Well while I find interactive stories pretty cool, interactive stories are not roleplay, where you are playing a game in a sense, with another person. They are two different things and you cannot really do the same things in interactive stories. I also don't see a good enough motivation to completely switch over how I roleplay if a simple character limitation can be increased. If it cannot be increased without causing more trouble than it is worth then I'll adapt. But this is the forum to leave comments and suggestions, as far as I understand, so I'm voicing my suggestions on what I as a user would like in the site, if it's a possibility.

This, all of it. I haven’t hit the 10k char limit yet but I’ve not tried to make a long rp post yet since the upgrade. I would not want to divide up my posts. I too would ask is it possible to lift this restriction. Thank you.

Yeah, I would love for the character limit in the Sexual RP and Online RP forums to be increased as well. Sure, it's not a major inconvenience to divide my posts into two portions, but an inconvenience it remains. I'm not entirely sure why the restriction was implemented anyway, or even if it was meant as a restriction. Perhaps the website simply needed a specific allowance amount and 10,000 characters sounded like a good amount at the time. Now that we know what that looks like though, it'd be great if there was an adjustment made .

Yeah, but you could break that 10,000+ post into two if you really wanted to. And I would only expect 10,000 or more characters in the story section. Posts are supposed to be short. If you can't get your point across in less than 10,000 characters, there's something wrong. Even in the role play forum. Just be glad that they don't cut it back to 140 characters.

The 10K character limit is likely an XF limitation because this IS a discussion forum software package. Perhaps it could be changed only within the RP sections?

Personally, I'd rather see posts in the main forum sections cut to something like 500 words. As I'm reading a thread, if I see a post with more than two or three short paragraphs, I skip over it all.

Wish List so far:

• Address cropping of Avatars.
• Disable display of posted images.
• Adjust Sort Order to Newest First for those that want it.
• Display Profile Pictures from Story Side
• List/display previously uploaded Attachments for access, deletion and reuse. (See above for XF Mod link)
• There was a mention above about VBB having a paperclip icon that when clicked would display all images and attachments posted to a thread.
• There was also a way to see all the IDs of members who had posted to a given thread, the number opf their posts within that thread and to display only their posts within that thread. Useful when searching for a specific post that didn't come up in other searches.
• Enable Polls
• Consider increasing character count limit in RP sections.

I would be super happy and appreciative if it was just an increase in the rp sections and story sections, if it isn't already, because I feel like that's where it would be used the most honestly. It was a general discussion on issues or something, and the message needed to be lengthy, I imagine an email would suffice better.

I totally get the want to not want to read a long drawn out post if you're just in general discussions, but when it comes to role-playing, some of us users really love going into a lot of description in our post before we set it up for the next person to react or continue.

Sometimes you want to paint the scene, add in a ton of naughty details, and get your characters motivations, thoughts, feelings, and actions in before you post it and have the next person react to that. And that's not even counting if you have a world built up in which you have more than one or two characters interacting in each post.

For example, I just did a post with four characters and hit the limit because I needed to set the scene and write their dialogue and actions. I imagine this is a bit confusing if you are not used to story telling/roleplay, but without doing this properly, it can be jarring and force you to limit the actions and flow just to not hit that limit. And while yes, I can split a post up into multiple pieces, it's still an inconvenience and something I usually reserve for an artistic expression of what I'm trying to accomplish. Otherwise I wouldn't really have any issue at all with this.

How does it hurt you if people write long texts in a forum you don't frequent?

You're as free to scroll past a post longer than you care to read as you are with every other post and thread and forum you aren't interested in here. I have trouble imagining anyone was upset about the previous character limit which was obviously over 10,000, given that this post of mine from 2013 was over 11,800 characters. Not only was it no more notable for it's length than any other post in that thread, it wasn't even the longest one - someone else was over 12,400 characters two posts later. Two posts after that was 12,800. No one took any note of how many characters any of them were, because it wasn't a deterrent for the people reading or writing it.

It's what I've done thus far, but it's.. less than elegant. You tell me which looks better, this or this and this? It also means if you're using the reply box to type your post, then you have to cut it in half or thirds or whatever when you get the error and hope you don't lose anything in the process. There is not, as far as I am aware, a reason for it other than it wasn't changed from the default when they set things up.

But hey, I appreciate finding out there's "something wrong" because I enjoy writing and reading longer posts.

It's not an XF limitation, it's just the XF default. They just have to go to Admin CP > Options > Messages and change it.

You're perfectly free to skip over it whether it's 10,000 or 20,000 characters. I don't know why scrolling for half a second more means other people should be limited.

And 4 lines of standard text in height + a single image regardless of size + an absurdly low character count ( including hyperlinks ) is excessive?

The current limits take up less space than the blank space under your post. Unless something has changed since I messed with mine, anyway. Anything more than that is a legacy sig that managed to survive the transition, and cannot be edited without conforming to the new limitations.

With all due respect it is not your place to tell someone how to write, what to write or what length of post can convey what it is they want. You might like brief responses but some of us really enjoy other forms of writing that maybe do actually run well over 10,000 characters.

Maybe he was trying to be helpful, but it did not read like constructive advice.

I don't think there was ever any guidelines in the site saying this, or even suggesting it, especially in an rp section where creativity is in the authors hands.

Again, creativity. And character count is not word count, that's only counting how many letters and symbols, which add up very quickly. Also, RP is not "getting a point across" in that particular sense. It's story telling. You don't tell an author that they have to write their story within a certain amount of chapters.

Well, no, I would say especially in a roleplay forum.

All of this just seems so very baffling as to why this bothers everyone so much. If you don't want to read or participate in long threads, you don't have to. And again, I would understand if this were some monumental task to change the character limit, but it does not seem like it. If it's not causing and insane amount of work, or more site issues, then why is it such an issue to ask for the character limit to basically just be changed back to what it already was? I never saw anyone complaining about this before, why has it become such an issue now?

Editing to add one more thing:

The "system" gets fixed and adjusted all the time. So that in particular as well doesn't make sense to me.

I was addressing his comment in particular. And yes he was, as I quoted and as others have quoted. He told people write less and change how they post.

There are ways of making suggestions and then there are snide ways of talking to people who don't do what you think they should, the words and tones of his post conveyed the latter and not the former.

No complaint or suggestion, but want to say I am loving the new ignore feature. In the past if someone quoted someone you were ignoring you'd end up seeing the post then be tempted to respond. Now all you see in a quote is that you're ignoring that person. I like to, that you don't even see their name listed on the thread, only way you can tell someone you ignore posted is if you follow the numbers and see one skipped.

There is a limit on the number of characters in a sig, yet I don't know if that still includes the bbcode that was necessary to get them to work on the old system. Although huge pictures are bothersome.

And I don't do collaborative role play writing on twitter for a multitude of reasons. The argument of twitter is ridiculous as few posts in any category aside from PG games would fit into the 140 characters or less limitation.
