agency which is responsible for controlling that kind of illegal activity.

No, I don't know anyone who's been banned, although I'm sure Laurel has numbers if she cares to share them.

i actually have seen people get banned. they had to do some pretty annoying/stupid shit for it to happen, though. like openly admitting that they were underage, thread bumping to the point that they were disrupting a whole board or... really, that's about it.

BFW has gotten a few stern warnings, in place of PMs that he claimed were from others when he posted them. In both cases, the PM was replaced by the warning. Personally, I suspect that the site admins have much better things to do with their time than referee forum squabbles.

Yes, they've said as much. Just getting the daily short stories posted is a gargantuan job.

BTW; I am referring to private messages and not open forum posts. There's a difference. A person can report a post on the forum but in PMs the addressee needs to take the added steps I mentioned in post #82 on this thread.

It isn't quite as simple as that. There are other measures which can be taken. Whether Lit uses them, I know not.

There was, long ago (2002), a moderator of the AH who offended a number of people to the point that they left the site and took their stories elsewhere. (S)he was called Tiggs, and later called MasterDJs_pest and then Puppi and then posted a "goodbye I'm off for ever" thread, then returned a week later still moderating the AH as BlessedBe, so I don't know what it takes to get banned from here.

Certainly people have stories taken down when it is discovered that a particular story breaks the rules, and that the breach has been missed by the acceptance censors. Certainly when that happens all their other stories also vanish.

Yeah it was edited by me following Lit's guidelines. I"m not in the habit of spoonfeeding people about information easily accessible if you look where you should, so I won't do it for you either. The "other" website wasn't a website at all; ooops I"ve just noticed that
Code:
somewhere.com
is now a website....first time I noticed it.

Nope, don't have anything against you. I don't even know you. Feeling paranoid much? What is in your signature is allowed, advertising other websites is not; even if only to supply a reference to someone else. I don't make the rules, I simply follow them like everybody else.

'I dont make the rules,I simply follow them like everybody else."
isnt that what they said at Nuremberg?

Yes, it is. The difference is that Lady C had a choice of taking the moderator's job and obeying the rules, or disagreeing with the rules and not taking it.

In any case, I think that there is some small difference between deleting a reference to another web site, and sending people to the gas chambers.

Thank you!

I want to make a special "thank you" to pointless. Your inane ramblings and constant blithering stupidity gave me a nice laugh, and a mood boost. Just what I needed to clear my head between story writing segments!

LadyC - You have more patience than I do... it shows that you have two little ones! Keep up the good work, and know that all of us "reasonable" people know you're right :)

thanks a bunch. the opinions of alts with idiotic user names who bump threads that haven't been posted in for weeks are extremely important to me.

Why can't the characters just be 18? That's still very young! Then you don't have to worry about upsetting ANYONE. I know there are people who like that underage stuff but I know that if I came across it I'd find a different story. Well, some people say, write for readers. Others say write for yourself. I tend to agree with the latter. But then again, what do I know?

thank you, load. It's good to see there are people who appreciate what I'm doing. Nope, not doing it to be liked, loved or appreciated. I may not like all the rules but I enforce them because it's part of my moderator's "job".

that's you, isn't it? c'mon. just admit it.

Oh, for christssakes, people...
This started out as a very nice story about a group of old ladies... no, wait...
Anyways, this poo flinging has gone on and on for more than a month, isn't it time we gave it a rest?
C stop feeding his bonfire, pointless go find something else to rant about...
All the rest of us, just stop posting in this thread... the more you feed it, the more the beast will grow

i'm not ranting. this thread was dead weeks ago until some asskiss bumped it.

Yep, it wasn't Pointless--or anyone supporting anything Pointless posted--who bumped this thread long after it could have been left dead.

You do the math.

Hello again, my friend

thank you, load. It's good to see there are people who appreciate what I'm doing. Nope, not doing it to be liked, loved or appreciated. I may not like all the rules but I enforce them because it's part of my moderator's "job".

You may not be my editor anymore, but I cherish you as a friend.

Going back to the subject that started this thread, I get uneasy having any particular legal age limit. If anything, 18 is still too young for people to have sex (yes, you are permitted to chuckle). The implication in a lot of stories featuring teenagers is that they are too dumb to know any better than to have sex with some hot person or people without getting into the issues of, well, letting him (or her, or them, go right to the very core of your soul. I know these stories are recreational and they are for fun, but I haven't written anything that didn't involve the heart and soul of a person.

That said, also we ought to think about age limits on other things. You can vote at age 18 (by Constitutional amendment, no less), and can join the military, but you are still too young to buy alcohol. You know the drill. Should we make everything have a uniform minimum age and push it upwards? I'm leaning that way (from the perspective of someone who is older than the President of the United States, by a few weeks), but I'd welcome some more sober minds on this hot-button issue.
