A Night Out (Closed)

David thought about giving her a farewell kiss, but decided instead to kiss the back of her hand and bid her goodnight. He called the limo, and waited out the front to make sure Sarah got off ok.

Sarah called a cab. She waited for what seemed like hours before it arrived. She got inside and headed to her apartment.

David jumped in to the limo, and headed home. He let himself in, stripped off, and had a shower. It had been a long day. He towelled off, and fell naked on to his bed. After tossing and turning, and trying not to think of Sarah, David resigned himself to the fact that he wasn't going to get any sleep. He got up and found the piece of paper Sarah wrote her number on, he stared at it, admiring the writing, and the fluency of the script, and without thinking about the time, or anything else for that matter, David dialled Sarah's number before he lost his courage.

Sarah was fast asleep when the phone rang. Reluctantly she managed to get up "hello?" She asked as she rubbed her eyes wondering who could be calling her so late.

As soon as David heard Sarah's voice, he knew he had woken her up, and felt badly for it. "Uh, hi Sarah, It's David. Sorry for waking you up, but I was having trouble sleeping."

"How can I help?" She asked not sure why he was calling her. "What's wrong? Why can't you sleep?" She sighed as she laird back down as she waited for him to reply.

"I've been thinking about my actions tonight, and they have been weighing on my mind. I meant everything I said, but I want to apologise to you for coming on so strong. Like I said you deserve the best, and the way I acted tonight I was like every other guy out there, and you deserve better than that." David said.

"It's fine. You don't need to apologize. I didn't act the greatest tonight either." She said "it's difficult for me to talk about my past relationship. So I'm sorry."

"Could we try again. Maybe tomorrow night? Start a fresh. We'll pretend like tonight didn't happen. I could cook you something nice for dinner?" David said suggestively.

"Sure." Sarah said trying to stay awake "that sounds nice. I'll see you tomorrow then." She said.

"That would be great Sarah. I'll see you when you get here." David said with a smile in his voice, "Sorry again for waking you Sarah."

"It's okay. I'm going to go back to bed. Goodnight David." She said before hanging up the phone and getting comfortable, quickly falling back asleep.

The line had gone dead before David could even say 'Goodnight Sarah.' He placed his phone on his bedside table, and went to sleep smiling. The next morning David woke up, and saw the piece of paper with Sarah's number on it, and it hit him like a tonne of bricks... She was coming over for dinner.

David checked the cupboards, and the freezer to see what he had and there wasn't much. So he jumped in the car, and headed for the shops. He was going to do a classy meal, but he remembered that Sarah though he was showing off with the limos and other niceties he had showered her with last nice, so he settled on a BBQ, with salad, and maybe a nice bottle of wine.

David went home, and tidied up, prepared the salad, and had a shower, before throwing on a pair of faded blue jeans, and a polo shirt. David was about to head out the back when the doorbell rang. He went to the door, and opened it up, and saw Sarah standing there. "Hi Sarah." He said cheerily, "Come on in."

"Hi, thanks." She said as she walked into the house. She was surprised that she had actually managed to arrive on time, she had spent at least an hour trying on just about every piece of clothing she owned. Finally she had settled on a simple green summer dress and a pair of black heels.

"You look gorgeous." David said, as he closed the door behind him. "Did you have any problems finding the place. I was just about to fire up the BBQ, come on through to the back patio. Would you like a drink?" David said trying not to come on too strong, but trying to be a good host.

"Thanks. No thanks on the drink, maybe later." She said "it wasn't that hard to find." She said as she followed him to the back patio. "You have a really nice house." She commented as she looked around.

"Thanks." David said, as led her out to the back patio. David fired up the BBQ, and started scraping it down, not that it was dirty, but more because it had been a while since he used it. David looked over his shoulder, and flashed Sarah a smile, and said "I'm glad you came this evening. I didn't mean to come on so strong last night."

"It's okay. Let's just forget about it." She said "so what are you making?" She asked as she watched him "I can't remember the last time I had anything cooked on a grill." She said.

"I was just going to cook some steaks, and serve it up with salad. Keep it simple." David said smiling, "I was also hoping that maybe I could convince you to have a glass or 2 of wine over dinner too"

"I'm not sure about the wine but steak sounds good." She said "I just don't want to drink on a first date. I don't want to make any bad choices because of a cloudy mind." She said.

"Understood Sarah, but I was only thinking a glass or 2, not a whole bottle." David laughed. "And what bad choices could you make?"

She sighed "I don't know. I just don't want to wake up tomorrow with regrets." She said "do you need any help with anything?" She asked feeling a bit awkward just standing there.

David turned around and faced Sarah, taking her both her hands in his, and said "I hope you don't regret coming here. And no, there is nothing you do to help, you're a guest. Sit down. Enjoy."

"Okay..." She said looking around and finding a place to sit "so do you like to cook?" She asked

"I can cook. And yes I do like it." David said turning to the BBQ and moving the steaks around. "Back in a minute." David ducked inside, and returned with plates and cutlery in one hand, and salad in the other. David set them down on the table, and said to Sarah, "How do you like your steak?"
