This is not easy… well ya can’t go wrong with the Kinks. The guitar solo around the one 1:20 mark always makes me lose my fucking mind. It’s exactly what rock ‘n’ roll is all about, being young, being in love, being misunderstood and having great energy.

There were several options, but really only one real choice. First album I owned (Live Killers), one of the first concerts, and I wanted to grow my hair like Brian May (that never happened).

Saw them twice live, and they were incredible. This is an earlier recording, before the massive light rigs and show, but it encapsulates how good they were live. Not a song that gets any air play but a lot of respect from other musicians. Metallica covered it, but there is no substitute.

The first three Police albums are just gold. I love the early punkier stuff, and this is arguably (well, arguing with my self) my favorite.

This is definitely The Beatles, especially if you include their solo efforts. You could choose any song, so I decided to go with what I think is an underrated effort. Some of Paul's best work but many of his other hits of this type will get mentioned first. Plus an incredible french horn solo for @StacyLeigh.

I have to go with my girl, Neko Case. I’ve been a huge fan since i first heard her almost 25 years ago. I’ve also seen her live more than any other artist and she sounds exactly like she does on her albums. In fact, I just bought tickets to see her in Vancouver in November
This isn’t just a girl crush; it’s a full blown love affair (one-sided of course).

Enya is by far the most played artist on my Spotify account. And this song is definitely the most played. I dubbed thee "Now go the fuck to sleep" song. It's the first song on the entry playlist I put on in the girls room to help them wind down for bed. We've been playing this from the moment they entered the world. She's the lullaby in our lives. We sleep pretty well because of her.

I hate a few of their songs but what I love, I return to over and over again. And I've followed their solo careers, which haven't been bad. In fact, Kim Gordon has been astonishing. Love her endless experimentation in pop and art.

Peter Gabriel with Paula Cole, "Don't Give Up"

We all know that the original recording with Kate Bush is beautiful. I like this one even better. Paula Cole was only about 25 years old when she got a cold call from Peter Gabriel asking her to jump in to his Secret World tour, replacing Sinéad O'Connor. According to Wikipedia, this video was shot only a few days after she joined the tour. Imagine being a young unknown thrust onto stage to perform a universally loved song (and many others in the concert) alongside one of the great innovators of modern music. And she nails it. Listen to that exquisite phrasing in her final solo, including the 'we're proud of who you are' at around 4:50. And the band is of course, exceptional.
