This came on the radio before and it reminded me of a gig we played last year.

The stage crew had marshalled us onstage but there were technical problems with the drumkit so we couldn't start the set straightaway. This song was playing over the PA so, rather than just stand there like a prune, or walk off again whilst the techies did their stuff, I decided to play along, it having the world's easiest bassline which even I can manage....

Our singer turned round, looked at me, mouthed *smartarse* and walked off :D
Makes me laugh every time I hear it...

Sometimes sadness and pain expressed through music can help change the world. I'm not sure I should post this here, I'm not even sure it the kind of music most of you are going to like.

Sweet Honey in the Rock - The Women Gather

Why shouldn't you post it here? As far as I know, this is just a thread for musical aficionados to share what music they like.

I'll admit I haven't heard of that group or song, nor would I necessarily listen to it again, yet I opened it and found merit in the ability of the singers. However I am extremely picky about who or what I listen to.

For instance; I LOVED Exposé when they first came out (1987?). It's VERY rare that I like all songs from one album. I heard "let me be the one" and that prompted me to listen to their whole album (and buy it, again, something I rarely do). I can sit and listen to "Exposure" until I grow old and die and not get bored of it.

...Their second album and any music thereafter? Can't stand it. A coworker gave me her album of it, I greedily accepted it, hoping/expecting it to be a a pleasure. In the first 5 seconds, I knew I wouldn't like it. I listened to the whole album, took off the headphones, handed back the album and said "It sucked."

Trendy or off trend, I like what I like. When I first heard "Kicking Harold's" Gasoline back in 1994 or 1995 (used later as Foose's TV show's Overhaulin' theme song), I thought it was very cool.

Likewise I loved Tears for Fears' "mad world" when it first came out. I admit it sounded better when Gary Jules came out with his version. The point being Tears for Fears was at the top of their game, very popular, then came out with their most unpopular song ever.

Just to harp on the subject a little more, some sad songs don't come across right to me. Despite what I think of their IRA political leanings, I liked the Cranberries "Zombie". It was sung well. ..."well sung"? Whatever. (Some suggest that the song is anti-IRA. Whatever. I tend to hate politics in anything other than politics, but I made an exception for that) However, when I heard Suzanne Vega's Luka, I enjoyed the ability to compose it and talent required and all that, but for the life of me, the song is just too sad to "enjoy."

Opposed to that, there was a song by ( some mulatto dude, with dreadlocks singer from the mid 90's who I can't remember his name) who sang a whiny song about interracial relationships (I think), and some folks thought I was being a racist when I said I absolutely hated the song (Fools! If they only knew...).
The song was too whiny. What it's subject matter was about didn't matter. I don't like a song because a pretty ass sings it, nor because it's subject matter is important.

One hit wonders, "boy bands", different genres, whatever. If it's good, it's good, if not...

'nuff said.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

You asked for it LWulf!

Yuja Wang~Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1

If that doesn't trip your trigger how about this.

Luciano Pavarotti & Tracy Chapman - Baby Can I Hold You

Sorry to say but you didn't even come close to tripping my trigger, if I follow your meaning. lol

Pavarotti has been long known for his "jamming" with contemporary pop musicians. He was a rather nice man.
I'm not a big fan of music that I need subtitles to listen to it.

My mom took piano lessons when I was younger and I used to sit quietly and listen to her progression (normal piano lessons mean learning the classics). So, yes, I like the classics.

Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor anyone? I actually used to listen to a version that had a soprano quietly harmonizing, but lost the link years ago. It was quite beautiful.
No? how about Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor?

Party Anthem- Arctic Monkeys

Particularly the line;

"I just want you to do me no good,
You look like you could.." ;)
