What's your favorite warm and cozy soup or stew for the cold weather months??

I love soup & stew! My favs: Middle Eastern red lentil soup with fresh bread and my mother’s escarole soup with fresh popovers

Apple parsnip soup, either thyme or cinnamon seasoned. It's fucking godly for the simple ingredients it has.

I love soup and stew weather! Every year I make a lot of different ones, but my favorite is fish chowder. I'll make a vat of that once and freeze individual portions so I can have it all winter long (I do that with a lot of my soups and chowders).

Happy November!

Do you like people coming to your defense? Do you expect it? Or do you prefer to handle or ignore situations in your own way? Does this change online vs "real" life? Do like to come to the defense of others? Do you feel loyalty when you defend or are defended?

Nope, I don't much feel a need for others to defend me here or elsewhere.

I'm also more hesitant to speak up for or defend someone online now as it can be so uncertain. But I have and will continue to defend people that I know in R/L being subjected to gossip, rumor, and innuendo.

Soup? Vegetable, hamburger, split pea, or bean. Stew? Chicken or beef stew, but my hand's down anytime go-to is homemade chili con carne.

This is my favorite time of year! Veggie chili forever. We have a five bean chili that i enjoy making and a butternut squash chili that is delicious! of course each chili deserves all of the spices and flavors we can add and as much jalapeno and other delicious additions as we can tolerate.

I could bathe in French Onion soup this time of year. Mmm

It's also the perfect time of year for taco soup and vegetable beef.

Beef barley soup.

Braised short rib, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and roasted Brussels sprouts with pancetta

What's something you're working to improve in yourself? Inside or out?

Oh, geez, where do I start? I'd say the two I'm most working on right now are getting into something of an exercise habit again and being able to set boundaries for myself.

What's something you're working to improve in yourself? Inside or out?

Oh boy.

OK, personality attributes that need work:
Patience.
Compassion.
Communication.
Understanding there are a lot points of view where, even if I may sincerely think I understand them, I do not.
I want to not procrastinate so much, and I want to not hesitate so much (different, but connected).

Skills/knowledge/physical abilities:
My ability to communicate in German. This goes alongside patience, big time.
My overall fitness (can be broken down, but too boring to do that here).
I'm curious about the world, but god damn am I ignorant about it - lots of broad general knowledge to work on here.

There are probably a fuckton more, but that'll do off the top of my head.

You reminded me. Become more global in my thoughts and actions. Keep open minded.

Also, motivation. I’m not super ambitious.

I don't think there's anything wrong with not being ambitious. I think especially US culture tells us that we have to always be striving for more, higher, etc. but I don't see why we can't just find a place we like and stay there doing our best.

<does some stretches and warm up exercises> Let's' see if I remember how to do this?

How does someone earn your trust? How does someone prove they are trustworthy? Is it possible for someone to earn your trust back after they've lost it?

Yay, welcome back! I missed these!

I think I rely on my intuition a little too much when trusting people... I'd be better off relying on that but also paying attention to how their words & actions line up with my intuition. But that said, I don't really trust easily - to get that, someone needs to show me that they're genuinely invested in me as a person, that they want to know me.

I've only had one person really betray my trust & she's never tried to get it back, so I'm not sure if it's possible or what it would take.

Good to see you. Believe it or not....you make this place special...and it isn't as complete when you are gone.

Trust...a tough one huh? I have expectations. They must be met. I will no longer lower my expectations just so someone is within my circle of friendship. I can trust my dog....if I can trust her....why should I not be able to trust my friends?

How is it earned? It varies. But it starts with my observations. I trust in me to see objectively. Is what I see morally similar to me? I trust you...until I don’t. I don't need proof of your trust to trust you. I need honesty. See, friends don't need to blindly support my beliefs or my behavior. They need to be able to be honest in their behaviors. If they blindly support me....it is a red flag they are not trustworthy. My parents were....are...like this. I am a good boy as long as they approve. If they don’t...then their love is withheld. There can never be trust there. But they are still my parents.

Can people earn trust back? Sure....but it is rare. Am I important enough for them to do it? Am I willing enough to risk being hurt again? I was a lot more forgiving than I am now. My instincts are damn good. I just need to learn to listen to them.

It is simple really....are you vaccinated? Boosted? Do you wear a mask in public? I trust you. Cause you understand and care about those around you. You do not put your personal freedoms over the rights of others. You are worthy of my trust.

Yes, this is my first rule in deal-breakers. I then go on to my second and third rules. If you pass those, you are still worthy of my trust. If you can't pass those rules....no matter what you do....you have shown to me we are not morally compatible and there is nothing you can do to make me trust you.

do what you say you’re going to do; be who you say you are. trust is truth. once broken, it is very difficult to regain. but it can be done.

I think proving you're a trustworthy person comes before earning my trust. One opens the door for the other.. If you are quick to tell me other people's business and secrets, I assume you will do the same for mine. If you have a history of breaking trust (stealing, lying, cheating - whatever you're talking about), then why would I assume you will treat my trust differently.

I personally think about this question in terms of can I trust you with me, more than can I trust what you'll do. So, when I know you've been in a position to tell my secrets ("secrets" sounds ominous but I just mean my personal information that is not yours to tell) and you don't say anything, that's a huge green flag of trust.

I think I may forgive a bit easily with breeches of trust or at least I have in the past. I've learned my lesson on that. Finding a balance between just shutting everyone out and being more careful is something I'm working on.

(P.S. My favorite way to be trustworthy myself is just pretend I know nothing about anything. If someone comes to me asking about your shoes, I'll act surprised you even had feet. I didn't hear anything or see anyone. 😇)

As a CPA I know lots of personal info. You just don't share, period.

I do tend to share my personal financial info with other professionals. We see so much of it that we are pretty comfortable sharing our own. Probably also helps in keeping client info secret.

What's the weirdest non-breakfasty food that you've eaten for breakfast?

Out of context...trout.

Context...I was still 3 days out and had sorely underestimated my intake, chipping away at my backpack stores. I hadn't really eaten well the last two days. I was still tired...so I sat by the lake and pondered my predicament and saw them feeding. Nah....no way I could catch them. But I did carry monofilament and a hook.

Best
breakfast
ever.
