All the cook books say you should plan on 1.25 to 1.5 pounds of fresh turkey per dinner guest. OK, but how much Tofurkey per person?

Celery soup. Bland as fuck, despite the addition of pepper.

I make mine with cream cheese and garlic. I also brown bread cubes in butter to toss on top when serving. Gives it a bit more flavor than most recipes I've found.

DD2 and I survived grocery shopping today. Whew! We are going to a friend's Orphan Dinner for Thanksgiving, and I'm making my Grandma's standard "Potato Filling" which is basically standard bread stuffing mixed with mashed potatoes. I've played with it a little over the years, but stayed 90% true because one doesn't tweak perfection! It uses a LOT of butter, IMO, but it's not right otherwise. I've tried, and folks have noticed. Threats were made.

Poor DD1 is dithering because she has classes through Wednesday, and was offered double points if she attends a Wednesday afternoon class (no loss if she skips but...). She's not sure how she's going to score a fresh turkey breast anywhere, otherwise. Apparently they are hard to find in the WindyGobble City. I suggested she beg heavily to a mutual friend in 'burbs. I have a feeling she would think kindly of a cupcake for turkey trade. :)

Despite going to the Orphan's Feast, I still bought a bone-in spiral ham because...HAM (and marrow, MMMMM), and a turkey breast for Master.

And random share....one of my besties on Facebook posted a link for Cannabis-Infused Turkey. Master commented that if it were to be barbecued it could be 'double-smoked.' :D

Whipped up a batch of made-from-scratch mac and cheese with whole wheat pasta, Swiss, mozzarella and Colby-jack cheeses. It claimed the lives of a spatula and my spice grinder but I got it done. Made a huge batch since we have the in-laws visiting and I wanted to have some to throw in the freezer for easy meals for the husband. He was very pleased with as was my one year old. My three year old (well as of tomorrow) and I are still blue-box kids but that's okay. He tried it and that's all I ask.

Also made a batch of medicinal cookies (has my card, I'm legal  ) to help with the pain from typing most the day and mixing the big batch of goodness.

Oh....I love cooked celery.

I make my own chicken stock, and I have found that I adore celery braised in it. Commercial chicken stock just doesn't do the trick, but the homemade stuff makes it taste delicious. The same for leeks - I love them braised!

:rose: we all have days like that in the kitchen.

Accept Seela, and collar and cuffs and meek me.

Meek me, how was super exciting meal? I am a little nervous of cooking okra. My mothers okra was always so good and mine has been a little disappointing.

You must have missed my post where I managed to screw up batter bread :p
Gs bread looks yummy, too!

Braised celery is just heavenly. Its such a great side dish. I cannot work out why its not more popular.

What's batter bread please?

Cornbread, and any other bread where you just mix a batter and pop it in the oven. It uses baking soda and/or powder instead of yeast.

Ah, oh. Thanks. A hiccough day you had. :). Do you make soda bread too, or potato farls?

The biga for this sour dough G started is getting better now. It did the pita bread the other day, the loaf this morning, ( I might slice and try and make Melba toast from the rest ) and it is making some sort of flute for tonight.) . Each time it gets better. It bakes much better in the wood stove than in the electric oven, we think, but this morning it was the electric oven and delicious, so maybe its just personal bias! :D

I haven't made soda bread in years, but I make potato bread every now and again. More often, potato pancakes.

So much noms. Made cranberry sauce yesterday, then this eve I've made pumpkin pie, banana cream pie, candied pecans, and have overnight cinnamon roll dough rising now. After working a full 8 hours today. House smells awesome.
