I have heard that when a man refers to another man as a "prick" or a "dick" or a "putz," it refers to a man who thinks only about his penis (or with his penis). Is that true, guys? It does sort of fit in with the "self-centered" thing, but there may be something more here.

Usually when a man is called a "prick" or a "dick", it means he is being a jerk. Men get called so many names by both men and women, most of the names don't bother us anymore; however, the one thing no man wants to be called is a Loser.

And "jerk" was originally a contraction for "jerk-off" or masturbater. So maybe Athalia's on to something in her reference to a "prick" or a "dick" meaning somebody who's only concerned with self-gratification.

But none of these terms is as derogatory as "cunt" (in its derogatory sense). I don't know of any term that is a strict counterpart.

I think you are probably right on that.

As many have said here... it is the connotation or context in which it is used. As a society we have been taught that it has very vulgar meaning. The worst of the worst so to speak. At the end of the day yes it is just a word - four letters- big deal. Its the education affiliated with the word. To me I don't particularly care for it as most others yes I have used the word. For me, I find it particularly vulgar when a woman uses the Cunt word but then again the context in which it is used has a difference. I cannot think of a time that I have heard a woman use it in a moment of passion. Only just in the vulgar context that most find it repulsive.

When I was much younger a friends dad told me one time that it is a weak or uneducated mind that resorts to slang or "four letter" words and that they resort to those kinds of words when they dont have the "smarts" to win with intelligence or wit. Made a big impression on me.
