2008 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

I agree about the public comments; on a couple of my stories, I've found new comments a week or so after they were posted. This is a really clueless question on my part, but how do you respond to them? Email the person? (Which is, of course, impossible if it's an anonymous comment, as at least half of mine seem to be...)

Erin- how's your last week of "freedom" going? Hope you're getting a lot written!

You can't respond to anonymous ones, unless they add an email addy to the comment (rare, but it does happen). If they are members, you can PM them.

On about two occasions, I have added a comment myself answering something that was said by anon, because I thought it was warranted. I don't know how else you could do this if there is no handle and no email addy, unless you recognize something as being from a regular correspondent.

I've done that, if they asked a direct question... I did respond foolishly to a LW story I did after about 100 comments... *snerk*... that was a mistake.

I've given up on trying to keep track of comments past the first week or so... too many stories to wade through. (and if you keep doing Survivor, you'll find you have the same issue eventually!)

I would LOVE to be able to "subscribe" to comments or something, when it comes to stories. That would be a great feature.

I rarely respond by questions asked by any mouse. One time, somebody asked me for advice about something, and I felt he really deserved an answer, so I gave him one as best I could. The other time, several any mouses had asked about a sequel so I said there would be one. I think those are the only two times I have done that. :)

Most questions don't deserve an answer. If somebody asks: "How can you say such a stupid thing?" I don't answer.

I've gotten a few really nice comments from anonymouses, to which I'd like to respond but I guess I'm out of luck. I probably should start responding to the ones to which I can respond, though.

I didn't bother responding to the negative comments on my LW story, just deleted the really nasty ones, and then got a run of public comments and email feedbacks along the lines of "This is a really good story, don't worry about the idiots." Chapter 2 of that story will be up within the next few days; it'll be interesting to see what kind of feedback I get on that one. That's ultimately going to be a 10-chapter story, so the trolls will have plenty of bashing opportunity. lol

Erin, hugs... hope things are getting better for you!

.........
I check every day to see if I have new comments but I know I miss some. If they have an account I send them a pm although most of them don't have private messaging enabled. Of course I have my anonymous feedback go to my regular email account and I don't want to respond through there so probably look like I'm ignoring the readers who leave me comments.

Erin, if you don't want to use your usual email, you can get a free one JUST for LIT mail.
mail.com offers 250 alias domains. They don't have an AUTHOR.COM alias, but there is a WRITEME.COM domain. :cattail:

You can have any number of email accounts on hotmail or yahoo. I have one I share with my wife and one for this site and another for chatting and some more.

I prefer email over PC becase they tend to be raunchier. I love getting emails saying things like the reader got wet reading a story, so she went and got her vibe and climaxed at the same time as the woman in the story. Sometimes this kind of email includes an adress and sometimes it is from any mouse.

Hello all,

Yeah I know I can create another email account. It's just that for personal reasons I don't really want to.

On another note I have a questio that is really stupid and I'm going to blame the fact that my hair is blonde (BFW was right on that one).

How do I attach a photo when I am submitting something in the illustrated poetry or story category? I looked everywhere and can't figure it out.

There are two ways to do this. The easiest way is to embed the picture into a word document, along with the poem/story and upload it via the submission page. The other way is to insert a placemark in the poem/story , submit it with a statement in the notes section saying the file was sent by email and then email it (which I don't recommend).

O.k. so how do I embed the picture into a word document?

I really do know about computers. I swear I do.

And we're back to silence. I guess everyone is hard at work writing like crazy. Or maybe you got that snowstorm last week and haven't found your house yet.
Anyways I should be doing school work but I'm procrastinating.

I'm writing like crazy... yesterday I wrote five stories (shorter ones, 980-1300 words), and so far today I've written 4100 words on the next chapter of my novels and novellas story and about 1700 words on the next chapter of my mature story.

Don't know how I got so motivated this weekend, but I'm not complaining!

I try to average 1,100 words a day on those days when I work. :) So far today, I have a little over 200.

Karenna - go girl! All last week I had no motivation to write or ideas to write about either. Last night three seperate ideas came into my head so now that I've done my school work and am ready for work tomorrow I'm going to sit down and work though them.

Boxlicker - sounds like you have a plan. Sorry you're not getting as much done today. :(

Right now, I have just over 600. It's still early evening, and I expect to double that before I call it a night. I think part of the problem is that I spend too much time coming onto these forums.:(

O.k. so lets make a rule. We won't talk to you until you have all your writing done.
Lalala I can't hear you. :)

Okay, I wrote almost 1,400 words yesterday, and almost a thousand already today, and it's only a little after 9:00AM.

But, more important, today is Saint Patrick's Day! ERIN GO BRAGH.

Better yet: :D ERIN GO BRALESS! :p

Erin, cool about getting some new ideas! How was your first day back to school???

Boxlicker, awesome! Hope you got a lot more done today, and that you aren't reading this unless you have. LOL.

My grand total yesterday was 8011 words on the two stories combined that I mentioned yesterday, and another 1159 on the teen sci fi/fantasy novel I'm working on. Since I just got home from work, I'm not going to get anywhere near that done today, but I did get about 1200 words done on my novels and novellas story before I went to work this morning.

Well I survived my first day. I did get to watch a parent have a hissy fit and literally stomp out of the conference room and pout. Then we wonder why his child has issues.
Wow you guys write so much. I'm jealous.

Box - the closest you're going to get me going braless is my avatar pic - that was with a bratop. Keep dreaming :)
