What's The State of the Board?

Lancecastor said:
More posts equals more hits equals maintenance as the highest traffic erotic story site on the web equals highest referral fees for exit traffic equals more money for the humans or corporations behind the entity known as Laurel.

The success of Lit comes not from your individual experience but from the money made by the owner(s).

But enough of that...you folks keep saying you don't want to talk about stuff from days or yore...then keep yapping about it.

Anyone else have thoughts on the State of the Board ?

So, are you bothered that the success of this particular site is generating money for corporations and Laurel/Manu?

And I assume you are asking about the state of THIS particular board and not Lit as a whole. Correct?

Personally, the state of this board is what an individual poster makes it for himself. It's the internet. And one has sole control over one's very own computer. It's up to each of us to decide if this board has entertainment (in my case, that is the reason I post here and the few good friends I enjoy bantering with) and educational value or not. If it fails to provide whatever it is that one is looking for, then that one will move on.

I admit sometimes I get bored with the same threads, over and over and it's one of the major reasons I rarely post to the talk board. I have posted to many of these same threads before and before and before... And I begin to wonder how much anything I have to say matters to anyone but me. I really don't post to see myself in print, (like some people like to hear themselves speak.) When I do post to something, I usually post what I think and leave it at that.

When the day comes that it's no longer entertaining for me to be here, I will be gone. And I think I speak for most people when I say that.

It's really all that simple.

1. I didn't say that; in fact, I'm totally supportive of people making money off sex on the web. If I have a criticism it would be more towards those who use the board thinking it's free and/or that Laurel's ******* Media Corp is doing something benevolent here...our movements are tracked, everything we say is recorded, and they make their living from it...it's anything but a charity.

2. I suggest the state of the board extends far beyond an individual's perception...it's a community and has a character of its own in my view that supercedes the sum of its parts.

3. I think most people who have been here any length of time would say much the same thing...which leads to the question: Is the BDSM Forum a place that has a limited appeal?

1. We agree on this point. I have no issue with your comments.

2. I see your point. But I don't agree with it. Personally, I don't feel like I am part of a community. I have friends, yes. And I value those friendships. But community connotes something I really do not feel. I know many here who do feel that and I'm glad they have found something to make them feel more comfortable and liberated in their chosen lifestyles. I

I do think that many of the newbies do feel a good sense of community and I can only make that judgement based on their posts and the friendships they have obviously made here.

3. I think that yes, to a degree it does have limited appeal. And I use myself as my example. As I stated, many of the talk threads are tired and redundant to me. I know that they are new to the new posters and that's wonderful. I also know that those of us who have been here any length of time might owe something to the new posters by posting to those threads and offering our insights and experiences.

So, in the regard of limited appeal, it's limited to maybe new posters and new to the lifestyle folks. But never forget, that we can all learn something from everyone... new posters provide me with opportunities to rethink some things.

The Cafe still provides me a good measure of entertainment. And as long as it does, I will remain here.

God Lance, I never post stuff this long...

I am assuming that you did not put asterisks there. Correct? (I don't need to know what the word was, I'm just curious.)

Er, well, gee, let me think about that just a little...

Well duh! Yes! Not everyone is into BDSM, and hence the BDSM forum won't appeal to everyone.

So what's your point?

Correct...it's a serverside thing. Neat, huh?

Laurel's real name does the same thing.

I've seen it with various other words. For a while Ebonyfire was able to make it censor "fucking" for no apparent reason.

I remember that! For some reason it picked on her, and yet other people could say the same thing without the same effect.

Cue spooky music

Did it ever occur to you that ******* and fucking have the same number of letters...that perhaps Ebony knew this?

Oy.

Wow. Really? You mean it's all like some sort of big conspiracy? :p

Ah, well that'll explain why my hair has been sticking straight up!

Just remember it can't just stick up, it has to be purple too :)
