🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

Oh! I have another question

I would like to make a smoothie or some sort in the morning to take with me to work for lunch. In the past, I’ve thrown together yogurt, spinach, and banana and that’s been fine but I’m wondering what other smoothie recipes you’ve tried. I know nothing about protein powders or other additives; any advice would be appreciated.

Let’s talk about schedules and workout management

Are you a workout “schedule” person? Do you use a calendar? An app? Something else?

Do you keep track of your workouts? If so, why? What are you looking for? Do you review the data you’ve collected? What patterns have you noticed?

Does your workout schedule change at different parts of the year? What are some tendencies as far as times of the year you’re really dedicated, vs times where it’s harder to maintain that motivation?

I’m staring down the end of summer and the start of the school year, so it’s always a good time for me to reconsider what I’m doing, and what I can do better. I’d love to get your perspective and how you manage your time. Thanks in advance :)

I’d say I follow a schedule as much as possible. Feels like when I do this, I’ll make it a priority and show up. Working out hasn’t really ever been a problem for me, the getting to the front door has. Once I’m there, muscle memory takes over.

I do track my workouts. Why? For me it’s mostly: accountability, progress monitoring, and it helps me set REALISTIC new goals. I use the Strong Workout tracking app. Works well on iPhone & Apple Watch.

I train the same throughout the year most of the time. Twice a year I have to take a PT Test and complete an agility course for work, so I will train a little harder 6 to 8 weeks before.

I kept track of my workouts for years in bound notebooks. I found them extremely helpful and motivating because I was able to see evidence of my progress. My favorite part was that I could break personal records at every workout. (“Last month I was able to do seven reps with this weight, and today eight reps. Woo-hoo!” (So much more frequently than setting a new one-rep-max PR))

About two years ago I started using an online community using the BodySpace app from bodybuilding dot com. Since I lift at home, I found it helpful to follow a few people for motivation, share progress pictures, etc.

That app has become glitchy, so many of my friends moved to the Wyse app (also free) and I tracked my workouts in both places for several months.

About a month and a half ago, I started working with a real bodybuilding coach. He is sending me the workouts via an app called True Coach (also free to me as a client). Good tracking, but I still use the other two apps to follow my friends and post pictures occasionally.

Best wishes to you!!!

I use an app when I'm working through a challenge that I've downloaded through an app. Currently I'm working through a 21 day toning challenge through Asana Rebel. Otherwise I don't really track my workouts aside from what my Garmin watch collects for mileage.

I don't track them for anything in particular. I like to take progress pics though, those are motivating to me.

Yes, during spring, summer and Fall I try to workout outside as much as possible through rollerblading, kayaking, swimming, etc. I'll fill in gaps with something like the current challenge I'm working on. It's harder for me to maintain when it gets darker sooner outside because I don't have the motivation and want to go to bed at 7pm lol.

I love making smoothies in the summer and have been on a kick lately. I'll buy bags of prepackaged fruit for smoothies in the frozen food section of the grocery store then add a collagen powder for protein and powdered greens if I don't have anything fresh, and coconut milk. Sometimes instead of collagen I'll use a vanilla or chocolate protein powder by Earth Chimp. I don't like whey protein so have gone the vegan route with that and really like it.

I don't really write out a calendar or use a scheduling app, but I do actively think about how I will fit in my runs at the beginning of the week. It helps me a ton and I've stayed far more on track since actively planning my times/days.

I use Strava because mostly I'm biking or running. I mostly do it to track my KM, but it's nice to see my progress (or lack thereof), too. Plus I like an active measure of my pace, even if it's not perfect in the moment.

My schedule definitely changes during the year (Canadian winters, yo). I play different sports in the winter, as well, so I might need less rest between runs. But spring and fall are easier to be motivated, the weather is just best for outdoor activity.

I find the plan isn't just good for sticking with it, but also the impact on body. I don't have the knees to run the day after soccer. 😂

Covid was actually great for me because I was home more and had the time to cook and work out. Then the last year and a half were brutal with crazy life stuff and most of my good habits went by the wayside. I’m back at home now and looking forward to being healthier because it makes me feel better…although I often wish sitting in my hammock and reading while eating delicious food was what made me feel my best 😂

So right now, I’m focusing on cooking at home and not eating out as much as well as getting back to only drinking water 99% of the time. Daily rowing will be my next thing.
This is kinda where I'm at too. Focusing a lot more on eating at home and not Doordashing every other meal. I definitely feel better when I don't pig out. Covid was actually pretty bad for me in that it ruined my gym routine and threw me back into some bad habits. Even three years later I'm still trying to snap out of it. But I'm doing better for sure.

The next step is getting the fuck back to the fucking gym.

I am personally a huge fan of both:

Asana Rebel and FitOn.

... Usually I spend about.. 10+ hours working out a week.
Right now, I am in the forest and not near my gym, FitOn has been a more than solid workout partner.

There is a calendar, many different workouts, different trainers, and it will even track how many calories you burn.

❤️

Oh awesome, I will look at that one too. I just quit my gym. I think I’ve been a member of every gym in my area at one point or another. 🙄. I need to find a better fit for me. So, having an app I can rely on to use without it a formal gym setting will be so helpful. Thank you @Cat 🌸

We only have a couple days left of July, and then August will be here. I got a message from someone (his name rhymes with SteerPlace) and he had a great suggestion. Since we are on the cusp of a new month, maybe it would be a good time to start a month long challenge.
giphy.gif

I love this idea. I never think of these things in time to plan ahead, so I really appreciated the nudge.
I need some help though. I’m going to put together a daily challenge for each day of August. I want to vary the activities though so that everyone can do at least some of them. I’m thinking of including step challenges, cardio, strength training, HIIT, and even some recipes and mindfulness activities too.
If you have an idea or two that you think would be good to include in this month long challenge, please message me by Monday, and I will try to incorporate them.

Thanks for playing along!

Heading out for a nice afternoon hike today. Gotta burn some calories and might as well enjoy some beautiful weather and scenery while I’m at it! ☀️ 🌳 ⛅

You must be somewhere where it’s not blazing hot. We have a weather advisory here bc it’s so hot out and the air quality is bad.

When you (this is for anyone to answer) have to stay indoors to exercise when you normally go outside, what do you do?

We finally cooled off today after heat advisory’s all week. 🔥

Still try and find ways to go outside. 😂

But I have a small workout circuit of body weight activities I’ll do sometimes or jump on the bike inside or the treadmill(don’t have one currently). I used to just go to the gym but haven’t had my membership in a while. That’s especially helpful in the winter here.

Great workout today... My typical chest and biceps split with 15 intense minutes on the assault bike! 😓🥵. Loving the gym in this crazy heat as I'm able to get a nice pump without dying in the heat.
