1-Bombing on Loving Wives

Hi All,

So my first story in the Loving Wives category published last night (I'm UK based). Woke up this morning to find it 1*'d to hell.
Angry at first, thinking it was personal. But then I looked at the other new stories published in the Loving Wives category and they'd mostly experienced the same fate.

I'm probably just looking vent - but seriously, is this the norm?! It just renders the whole process really rather pointless.

Anyway, happy Friday. Stay safe whatever you get up to.

Which story is it? I may have missed it

LOL it’s like you can only repeat the same BS over and over again, despite the many, many counter-examples.
Counter-examples aren’t the whole story either. What was said doesn’t invalidate counter-examples, but you seem to think counter-examples invalidate what was said about a portion of readers.

Oh no, not at all. There’s a subset of the readership that is VERY toxic. I’ve never disputed that. What I’m saying is that the way to success there is not misogyny and violence. There’s someone writing in there right now that’s regularly trying that, and he’s basically hitting the same scores as the poorly written cuckolding stories, I.e. 2.5-3.5 star range.

The way to do well there is engaging, grounded stories with heart. Or at least A way to do well there. But violent BTBs? No.

Just read it and gave it a 5. Waiting to see where it goes from here. You could take it several directions.

If Jesse is married to Sam, and Jesse has sex with Alex, and Jesse and Alex both enthusiastically consent, you'd put it in R/NC because Sam doesn't? I don't think that would go over well.

Even if all the sex in it is one-on-one? I'm pretty sure the Group Sex category expects to see groups of people going at it.

1. Yes. If the story is about your character 'Sam' being coerced into cuckoldry by his partner but 'Sam' reluctantly tolerates it because the only other option is for example... a nasty divorce leaving him with little to nothing, then yes. Reluctant/Non-Consent.

2. No. I would not put a story where all the sex is one-on-one into Group Sex. But I would put Swinger stories into Group Sex.
So you care more about getting a positive reaction than you do about being read by (way) more eyes.

At this point, I've seen enough of you to know that you absolutely thrive off aggressively arguing with people on here, but if you can point to the section of my two previous comments where I claim I care more about getting a positive reaction than I do about being read by (way) more eyes, I'll entertain the idea of responding to your question. But just to warn you ahead of time, I won't be defending the strawman you're attempting to craft and set on fire, I'll just be clarifying my position until there's nothing left for you to misconstrue. So if you wanna play this stupid game, let's get it over with. I got some time.

What strawman? I already quoted you in my last post, but here it is again.

Personally, I consider the LW the "Mean-Spirited/Angry Revenge" category.

So if I write a story about Loving Wives/Husbands, it going in Erotic Couples or Romance.

If I write a story about consensual and happy Cuckoldry, it's going in Fetish.

if I write a story about Cheating Partners/Unhappy Cuckoldry, it's going in Reluctanct/Non-Consent.

If I write a story about Swingers, it's going in Group Sex.

If you post an LW story in EC or Romance, you will get a better score (unless it has cheating in the Romance, and even then it might get a better score) but it will get far less eyeballs than in LW. You obviously choose score/reaction over exposure. It's the only reason why you would not put an LW story in LW (especially if you would choose the EC graveyard).

If you post a cuckold story in fetish, you will get a better score because the BtBs won't find you, but you will get FAR less readers, especially when your target audience (cuckolds) are looking in LW, come on.

If you post unhappy cuckoldry in non-con, you will probably still get a low score because there's no non-con, but you will definitely get lower readership.

If you post a story with only 1-on-1 swinger sex in group, you will probably still get a low score because there is no group sex but again, will definitely get lower readership.

And even without all of these examples, if you are avoiding the second highest traffic category on lit (!!!) just to avoid trolls, that's all the evidence that anyone needs t prove that you are writing for applause/scores/feedback more than eyeballs. That is BLATANTLY protecting your scores and comments. This is slam dunk damning evidence. I'm not assuming anything. You're telling all of us your true motivations.

I'm still waiting for you to show me where I said I care more about higher scores than I do about viewership.

Point to the part where I specifically said I refuse to post in Loving Wives because I want a better score. If you can find where I said that, I have a nice surprise for you.

