A Place 🤍 for The Girl Next Door ☕️🌷

Beyond the Surface

It's only Tuesday and I'm already to call it quits! haha After just having my ass handled to me by my boss and having to defend my team I understand why people drink... BUT the meeting ended and each member of my team send me an email telling me how thankful they were to have me and singing my praises.

Sometimes it just take the simple gift of an acknowledgment to completely turn a day around.

What’s The Best Compliment You’ve Ever Received?

That I'm reliable and I stick around. That goes for both work and personal life. I'm not perfect, I make mistakes, and I don't know everything. But I show up everyday, and I do what I said I'll do.

It took me over ten years in recovery to learn to just say "thank you" to any compliment. I would always make excuses...it was nothing...it was not a big deal...anyone could do it. So even today, many compliments, even if true...fall into that vortex of self-doubt.

Which ones mean something to me? The ones where I feel appreciated.

Academically/Personally speaking it was during my last colloquia class during my undergrad degree. It was a bit more of a struggle as it was a class about interpreting art and not grounded in citations.

You either passed or failed the class. There were two assignments, with the first being a practice run to see if you were on the right path. I did fine on the practice run, but was still dreading the final assignment. Of course, like most high level classes, the assignment would not be given until the day of. Thus more nerve wracking.

The day came and we were told to visit a museum, pick a piece, and analyze using all the methods, or none of the methods we had learned in class while doing it in a way that showed we understood how to critique art.

24 hours later I had visited a museum, written my essay, turned it in by actually taking it to my Professors house (he was old school, email was not acceptable) and then the wait was on.

Three weeks later, in the mail, in a brown letter sized envelope was my essay with an A+ on the top of it and one sentence, "You were a colloquia all by yourself."

I seriously have never been more proud.

That’s huge! Being accountable is a powerful trait.

Well since I’ve been sworn to secrecy ;) I’ll just say that compliments of you should be a mile long....

But I’m also terrible at receiving compliments. I’m not sure if it’s a trust thing or self esteem thing...but I tend to brush them off as well.

Do you have that saved and framed? I totally would have :)

I guess I would define the archetypal differences as:

The Girl Next Door may be:
• Outwardly wholesome
• Attractive in a pretty way
• Book smart
• Shy at first
• Charming
• Modest
• Wears heart on her sleeve

The Girl Down the Street may be:
• Rebellious
• Exotically beautiful
• Street smart
• Attention seeking
• Party girl
• Aggressive/Assertive
• Wears her sexuality on her sleeve

Neither is right or wrong and everyone has their own tastes. Some like the excitement of “The Girl Down the Street” – she may be easier to read and you may enjoy knowing what you’re in for. Some like the mystery of “The Girl Next Door” – she may hide her secrets a bit and you may enjoy peeling back the layers.

Hear, hear! :nana:

In terms of Archie comics, Betty is the Girl Next Door, while Veronica is more like the Girl Down the Street.

But someone has to live next to the girl down the street? unless she lives out in the country somewhere with uncle Bob and Aunt Jane

For a while growing up I lived next to the girl down the street - she was always getting me in trouble! buying her cigarettes, staying out late while she partied with the older guys and I watched, sneaking out when we were grounded. She knew I had the biggest crush on her and led me around like the sad little puppy... lol

I'm of the belief that cell phone are the root of all evil. Ok, maybe not all evil... but they become a time suck, leave you with no work/life balance, and even accidentally call people even when you do not mean to....as was the case for me today.

What is the strangest/funniest/most surprising butt-dial you have had the pleasure of receiving?

Can’t remember many

A long time ago when I worked for Albertsons....

“Hello, thanks for calling Albertsons, how can I help you?”
“Is this.... Al’s movers?”
“Uh, no this is Albertsons”
“Oh.... okay. Well, let me talk to the deli”

That's not a butt-dial...that's just a moron :)

Good to see you, Woody! ((hug))

Framed? No. I think I have it somewhere. I am not sure. I ended up purging a lot of old school work and papers some time back. I am not sure if I kept the box with all my school work, or not.

Grrrrrr. 😊😜😇

Proving once again your exquisite taste in all things sexy.

Oh, you flatter me too much :)

You mean you don’t have every report card back to kindergarten? ... I mean, yeah...of course not.... 😳
