What made you smile or laugh today? Part IV

It was okay. They played some dumb games, which I expected. Would have been better with beer, barbecue, and rock and roll.

I’m all for beer, barbecue and rock and roll!
Or perhaps beer, barbecue and blues, in the interest of alliteration for baby.
Thank you for doing the ethnological research!

I found out today that one of the people I work with had folkloristic studies as their major and did the thesis on some family event traditions. Now I want to ask about baby showers, because they've become something of a thing here, too. :)

I love how varied the backgrounds are of the people who do the same work as I do. In my previous place one there was an egyptologist and a theologist, here there's a folklorist. And of course me with my random degrees.

I think they might become a thing here too as most everything people see in US movies etc. It’s slower than with a lot of other things it seems, perhaps there is a tradition to not talk too much about pregnancies and not prep too much too early, in case it doesn’t end well. It’s part ”don’t jinx it” and part classical swedish ”don’t think you’re so special”. There is a strong tradition of friends, family and collegues bringing gift after the child is born instead.

That sounds like the kind of group where you can ask just about anything and have an expert answer.

I got nice feedback on a presentation I gave at work earlier this week.

“Thank you for all the concrete tips for how to make X easier. Especially the color coding was cool. Special thanks for making X seem fun, that’s not easy. It’s almost impossible to believe I learned a lot *and* was entertained during your presentation about a topic like X! Well done! I hope you have a great weekend!”

And someone I really look up to had their presentation after mine and caught the last 10 mins or so of my presentation. They emailed me to ask if I could come give my presentation to their organization as well in September. This might become a roadshow now! 😂

I made memes that fit the pretty boring subject matter and people seem to respond to them very well. That helps them stay awake during the boring parts, too. My years of teaching (completely different things) were not in vain. ☺️

My own stupidity. A friend sent me a screenshot of a conversation she’d had on Skype. I expanded it on my phone so I could see it better. I read it and when I finished, I hit the back button to get back to what I was doing. Nothing happened. I hit it again, still nothing. About a dozen tries later a thought started forming in my head. “It’s a screenshot you fucking idiot.” 🤦🏻

Yay!

My specialty is touching non-touch screens and looking confused at the lack of response.

"Busting" a young (18-20ish, she had tattoos so was definitely legal) checking out my crotch when I was buying a coffee....she was inexperienced enough to blush furiously when she saw me catch her, hahah.

The voicemail transcript writing “rainbow” and “menfolk” in place of the medication name. The medication rep sounds ridiculous!

“…available for patients who are currently being prescribed menfolk…” 😋

Her: I’m going to the kitchen and my family will want to talk to me so I’m leaving the phone here. Be right back.

(Leaves phone in bedroom. Earbuds and mic still firmly in place.)

At an international event with some of the most amazing young people in the world. During down time activities, some very exciting Jenga and Connect 4 games took place. It was so much fun and I just love what I do!
