What feeds your soul?

I just returned from joining in the celebration of my sister's graduation with a Master's degree in Psychology. She is one of my personal heroes because she returned to college at the age of 44 and graduated with honors, and has now completed her Masters. She did all this while coping with an illness that leaves her feeling very ill most of the time. I am deeply proud of her. She is a shining star, and it fills my soul that she is my sister.

:rose: :rose: to you, little sister.

I agree. And although I have never had any students, I have coached a few team sports, and I always thought that teaching skills and sportsmanship were the most important things. It's a great feeling to see a kid shine knowing you helped them get there.
Outside of a few field experiences when I was taking education courses, my teaching experience has been with college students ranging in age from 14 to 50+. I always felt so proud when I got a thank you letter or card at the end of the quarter/semester, like maybe I'd gotten through to someone. When I was pregnant, I got gifts from some of my students.

I quit coaching when it became clear to me that parents and coaches (including my assistant coaches) were more concerned with winning than playing fair. I always thought it was about the kids. Maybe I should have continued to coach. Maybe I could have made a difference in some kid's life.
You can come coach my eight-year old's soccer team. Her coach is a real cunt toward her own child.

On a bright note, though, my eight-year-old has beenn playing soccer for four seasons, and she finally scored her first goal. It's a big deal for us because she's so shy and she seldom touches the ball during a game. :)

Congratulations to your eight-year old. I can imagine that she's incredibly happy right now.

Way to go! She must be glowing!

I loved being a soccer mom, and a softball mom. Didn't love being a wrestling mom so much--that sport scares the hell out of me, plus, it's so up close and personal. I was very happy when my son found other interests.

Chicken? ;)

WFMS ~ having a student tell me the thing I feel is my weakness is the greatest gift I have to give.

I am not a crier but, that did it! :rose:

Saddling up the fastest horse i own and just letting him gallop until he stops. There is something so exhilerating about trusting another living thing to that extent. When i bring him down, my hair wind blown and us both gasping for breath .. i cant help but feel cleansed.

what word is that?

For you, I guess chicken will work?

It isn't so much what you say, but how you say it...at least that is what I have been told.

i've moved up to the $5 buy-in tables and won something like 18 bucks last night. my goal is to win enough money playing poker to pay for my tv and phone each month. :)

it's almost hard being this good. :p

:) :) :) :)

I received an envelope in the mail today, sent by a man in California. The envelope contained 4 postcards. Two were addressed to my aunt, apparently from pen pals. One was addressed to my father, one to my grandfather; both of these were from uncles serving in the military. They were all postmarked in either 1940 or 1944.

I shall add these to the few but treasured possessions I have from my father.

Many thanks to a CA stranger! :)

MrWag, I love stuff like this! :) What great heirlooms!

Where's the article, EJ? That is hilarious--on a Christian radio station? Howard couldn't have planned it better himself. :D
