zmp~ an ocean of stars

I have watched the water
in the river flow by
for many many years
with these old eyes

when the sun bounces
into the blue sky
sparkles the river
like the stars of the night

and when the sun sinks
behind tall timbered pines
and the moon arises
the river still intertwines

I look up above me
on a cloudless night, I see far
standing by the river
under an ocean of stars

Monotheism ignores inherent variety

Among the first lines in the Tao Te Ching is this little gem:

"The way (tao) that can be spoken of is not the constant way; the name
that can be named is not the constant name. The nameless was the beginning
of heaven and earth; The named was the mother of the myriad creatures. Hence
always rid yourself of desires in order to observe its secrets; But always
allow yourself to have desires in order to observe its manifestations. These
two are the same but diverge in name as they issue forth. Being the same
they are called mysteries, Mystery upon mystery--The gateway of the manifold
secrets."

(From Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, translated by D.C. Lau)

***** The problem is not any faith, non-faith or philosophy. The problem is
intolerance.

.......we have made a great mistake in thinking of God as something outside
of us. It's not theology, it's psychology. The "one true God", aka "the
Father" or "the Father/Mother" is our own highest consciousness - a
transcendant connection to all creation - to all of life. It is being one
with the One - an understanding of what "I AM". The "Son" (aka Logos /
Christos) and the "Spirit" (Sophia / Barbelo) is the male / female aspects
of the personality (action, reason verses reflective, intuitive). Angels
("gods") are the various aspects of personality. The conclusion of millenia
of mystical experience is this, "There is nothing outside of you that is not
first and formost inside of you."

I believe in the cosmos. All of us are linked to the cosmos. So nature is
my god. To me, nature is sacred. Trees are my temples and forests are my
cathedrals.

Take a peek at http://www.pantheis m.net/

Is Nature your spiritual home?
Do you feel a deep sense of peace and belonging and wonder in the midst
of nature, in a forest, by the ocean, or on a mountain top? Are you
speechless with awe when you look up at the sky on a clear moonless night
and see the Milky Way strewn with stars as thick as sand on a beach?
When you see breakers crashing on a rocky shore, or hear wind rustling
in a poplar's leaves, are you uplifted by the energy and creativity of
existence?
Do you find it impossible to believe in supernatural beings, and
difficult to conceive of anything more worthy of reverence than the beauty
of nature or the power of the universe?
If you answered yes to these questions, then you will feel thoroughly
at home in the World Pantheist Movement.

I can relate ten fold...
I own a copy of... Tao Te Ching
but have never heard of Pantheis
(the link did not open)
I googled and came up with a variety of options and was unable to track it down. (try again, please) I am always up for an interesting read.

There once lived a great warrior. Though quite old, he still was able to defeat any challenger. His reputation extended far and wide throughout the land and many students gathered to study under him.
One day an infamous young warrior arrived at the village. He was determined to be the first man to defeat the great master. Along with his strength, he had an uncanny ability to spot and exploit any weakness in an opponent. He would wait for his opponent to make the first move, thus revealing a weakness, and then would strike with merciless force and lightning speed. No one had ever lasted with him in a match beyond the first move.

Much against the advice of his concerned students, the old master gladly accepted the young warrior's challenge. As the two squared off for battle, the young warrior began to hurl insults at the old master. He threw dirt and spit in his face. For hours he verbally assaulted him with every curse and insult known to mankind. But the old warrior merely stood there motionless and calm. Finally, the young warrior exhausted himself. Knowing he was defeated, he left feeling shamed.

Somewhat disappointed that he did not fight the insolent youth, the students gathered around the old master and questioned him. "How could you endure such an indignity? How did you drive him away?"

"If someone comes to give you a gift and you do not receive it," the master replied, "to whom does the gift belong?"

This would put us back to the statement to only take to heart those critiques by those with "Credentials" ....for all else are simply 'critics in training' or honest opinions of how the poem made them feel.

Ange listens to Senna because of his credentials? I would cast his comment in delete and not think twice about it. For there are way to many polite members here willing to help with a volley of friendly communication.

and I put Tara in the same list as Senna, 1201, sack and........those I do not listen to because they lack social skills and do not communicate well with others that are not at their level of elitism.

your still low voting and not voting on the poem's worth but rather your angry or not! that not only makes you a troll, but a troll as slow as a snail. Have a nice day, twelve! Is this suppose to be a spanking. Cause it doesn't really hurt <bigrin

Let's talk about trolls, ok hypocrite?
Now I am getting tired of this twelve thing. It is a diversion and a cheap twofer, and a just like your get four at once comment. And two where not in a position to reply, just like twelve probably isn't.