[EDIT!]

I just thought of a way to get through this extremely fast. Just ask me "Do you care more about a high rating than you do about viewership?" and than I can answer, "No." Then you can ask me "Why won't you post in Loving Wives then, Huh?!" and I can answer, "Because I consider it the Mean-Spirited/Angry Revenge category."

Too many care more about views, scores, ratings, comments and other such nonsense than they do about telling their stories.

"I just thought of a way to get through this extremely fast. Just ask ... "

... if there were no tallied views, scores or ratings and comments were not allowed, which category would you choose for your story?

Ive published a grand total of one time in LW and to date it's still my lowest rated story.

I had another one that technically could have qualified for LW but I knew readers there would destroy it because... GASP! IDIGNANT OUTRAGE!... the husband and wife consentually engaged in extra marital sex with other people without negative consequences!

Obviously you're not alone, we've all been trashed in that category.

I will have a new 750 word story published in the next few days to LW. And I'll be interested to see if they get it this time, but I won't count on it lol

So then ... to avoid the mean spirited trolls. You give up readership for friendlier feedback and scores. There is no other reason. Your argument is just saying, "I hate Antarctica but it has nothing to do with the ice and snow, I just don't like the climate, so nyaa, I never specifically said 'ice and snow, haha!" It's the argument of a six year old. Just how dumb do you think I (or anyone else in this thread for that matter) am to take you seriously at this point? There are a fair amount of immature posts on this forum and yours ranks right up there.

When I choose which category to publish my stories in, I'm not making that decision based on what will get me the most views or the highest ratings or the most comments.

Let me ask you a genuine question. Not some "Here's what I say you think in the form of a hypothetical question."

Do you think I think what you think I think because you think I'm lying when I say I don't think *what you're saying I think? Or do you think I think what you think I think because you think you understand me on a deeper level than I understand myself?

I think too many people think too much about what other people think they think.

The readers there, most of them, are really not interested in a story about a wife enjoying hot sex. They don't mind that, but the story can't be about that if you want a high score. It needs to be about the drama around a wife having hot sex. How does her husband feel about that? How are the situations surrounding extramarital sex resolved? That is the story they want.

Most people, me included, just assume you can post a story over there about hot sex and the people who like hot sex stories will love it as much as the people did over in EC, or Romance. That is a false assumption. You may not think it should be that way, but it is. Trust me, I know.

Which is exactly why I didn't publish my swingers story, Go For Two, there.

The story is about a married couple who pick up two strangers, one guy, one woman, and take them home to fuck.

Technically, the story would fit in LW because the wife indeed is fucking another man, right in front of her husband.

But I also understood by then: my story wasn't the kind the LW audience wants.

There's no negative consequences. The husband approves of his wife fucking this strange man even as he's fucking a strange woman.

After, the husband takes his wife back and fucks her while the two strangers fuck.

The party ends, everyone is happy, it was a good time. The end.

It would have failed miserably in LW. More readers? Sure, probably. But I don't WANT readers who are just there to hate read.

I published in Group Sex instead, and it did just fine there.

It's in the LW new section. It can take a day or two before new stories are added to an author's profile page.
I've found that it usually shows up in the alphabetical listing first, then you just have to search for the current date. That's how I found this story.

I absolutely agree with this. I'm sure that you can get a great score with a violent BTB, but it's absolutely not necessary to do that. Exactly as NTH said - tell an engaging, grounded story with heart. You will find that the great majority of LW readers do have hearts. Even the cynical, bitter ones who are still upset about what happened to them personally can be moved by a good story. @PennyThompson's reflections on our recent joint effort (now up to 216 comments, thank you!) also discuss the motivated and carefully considered nature of the comments - you won't get those in response to a basic BTB.

Returning to the problem of 1-bombing, another terrilbe aspect of LW stories are the low star ratings. Your story can be very well written and actually be great story, but the 1 bombers reduce it to a 3.xx or 2.xx rating. What reader is going to want to read low rated stories? I've temporarily tried turning star voting off. It seems to help, but it further upsets the 1 bombers.

If the 2 or 3 star story is by an author that I follow or have read before I'll give it a chance. Some of most well written stories on this site are under 4 stars :)
