American Cancer Society refuses $500,000 from atheists
Michael Stone, Humanist Examiner
October 13, 2011

The American Cancer Society has turned down a donation worth $500,000 from the Foundation Beyond Belief, a secular charity funded by atheists, freethinkers, and humanists.

Thursday, the Foundation Beyond Belief issued a formal statement indicating that their offer to raise up to a half million dollars through the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life program was recently tabled when the American Cancer Society declined to allow the Foundation to create a national Relay team as other non-profits have done.
There's more (including some samples of comments from ACS's Facebook page) at the original story (linked in the headline), but ACS, WTF?

I don't have family members or even close friends who have suffered from cancer, but this just boggles my mind. I really, really don't get it, and it pisses me off. Cancer has destroyed millions and millions of lives, not only the sufferers but also their friends and families. ACS should be grateful for any least donation, regardless of its origin. Hell... even if a donation were to come from a Colombian drug cartel, or Gaddafi, they should take it!

Wow!
Really?

dreaming about the ex? should that be labeled a nightmare rather than a dream? That is like having a nightmare about work and not getting paid for it.

Being told by my boss, half an hour before my going off work on a week's much-needed holiday, and out of the blue....... that my job is being" offshored" to a team of people in India - with effect from November 2011!

[rant]Being told that the company and he personally value my expertise and will guarantee me a continuing full-time job is not much consolation... what if I don't like/have any interest in the new role they are going to create for me? I liked what I did. What if the new role means I can't work full-time at home like I do now? I'm not fucking rehoming my doggy, OR leaving her home alone during the day.

We are having a meeting about all this on 3rd November when I am back from holiday. Now how the fuck am I supposed to relax and get rest, which is what this time off was for??[/rant]

Feeling excited by realizing a potential solution for something I have been working on and then jumping on my puter to get started and then spending the next few hours fiddling with software problems instead of using that time create... now my excitement is snoring out in the garden swing and my focus a seemingly pestulant child that will not sit still now that I need her to so I can actually get to the task at hand.

Grumble.

[rant]The Three Musketeers 2011 Edition, Warning Warning![rant]

Last night I went through my computer and watched as much as I could about the new Three Musketeers movie, I was impressed and shocked. Impressed due to the fact that Hollywood has cranked up the action, believable fighting sequences, and made what looks like a good Sword and Musket Opera. However Hollywood has also taken great pains to extend and distort the story again just to be different. So fun rump aside; let me take you through a short list of the things that really cheese me off.

One of the first scenes we see that is not flashing by so quickly is the noble three plus d'Artagnan are being interrogated by the French Court. Athos is slowly explaining their adventures to the crown. He is a real life person the Comte de la Fère, a romantic mending a broken heart by serving as a common Musketeer. (The French are very big on romance.) However this gentleman of the French Court is committing the cardinal sin of being in court dressed in brown. The French Court had a strict rule of never being dressed in the colour of excrement. Likewise the Cardinal’s guard is now dressed in black looking more like SS Officers than historic figures. I could go on and on on this subject but let’s stop right there.

There are also scenes where the French Army is marched in battalion upon battalion in the courtyard of a French Palace all in dark uniforms. These are more images similar to the Nazi party of the early 20th Century, not in early 16th Century France. As a matter of fact rarely did anybody except for the Generals have any idea or scope of armies involved in a big battle. For the most part the French had good maps, and a General would order we meet on this day “X” at this little town “Y” here. After that it’s a rush as to who gets to “Y” first and finds the best place to camp.

The Duke of Buckingham, in the novel was a minor character, now he is the major villain. Why, because he has air-ships the size of 300 gun sailing man of war ships and he commands the sky. PLEASE show some respect. Yes Buckingham had lots of “scientific drawings” in his study but none ever went beyond drawing stage. In real life he wanted to make a big splash at the French Court of Louis XIII. He lavished attention on the Queen, (who was in disfavour,) when many ignored her. One of Cardinal Richelieu’s spies reported the Queen was having dangerous liaisons with Buckingham. Okay I can do several pages explaining that, let’s just stop at the left turn away from reality.

