She really dislikes carousel horses, huh?

Maybe. :)

Her style is really dramatic, no matter what she sings. She popped into fame from a Krakow cabaret called Piwnica Pod Baranami, which was and I suppose still is the most iconic cultural venue in Poland. She was called "Black Angel" when she performed and she's one of the most famous Polish singers of her era, a really big cultural figure.

The text of the song is by the poet Milon Białoszewski, who's well known for using a lot of kitchy imagery in his poetry and even what was and still is considered "low" language. He wrote about little everyday things rather than big and heavy themes, but in reality a lot of his poems are, at least these days, seen as commentary of the "bigger picture" and linked heavily to history and the works of other poets.

Carousel is an important symbol in Polish literature and it features heavily in some of the most famous Polish works of literature. One of the most famous poems, and the one that most people think of when they think of carousel and Polish poetry, is Campo di Fiori by Czesław Miłosz, which is about holocaust. The poem is so pervasive that pretty much everything that's written after Campo di Fiori that features carousels is automatically read with another layer of connotations added to it - the holocaust.

I don't want to go into details because this is hardly the place to discuss such things, but yeah, there's a lot of subtext hiding in that song. Lots of dichotomy. :)

The song randomly pops into my head when I least expect it. I've grown fond of it.

Keith Urban. ..Long Hot Summer

It’s gonna be a long, hot summer, we should be together
With your feet up on the dashboard now
Singing along with the radio, it’s such a beautiful sound
And when you say my name in the middle of the day, I swear I see the stars come out
When you hold my hand in the back of my mind, just waiting on the sun to go down, the sun to go down

A sweet quiet song.

Where the Dream Takes You
Mýa

They'll try to hold you back
They will say your wrong
But they will never understand
The journey that your on

They'll try to change your mind
They'll try to change your heart, oh yeah
But they will never understand
Who you are
And you'll still believe
(still believe)
And you know,
(you know)

(you must go)

Where the dream takes you
(Where your dream takes your heart)
Where your heart longs to be
(Your dream will lead you on)
When you finally find that place
You'll find all you need
Where the dream takes you

where the dream takes you...

There's something in your soul
(There's something in your soul)
That won't be denied
It's the fate to dream that keep
That dream alive

(still believe)
And you know,
(you know)

)Your dream will lead you on)
When you finally find that place
You'll find all you need

Where the dream takes you...
Go where your heart is meant to be
And you may find
(You may find)

(somebody there)
Who wants you share your dream

(Where your dream takes your heart)
(Your dream will lead you on)

When you finally find that place
You'll find all you need

Where the dream leads you
(Your dream will lead you home)
Where your eyes can see
(Your dream will lead you on)
There's a world that waits for you
Can neither hold
You'll find your home

(Where the dream takes you)
Try to change your mind
(Where the dream takes you)
Try to change your heart
(Where the dream takes you)
but you must go...

Where the dream takes you

The Shins - Simple Song
https://youtu.be/YuHoIPlnar4

Well, this is just a simple song,
To say what you done.
I told you 'bout all those fears,
And away they did run.
You sure must be strong,
And you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun.
