Whew! Good to know :D

Question for the group - has anyone ever made Pad Thai and had the noodles come out real gloopy and starchy? Anybody have any suggestions to avoid this? Thanks!

If you use boiling water to soak your noodles they won't take long to cook. You'll want to rinse them in cold water to stop them from cooking further, and undercook them for the stir fry. They'll soak up and cook a little more while being stir fried.

With boiling water you probably don't want to soak them more than 10 minutes. :)

A dinner that those who eschew carbs will abhor: Cilantro pesto on pasta (we've had more luck with growing cilantro this summer than in any year, ever), fresh sweet corn on the cob, and chocolate zucchini cake (the zucchini are also producing like mad).

It sounds like you are soaking the noodles for too long.

Well I soaked them with a timer for the exact time called for... We have extra hard water here, but have no idea if that would be a factor?

Methinks you should delete the number of that Thai place from your phone and find a Thai place where someone knows how to cook.

Then I'll end up like you, can't cook anything :p
No thanks!

Thanks Meeks! I will try this.

It's harder to boil hard water, which, I believe means the heat has to be set higher or for a longer duration.

Alright! I made the mistake of putting my eggplant next to a banana and now I need to use the eggplant (or the part that isn't really gross >_<).

What's something quick, tasty and takes little effort for eggplant? I dunno why, but I really want to have it with vinegar. (o_o)

Par boil it whole. Shock it. Slice 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick, fresh garlic, salt and pepper, olive oil and red wine vinegar. Serve room temp. :)

Can't help on that one, eggplant is death to me.

Grilled and with balsamic vinegar and olive oil? Could add grilled or sautéed tomato, garlic, or maybe feta cheese and thyme?

That sounds yummy, I'm a fan of balsamic vinegar. :) Thank you, I had something like this in mind. I have some red bell peppers that might go well with this.

This sounds really simple and tasty. Thank you. (*^_^*)

Think tart and enough garlic to trigger the avoidance mechanism in Vampires. ;)
It is also good chilled.

This sounds good, not something I'd normally do, I think I will try it, thanks:). Meekme, your question benefits more than you. :)

Meekme and Gianbattista:

Let me know if you try it and how it comes out for you.
It is a dish my mother in law used to do.

Ciao

I will do bleublood, I might try it weekend after this one. :)

I got today this book
http://www.peter-gordon.net/books/Vegetables.php. Which has some really lovely looking recipes in it. Beetroot pickled been sprouts look tempting, for example.

I never thought about beet root pickled bean sprouts. Interesting idea. :)
I have seen beet root cured salmon, though I have not yet tried it.
Thanks

easiest salmon ever

tonight is my week night salmon

salmon dusted with salt pepper and your choice of seasonings with a good olive oil rub

cold oven at 425 for 25 min

yummmmm

and roasted brussel sprouts with olive oil and salt and pepper. I just slice in half and place on the sheet pan surrounding the salmon

Mmmm beets! One of the traditional Penn Dutch treats is beetroot pickled eggs. The beets are cooked with vinegar and spices, then hard-boiled eggs are added. They become a beautiful purple color.

Beetroot cured salmon is beautiful and I think it is delicious.

There are a couple of tea smoked ones its possible to get here quite easily, one I love, one I do not. Also one of the big supermarkets does pine smoked at Christmas time, and that is delicious too. ( I thought it would be not nice and I was wrong).

I can put the recipe for the been sprouts If wanted.

The recipe would be great!
Thanks

I have tea smoked salmon. It does quite well.
The pine is an interesting idea. :)

I can cook. It's just that people here would soon tire of hearing about my orgasmically fantastical mac and cheese. And I don't even use the blue box stuff, either. :D

Tell me about your mac n cheese please. :)

Don't you thing variations on recipes are interesting? I eat porridge most mornings, but it tastes good because of the spoon I eat it from I think  and the slight variations. Scottish salty or raspberries from the canes cooked through it turning it pink, or some morning ripe strawberries roughly chopped on top. Pollen on the top, or some seeds for crunch.

I like variations. Most recently, it was a chili and chicken variant. Soon on my list: lobster mac and cheese, though that may have to wait until I can get back to Maine so I don't ave to pay for the lobster to fly first class to Chicago. ;)

Some here would have scoffed openly but now that you've shamed them, they'll suffer in silence. While they make their favorite bark and weeds-infused tea with Mexican crumpets and lizard soup. :D
