The incompetence and sheer bitchiness of the Department of Home Affairs in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Pissed off: we're well on the way to killing the Great Barrier Reef.
More sad than pissed: John Clarke died suddenly on the weekend. Probably doesn't mean much outside Australia/New Zealand, but he was probably the best satirist in two countries and a lovely guy to boot. One of his classic TV shorts: "The Front Fell Off".
I wonder if the techniques they're using in the Florida Keys and Carribean would help: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/scientists-try-regrow-dying-coral-reef-25-times-faster-nature/ They're seeing promise with the tank system then transplanting the anchor block out. And without competition, the corals are growing like mad and can be tested to see which will survive higher acid levels and heat vs bleaching, etc. So the tech is being developed. I just hope it gets down there fast enough to help save biodiversity.

Yeah, I've wondered about that. It wouldn't be the same as the original species, but could be better than nothing. Dealing with water quality issues would also take some of the pressure off.
But currently our government and the Qld tourism industry are doing their best to deny that the reef is in trouble, so I don't like the chances of getting useful action on any of these fronts :-/

How can they deny the reefs in trouble? They don't die on a whim. On the other hand, the method I referenced was started by one older researcher as a "let's see" solo then it grew because well it grew coral. You'd think from an eco tourism alone side they'd be gung ho about it.
You would think, yes. But the Queensland tourism industry, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that it's best to talk down the problems because it might discourage people from visiting.
Unfortunately the current government has decided that anything environmentalists like MUST be bad, so...
Somebody fucking hit my new car in the parking lot at church. Fuck.

Did they leave info??
car was still parked there. Bumper against mine where it did the damage. Old people. Idk. Took a pic of their car and license plate. Left them a note to call me. Which they have not done yet. ARRGHH.
And I am fine. I wasn't in the car at the time.