I liked Scott's comment though. And I don't mind that he liked it, I just feel any 15 year old on Ritalin could have wrote it.

As for your writing graciously.... that was truly pompous, if any of your crowd's enemies had written it, what would they have said about it?
Now get off of your soapbox, blow-hard. Did I see a public apology? Anytime I see a public swipe, I swipe back, regardless of who you go after. Tired of you trying to exploit new comers with your inferences.

Luckenbauch Moon

Nothing much happened
in Luckenbauch this month,
except for the potatoe chip man came by.
Then there was the moon...
we try to tell folks
who come here to look at our moon,
what a big mean moon we have,
but nobody'll believe it.

Last night it showed off
the greatest ever,
it just hung there,
daring you to look at it.
Making silouettes into things
and things came alive.
It even shined plumb to the bottom of the canyon.
Under bluffs and plopped dark donuts
around the bottom of the trees
on top of the mountain.

Its the kind of moon
that makes haunted houses uglier
and ugly girls prettier.
Little ole animals see farther
and feel closer together.
Brave weeds even rose up
to look around for lawn mowers.

Grandpa sat up in bed
and said, "What's that!"
And the hair on grandma's leg
stood up on ends, he said.

On big bright nights like this
they got deer, tip toes into larger openings
where they can dance better
because they can see where the rocks are at.
And their prancing gets free'er
and prettier cause they know man's
not there to dampen the dance.

This kind of moonshine makes you crazy
if you sleep in it,
I think your crazy not to try it.
Momma slept with baby to protect it
and I flouched under the covers,
even in a thick rock house.

When I went outside to see what was the matter,
something scared cold chills up my back,
everything was standing at attention
over new shadows and then
what was that that moved...
probably just a little ole nothing.

The big full moon is like a person, really.
It needs help to show off,
last night, all the clouds stayed home
on purpose to create a great solo.
We can't stand an encore,
for it takes to much out of ya'.
Those that saw the moon said,
"they could smell it"
and one said it tasted like sin.

The quietness of the park side road
was deafening and the little single couple sitting there,
touched the backs of their hands together...
that scared me.

We been telling strangers
that come to Luckenbauch
about our moon
but I know they won't believe
we have such a big Moon
for such a small town.

Some "food for thought"
Carrot, Egg, and Coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again...

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see. "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity - boiling water. Each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

You might want to send this message to those people who mean something to you (I JUST DID); to those who have touched your life in one way or another; to those who make you smile when you really need it; to those who make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down? To those whose friendships you appreciate; to those who are so meaningful in your life. If you don't send it, you will just miss out on the opportunity to brighten someone's day with this message!

This reminded me of the professor's leason of limits (you may have read it)

a professor filled a jar with rocks and asked the class...

"Is this jar full?"

and the class responded, "Yes!"

The professor then added some small pebbles that filled the areas between the rocks. and he asked the class again... "Is the jar now full?"

and the class responded, "Yes!"

He then filled the jar with sand, that worked its way into the areas between the rocks and the pebbles and asked... "Is the jar now full?"

and the class responded, "Yes!"

The professor then told the class that things are not always as they appear. Just when you think you have reached a limit... there seems to be a way to take on more...

Finally the professor added water to the jar and filled it to the rim, now full of rocks, pebbles, sand and water. "That is a lesson in limitations."

It's easier to build a child than repair an adult.

This is so true - may we all be a good cup of coffee..

how you are...
Quasar
the star from afar

In the vastness of void
a (huge) eruption accured
expelling (debris) in every direction
an expansion in its own universal time
that which will reverse and contract
condensing to explode again
and again, the cosmic expansion
contraction cycle begins again.
Do we live, each time it is our time.
Or is there another, us.

if frustration is a sign of a limited mind
and the mind has reached its limits
then any thing else must be
the outer limits

a little tiny creek
lays in a trickling wake
for nothing except the rain
pounded by its liquid bullets
gathering in pools
then caressed
by its overwehlming passing
yeilding to its passionate power
as the hills umbrella avenues
of gravity fed miniture rivers
that converged, mix and breakaway

engulfed in its being
pounded by its growing fury
as it rises and rises, swelling
ascending above the creek banks
ripping the dirt from rooted trees
submerged in its essence
capturing and dragging everything
from leafs to twigs into its
whirling swells a drift
in a fast flowing flood
the water way roars

a little tiny creek

outer limits

if frustration is a sign of a limited mind
that has reached its limitation
then any thing else must be
the outer limits

the inner circle of thoughts swirl
like an ant farm freshly fed
to focus on just one, idea
surreal

in the likeness of an elaborate labrynith
always running into a dead end
in the void between thoughtless lobes
the twightlight zone
