I think he was crazy ass bold to do a cover of that song. And the fact it was well received in the country crowd? Amazing!! It certainly was good for Tracy too.
First time I heard it, I questioned who it was because I thought it sounded so much like her voice. But after a while I can tell better.

It was good for both of them. He wanted to cover it because when he was a kid his father, a southern man through and through, loved the song of a queer black woman. And Luke thought then if music could reach through all the crap of the times to touch his father's heart, it was magic.
