It definitely doesn’t always signal something more. Usually it doesn’t. It’s fun just to flirt.

Do you have friends that you know are just flirty friends and that you both know will never be more than that? Is this just an implicit knowledge or have you had an actual conversation?

I love flirty friends! I have had the explicit conversation to clarify that the flirtation is just that when I think it’s warranted. Otherwise I think it’s mostly implicit.
IRL, my best friend’s husband is very flirty with me. I would NEVER cross that line (even if I’ve thought about it ). And I think, as much as he wishes he could finagle a threesome, we’ve got a pretty solid understanding that it’s just fun to be playful.

How can someone tell the difference in your fun flirts and your intentional flirts? Have you ever gotten carried away with a stream of flirtation? How did that end up??

Excellent question. Not sure. At a certain point if it has not become more of something then I think you need to be clear and implicit.

For me flirting is always the goal in itself. Almost everyone I flirt hard with knows that it is all it is. Some of them I’ve had the conversation with. Some I haven’t. I’m usually okay at reading a room.

I don’t know that I have a tell. I think if I’m interested in someone as more than a friend it comes through in conversation more than banter. But you’d have to ask them.

I don’t know that I’ve gotten carried away. A couple of times I’ve gotten concerned that the other person might be taking it more seriously than I was. And I’ll usually just ask and clarify if that’s the case .

I like to flirt. I don't think I'm good at it at all. I don't recognise it in others. I think I can appear uninterested and get friend zoned very quickly. But that is masking an horrendous shyness at times.

Yes, yes, and yes! What’s not to love about it? Other than some specific work situations or with family, I think flirting makes most interactions more fun.

I think I like all of them in their own way. Variety is one of my favorite things.

I flirt because it’s fun and I have a genuine appreciation for the other person (or people) involved. It’s rarely flirting with a specific intent. It’s a sign that I genuinely enjoy someone and find them delightful. It could be platonic, romantic, sexual, or any combination. The intent is to engage the people I enjoy in a pleasurable manner.

I have friends I think are in that camp, but I have been pleasantly surprised and sometimes even shocked when it took a less platonic turn. I’m not an oracle so I don’t pretend even to myself I know all the things or what’s going to happen. I mostly just enjoy the ride

The only time I have a conversation is if I think things are going in a problematic direction. That could mean someone is getting one sided, deep feelings or it could be that I think I might have said something that came across differently than I intended. I’m a communicator, so when in doubt (on my end), I’ll say something.

How can someone tell the difference in your fun flirts and your intentional flirts?

They’re all intentional flirts, so it’s probably hard to tell on the surface. If we start talking privately, I think it’s usually easier to distinguish just by the frequency of the communication and content. It’s not hard to notice if the banter, flirting, and escalating is equally shared or more one sided.

Have you ever gotten carried away with a stream of flirtation? How did that end up??

I don’t think I have online. I can think of two times offline when I was younger, a little more oblivious, and didn’t realize there were genuine feelings on the other side that I should have been more careful with. I like to think I’m more aware now.

It was late 80s, early 90s. The side part had become a crazy hip-hop fad.

The Brothers in my unit would always compliment my part.

I have 2, probably 3 scars.

The first is a scar on my left index finger, from a particularly vicious cat claw when I was 4 or 5 years old. That old orange tabby was mean and violent and his claws dug deep.
The second is a scar on my abdomen from getting my appendix removed when I was 6. Not much of a story there.
The probable third is from my vasectomy. But it's hard to tell if there's actually a scar there among all the hair and wrinkles of the scrotum.

I hear that scars can be a turn-on for some women. I can only imagine that's doubly true for scars on a hairy, wrinkly ballsack. He said, enticingly.

Like MLAS, my biggest scar is from 2 c-sections. I have a scar across one eyebrow, not that noticeable, from a childhood 'jumping on a bed like a trampoline and diving head first off into a plastic toy' injury.

I have a weird lump on the inside of my right calf, from a mosquito bite gone weird when I went to the carribean.

And I have a weird double scar on my knee from when I fell up some stairs and knelt into the gripper rods for the carpet that hadn't been laid yet.