Finally the most dangerous assassin of France; Milady Clarick de Winter who again really existed, served as one of the Cardinal’s many spies. She was at the age of 16 arrested as a prostitute, branded, sent to a convent where she was raped by the convent’s priest. She strangled him with his rosary. Runs away, meets young Athos, marries him, and by accident he sees her branding. Tragedy, he becomes a drunk and serves with the Musketeers trying to die in combat. She runs off to hide in a convent, this time murdering a lesbian nun and getting caught. The church court wanted here executed and required Richilieu’s permission. He looked her over and had other ideas. I think the movie goes really want to get into this movie and appeal to the female audience. Historically armies of the time had as many as 20% of their forces was transvestites. To be exact, women dressed as men serving as soldiers. However in this film she appears to be with the Musketeers as they try to stop Buckingham’s attempt at world domination.

Okay I never knew the English were planning on taking over the world, but if you can overlooks those small problems, you can see my point. There is no intelligence here, we have a wonderful historic pieces, admittedly coloured by flaws and popular rumours that existed when the original novel was written back in Napoleon’s day. As a sidebar in the Napoleonic era the church was viewed with suspicion and thus Richilieu had to be the villain.

Oh goodness. *hugs EVERYONE*

Things that pissed me off today: The art directors deciding that cramming TEN mentally-ill individuals into ONE van for a THREE HOUR drive each way was a good idea. *headdesk* Cue panic attacks.

People who won't FREAKIN' SHUT UP or at least lower their voices, when I have JUST SAID that I need space and you can SEE me crying.

Oh, and my inability to say no to smooth-talking salespeople. I now have $20 less, and a blanket I don't actually need (it's pretty, and warm, but I didn't *need* it...).

I really expect adults to act in a reasonably mature way with individual responsibility. Be grown up enough to tell me the truth; don't make up stories and excuses. I am so frustrated right now that I couldn't even continue my conversation ... too many excuses, to many stories ..... not gonna happen. And that didn't bring out the best in me and rather than just calling her on it, I cut the conversation short. I just didn't want to frustrate myself any more.

A certain someone not answering his phone. What's the point of having a phone if you're not going to use it??

Thing that shits me 1: Items listed on ebay as being in Australia when in actual fact, they are not.

Thing that shits me 2: Accidentally buying said item

Thing that shits me 3: Waiting near 4 weeks, then emailing, organising my refund and what not (which is good) but then the fucking thing shows up in the post the very next day!

It was refunded through paypal, I can see that. I'm waiting for the cash to hit my card before I email to offer a post back.

To be fair, they didn't outright say that they wouldn't accept the money...just not as part of a National Relay Team member. It's still bollocks, but it's better bollocks?

Kidnapped bulldog found dead in Kelso

An English bulldog from Woodland that reportedly was held for ransom, attracting international attention, has been found dead on the railroad tracks near Kelso.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office said a resident of Kelso called Monday and reported seeing a dead dog along the tracks Sunday night in the 2400 block of Talley Way. Based on the dog's markings, deputies confirmed it was the missing dog, Jagger, who had been struck by a train.

"He didn't deserve that at all," his owner, Jennifer Thomas of Woodland, said Monday. "I don't know who would do that. He was the sweetest boy. He'd never hurt anybody. I didn't even love animals before I got him — that tells you how special he was."

She asked animal control officer Mike Nicholson to make an impression of Jagger's pawprint for her.

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

People who expect me to organise their life for them. Hell I have issues organising my own let alone anyone elses.

*snort*

Want some cheese to go with that? Try living in a state that's 95% "remote part!"

I love cheese. Thank you, Sir.

Actually, there was more to smile about then to be pissed off about. It is a very beautiful area and no one could get a hold of me. :D

Thank you for making me think about it a different way. :rose:

No problem a'tall. I love twisting minds until they're thinking a different direction. ;)

I should do the 'right' thing and post this in a politically correct (or lit correct) manner. But, I don't wanna. I'm tired of always being the one to compromise, to get the short end of the stick, to make allowances for others.

So.

What pissed me off today? Doms. Or, the dominant males in my life pissed me off today. Seriously PISSED ME OFF.

Also: people who don't LISTEN, people who PRESUME to know what I'm going to say, or what I'm thinking. People who think they know what I need, what I deserve, what I should do, or not do.

Leave me the F alone. If you're not a friend, you're a foe. If you're not willing to recognize that I have an opinion, and it should be valued, and a mind of my own? Stay away.

Sober driving idiots. After going to pick them up they decided to keep drinking for a bit then asked me to find them some females for them to talk to then asked a question that began "K...if you were a female, would you" hmmm and here I was thinking I was a female, obviously I was wrong.

I ended up leaving them at the pub and now they are text bombarding me so have turned my phone off.
