🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

Yes or even sometimes it's worth it to get a hotel room for literally just like three hours...take a shower and a nap and get back on the road .....you're like a whole new person. But the post entire race shower, meal and sleep in that order are borderline orgasmic 😂
Oh I bet! That would be amazing after that long!

Serenity Sunday Check-in

I signed up to participate in a fundraiser for cancer research for the month of March. I’ve pledged to walk 50 miles (really not much over the whole month!). I didn’t want to do it alone so I joined an online group of people to take their dogs for walks in different places around my area, and I met them recently for the first time. It’s really amazing who you can meet online --present company included- and how easy it is to get to know such meaningful and interesting people through this sort of platform.

[beware.. tangent starting…]
I remember the first time I met someone online who made such a difference in my life. I was pregnant with my first daughter, and I had no friends with children. None of my friends at the time were planning on having children, so when I started having some complications, I didn’t really know who I could talk to besides my doctor. One of my friends worked in computers, and introduced me to an online mom’s group and it was a life saver. We had multiple meetups across the country over the years and I made a couple lifelong friends.

I guess what I’m thinking about on this Serenity Sunday, is how I’m thankful for the connections I’ve made online. Some are for a short time, some are longer, and some are never ending. I guess there were some that should have been shorter or maybe never at all. But even those painful ones taught me lessons.

What are your experiences and memories of online communities and friendships? What other sorts of groups do you belong to?(without giving too much personal information, of course)

Triathlon groups, nutrition groups, or other types of hobby communities? Or is Lit your first experience with an online community?

For a brief time in the 90s i fiddled around with Yahoo chat groups but other than that this last week here has been it. And I really am seeing the appeal.

In real life these journey runs I talked about? The community of people who do them is small as you can imagine, and it's been a revelation. I've made friends who have taught me things and helped me process a new world and that has bled into other parts of my own world.

I think for me...being an introvert .... Community has been important but I've struggled to find it at many times. This place online has helped bridge the gap between what I need and what I'm capable of finding.

That was rambling I know and maybe it wasn't even clear but it's the best I've got for ya lol

I don't know how serene or sane I've been recently. I've been fighting a bit of a bug for a couple weeks now and that has meant less activity and I'm noticing it. Hopefully the tides there are turning.

What are your experiences and memories of online communities and friendships?
Most of my experiences are with discussion board communities like this (in style, not content). Most others have been sports related, I'd say I haven't had as good of experience with those as here, sports fans have short fuses and love to lose their shit over the same thing until the end of time.

Here is the only place I've met lasting friends and even some of the most important people in my life. I won't pretend there isn't ridiculousness here though, it's why I tend to stick to threads like this. A nice community where everyone seems chill and supportive. If you want to lose your shit here until the end of time, I think you can find spaces to do that.

In an online setting? I can't think of another (and I'm pretty sporadic here, too). I have some groups that have an online or group chat, but they are all an extension of people who I've met in person first.

At the beginning of the year I had decided I would focus on my irl connections. I had an online special friend but I failed to msg him on NYE because I went to an outdoor hockey game and it was a big to do and I practically collapsed once we got back to our hotel. So we broke up for the umpteenth time. I actually joined this site after one of our worst spats at the end of September. Yesterday he sent me another msg showing me he’s back on his shit again. So right now I’m mostly wondering WTF I’m doing online.

I’m also in Day 26 of Covid. I went to the E.R. on Wednesday and they said they can’t do anything for me. It’s Long Haul and I should see a specialist. So I’m stuck doing nothing most days and very bored.

Reddit. I spend too much time there. Here lately. One discord server for people whose minds are as twisted as mine.

But I do have one fitness accountability group I’m a part of on Facebook and a Productivity app I enjoy. It’s probably time to focus on those more. And life, once it resumes.

Lit was my first experience of an online community. I came here when my wife stopped having sex with me more than twenty years ago. The friendships I built here (and the sexting I’ve done here) have gotten me through it all. (And the fitness-oriented short stories I posted helped vent some of my fantasies.)

The only other online community is for my workout interests. I was also on the bodybuilding . com forums for a long time. Now that they are dead, I’m on Ryse.

I am grateful for the existence of these online communities, and for those good-hearted posters in the threads I visit!

Woke up this morning with that great fatigue feeling (not sore) in my legs..... The real training toward April 24 (next race) has begun! I fucking love it!

Ok that is all....back to my coffee 😂
Let me guess… you’re a morning person :)

I am too. I’ve always woken up early in the morning. That’s just when my body is ready to start the day.

Very much so! I don't always do my workout then (except I usually do get the pushups in then because we'll get those out of the way yuck) but I do love time with my dear coffee 😂

Oh and good morning 🌄!

So I went to see an orthopedic doctor today for my butt... 🍑 My tailbone is definitely fractured, and I dislocated the tip of it. I'm out skating and working out in general for 6 weeks :( Thankfully it looks like time is the main thing for healing so I just have to figure out how to stay sane while not being able to skate or do and lower body workouts. All suggestions are welcome lol 🫠. I'll be more diet focused in general but I've got to keep my body moving somehow.

Oh no! Damn that sounds painful and like it'll suck overall in so so sorry. To keep moving? Yikes I guess depends on what you're allowed to do and how much pain you're in.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Maybe an arm cycle will help you get your heart rate up a little? Probably not comparatively to skating but adds a little to your cardio.

I also hope this time will fly by and you’ll be back at it before you know it.

Probably mostly upper body. My coach said I can still do some off skate stuff at practice if I'm up to it so I'm going to give that a shot next week.

Thank you! That's a great idea!

I’m sorry to hear that you got that news but I’m so glad you went to see the orthopedic doctor. My friend fractured her tailbone on one of those super steep waterslides and was told to do certain stretches to help her recover. I remember one was the “cat-cow” pose. Basically you’re on all fours and you arch your back up like a cat hissing, and then let your back sag down .. like a cow? Idk why that’s a cow, but anyway, that’s what it’s called. :) There were a few more that I can’t remember now but they seemed to help her recover. She also had a pillow that she brought with her to sit on for a while.

This too shall pass, but for now it really stinks. Take care of yourself. Hugs 🫂

Oh yes, I have a donut to sit on. It's a new accessory 🙃. Thank you, I have my moments, but I'm mostly doing fine. I really miss skating but I know I'll get back at it. My coach offered to show me some off skate things I can do at practices until I'm able to skate again.

On a positive note, I heard from the coach of the league in the town we are moving to and they are ready to have me skate with them when I get there.

Silver linings! 🩶

Silver linings are EVERYTHING ...... You've got this!

It was suggested I come post over here...
I jog on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays on a treadmill. Sometimes it's for speed and distance, sometimes with weights and varying inclines.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are for ICF/weight lifting.

I saw 'Ice Cream Fitness and got way too enthusiastic about the possibilities 🙃

I have been active on many online forums - tech, cars, motorcycles, investments, etc. My experience has for the most part been positive. There is always some dufus on any forum who will start some shit that will eventually get political and spiral out. But I have made some amazing connections, especially in the car and motorcycle communities. A few of those have turned into long lasting friendships.
Lit is very different though as I see people sharing details that are at a more personal and intimate level. It's quite a different experience for me so far than the other communities.
