What Made You Smile/Laugh Today?

Lilac laughing her ass off as she described the new movie about Edgar Allen Poe's life called 'the Raven'

I asked her if they would fully americanise it and make it into a full blown action adventure, with sex and guns and explosions. If there would perhaps be a scene with Edgar standing behind someone, gun pointed at their head shouting "Quoth the raven, motherfucka!"

You are absolutely adorable!!!! Your slave couldn't help but laugh ... not sure if you noticed ;) but you have made her smile and giggle and glow a lot today!

It was last weekend but I lost track of this picture that I snapped at the grocery store.

I scratched my head for a while and could not figure out what a vegetarian egg would be. And you should know that the 12 objects in each container were very definitely eggs.

Because vegetarians are still allowed to eat eggs? It's vegans who don't eat eggs, cheese, milk and whatnot.

Though why they'd have to state vegetarian doesn't mean much since they're the same as any other egg

Although this reminds me of the simpsons "I'm a twelfth level vegan, I don't even eat any vegetable that casts a shadow"

I came to Lit after a break...and frowned when I found certain green tinted avs still are not the photos I used to drool over. Maybe I should go away in continuing protest?

Other than that, I've been smiling because I'm still employed and things with the boyfriend are going well. I'm definitely spoiled by this man. :)

Okay, I haven't done one of these kinds of posts here in a while, so: my family is my smile for today. When I got home, I discover that my wife had found, and subsequently purchased and clothed my daughters in cat eared onesies. It is literally the cutest thing I have ever seen :)

I got a text message today! I may not be completely out of the dog house, but I think I am going to be forgiven for my sulky outburst last week.

He rolled over in bed and got on YIM to chat with me after getting my voicemail that I had "interesting things happen" and wanted to chat.

I can always count on him to listen when I need him to, and that he'll make me smile, even if just for a moment.

When I jogged for 2 minutes in the parking lot after work (which was the first time I tried running in three weeks) and my back still wasn't hurting.

Congratulations. I know what it is to have pain, especially back pain, "go away," at least for a little while.

Talked to a recruiter for an O/O today. He insists on giving me at least until Monday to think on it. Which gives me time to research.

I'm not sure how interested I am. And I would have to have a release before I could even interview, so I have to show my cards to McCoOp before I could even get a phone conversation with this O/O. Not something to take lightly.

BDSM: It’s less transgressive than you think
So says the author of a new book on white, middle-class kinksters in the San Francisco Bay Area

A young African-American woman walked onstage, led by a white man holding a leash attached to a collar around her neck. “As he spoke, he yanked up her dress to display her shaved genitals, and he then turned her around,” writes anthropologist Margot Weiss. “Still holding her dress above her waist, he smacked her ass so hard she pitched forward; the leash attached to the collar around her neck stopped her fall.”

Then the bidding began.

This scene from a BDSM “slave auction” — before a predominantly white audience – makes for one of the most viscerally challenging passages in “Techniques of Pleasure,” Weiss’ book-length investigation of San Francisco’s kink community, although there are other examples, ranging from father-daughter incest to Nazi guard-prisoner scenarios. These encounters aren’t described in much detail — instead, they’re used as passing evidence of the depths of politically incorrect play that she observed, or heard about, during the three years spent observing this world.

... he further questions S/M’s “outlaw” status by painting a portrait of a social network built on capitalism and consumerism: Just consider the rainbow’s array of classes (on everything from spanking to rope bondage) and fetish toys (from handcuffs to latex vacuum beds) that practitioners can, and are to some degree expected to, invest in. BDSM is not as transgressive as most assume, says Weiss.

As you’ve probably gathered, “Techniques of Pleasure” is a smart, but not particularly sexy, read. It’s light on kinky lingo and heavy on the academic jargon. So, I got Weiss, an assistant anthropology professor at Wesleyan University, on the phone for a more relaxed chat about the ambivalent politics of the BDSM community.

Much, much more, including an in-depth interview with Weiss, at the link in the headline above. Good reading for those interested in the BDSM culture, and how it relates to "mainstream" culture these days. (I'd think that might be... well, most of us. )
