1st Birthday Ideas/Tips?

Well, we decided to have the kidlet party at his playgroup. It was a St. Patrick's party day anyway, so we brought some homemade cupcakes. My husband, mom and the boy's great grandma (who was visiting from the East Coast) came, and we all sang Happy Birthday to him near the end. It turned out to be great.

Yesterday morning my in-laws came to pick up Grandma, so he got to open some presents (umm...tear and eat the paper) and we did some pics on his birthday proper.

Tomorrow afternoon we're having some family and neighbors over for cake and pics. I'll go get a cake at Costco today for the guests; I ended up making the munchkin his own mini-loaf-sized cake when I made the cupcakes. I might grab some balloons to hang at the dollar store. It should be super easy and fun.

Between having company and everything else, this just happened to work best for us. We have plenty of parties to go, and we'll do a little more when he's old enough to participate and remember. And, really, when he's young, it's more fun for him to have mini-celebrations throughout the week because he's fresh for each one, then gets tuckered out by the different people and experiences (then again, I've always liked to do the same thing for my own birthday).

Re 1st Birthday

Hi SweetErika,
I realize this thread is all but finished
Just wanted add that my eldest son on his 1st B/day burnt his hand on the candle on the cake, luckily wasn't serious was more from the wax than the flame, after cold water then an ice cube for a few minutes at a time a few times (he was fascinated with the cube of ice) and a breast feed and cuddles he was fine (no marks next day)
Yes the cake was within his reach and we were all at the table with him , his mum and myself on either side for photos, what we didn't think of or expect was for for him to put his hand out and down onto the candle (hand flat palm facing downwards, contact was center of palm)

Cheers Andrew frntlader

That's a good point, and something we'll definitely be extra careful of tomorrow. :)
