A tempting transformation (Closed)

“Actually, they’re all probably super jealous. I just don’t want to get a reputation. Waking up in some guy’s car doesn’t look really innocent, now does it?” Maggie sat up and watched several people walk by the car with curious looks.

Maggie checked her pockets after seeing that Robert was checking her phone. She didn’t even think to see if her mom called to check on her. She pulled out her phone and had a single missed call, no voice mall. It was her mom, but she called sometime late last night, meaning she was still sleeping now. She dialed her mother’s cell phone number and waited until her message machine came on. She listened to her mom’s cheerful voice telling everyone to leave a message and to have a good day.

“I’m going to be home later, I fell asleep like I guessed I would. My car is trapped by everyone else’s; I won’t be able to come home until they do. Give me a call when you wake up.” She said quietly into her phone and put it back into her pocket.

“Don’t have anyone looking for you yet, Robert?” Maggie asked and leaned forward against the passenger side seat.

She asked just when he pulled into an old diner that looked familiar. Maggie knew she was here before when she was a kid, but she didn’t know who would have taken her. Her mom was more into the classy fashioned restaurants, but this looked like a place her dad would love. Maggie squinted when she got out of the car at the bright sun.

Chuckling at her words, he continued on his way. Listening to her talk to her mother, while pulling out he wondered why he never had that sort of relationship with her... she grew up too fast was what he settled on. Her talking to him brought him out of his thought, looking into the rear view mirror at her. "Yeah, but it isn't important right now. I will check them probably after breakfast." he said thinking it would be rude to check it while at breakfast, or with someone.

After pulling into the restaurant, he walks out and goes inside with Maggie. Getting a booth for 2, they have a bit of a wait time. Sitting down on the bench, it looked like maybe 2 people were in front of them. Leaning back, he wished he had coffee to deal with his slight headache... "Ugh, we drank too much last night." he said smirking at her. He didnt remember all or even most of last night, though it came in as flashes.

Remembering what he told her he put his hands into his face blushing a little bit though chuckling. "Did I really tell you those things?" he asked her, though his blush went away he was a mix between shocked and on the verge of laughing about it.

They got called up soon before the 2 people in front of them were. Letting her go in before him, he followed her to their seats. The waiter asking for their drinks to start them off, Robbert asked for coffee after Maggie ordered.

They only sat for a few minutes on a bench waiting until they were called. Her head wasn’t hurting as much as her neck probably caused from sleeping in a car all night. She thought that orange juice or something else cold would release some tension from her head and neck. She didn’t remember much of what happened the night before, she vaguely recalled watching Robert dance and then sitting outside on a bench with him. Maggie could have sworn she hadn’t drunk as much as Robert thought they did, the way she remembered it was that her glass was always full. The way she felt proved that she must have had been refilling it every time it was empty.

"Did I really tell you those things?"

Maggie wasn’t sure what he was talking about specifically. She tried to remember what he could have told her that was so embarrassing to make him blush, but she didn’t recall anything horrible. She shrugged and laughed quietly to herself. His face looked almost horrified that he said something he shouldn’t have. It was almost cute, the way he buried his face in his hands. There wasn’t much that a guy could say while drunk and be embarrassed about the next morning, especially when talking to her. She knew everyone’s secrets, if they knew it or not wasn’t relevant.

“What are you talking about? What did you tell me?” Maggie asked as they were escorted to their booth.

The waiter took both of their orders, starting off with her own. She suddenly remembered how she knew this place; it was somewhere her father took her occasionally when she was a kid. Without glancing at the menu she ordered her favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes with bananas, strawberries, and blueberries on top with chocolate sauce. She also ordered a glass of orange juice along with it and listened to Roberts order. She felt silly that she was getting a meal and he was just getting coffee, but she wasn’t going to change her mind.

“Wait, did I say anything last night? I can’t really remember much.” She asked and played with the sugar packets on the table.

"You dont remember what happened last night?" he asked... though he didnt remember much but more and more was getting clearer for him. He knew he didnt drink as much as her, pouring some extra into her cup. Smiling, "Maybe you will remember..." he said, oddly hoping she would... would be fun.

When she ordered he added eggs and pancakes as well, he usually ordered this or french toast. eagerly waiting for the coffee. Leaning back he waited listening to her next question... Her comments were still a little a little foggy. "I dunno, but if it was anything like what i told you... i hope to remember it." nodding smiling widely.

Getting the OJ and the coffee, he thanked her. Automatically putting cream and taking one of her sugar packets like he usually did. taking a drink, closing his eyes... it wasn't the best coffee but it went right to his head, lightly calming him and waking him more. Looking over at Maggie, he was happy that she would make time for him... though he wasn't her father this time, but it was still good to eat a meal with her.

Noticing he was staring a little he looked away, he blushed a little. The feeling of butterflies in his stomach felt so strange, with Rose he never worried too much on what to say. Looking around the small restaurant, he asked her... "So... who were you there at the party for?" knowing that their interaction was just chance.

Maggie tried to think about what she told him the night before, if anything. The whole memory was rushed and missing different parts of conversations. Because of her short height and body weight she knew she couldn’t handle her drinking very well, that’s why she rarely ever allowed someone else to pour drinks for her. Thankfully he didn’t seem to remember much of what she said either and if he did he wasn’t bringing it up to embarrass her further.

“I’ll remember eventually, I always do. It only takes a few words to trigger something and from there I can fill in the rest. I don’t think anything to huge could’ve happened or I would have remembered.” Maggie yawned softly and brushed her fingers through her hair.

The waitress came back with their drink orders and left without a word. Maggie was starting to remember alright, but it wasn’t about last night. It was about this diner and her dad. When she was younger her mom was going through a homemaker phase, wanting to cook and bake everything the family ate. Her father at the time couldn’t have been more different. He liked finding new places and trying new things, whether food or a small run down book store. On one of his expeditions he brought her along, promises of antique toys and scrumptious chocolate covered pancakes convinced her. They didn’t have to drive far at all to find a small diner that opened recently. That day led to many other Sundays eating pancakes and orange juice.

She didn’t realize that while she had been deep in thought her fingers dipped into the pulp filled glass of juice. Maggie took a napkin from the dispenser and wiped her fingers clean. She sipped a bit of the juice from a straw and listened to Robert’s question.

“My friend was hosting it and she asked me to come. I had other friends coming of course, but I thought I might see a guy that I liked. We went out a few times but he never calls anymore, I thought if he saw me socializing it would make him jealous.” Maggie smiled and took a few more sips. “I also went because I thought that it would be a good distraction from school and home. You know how things can be, like, hectic and crazy sometimes? Well, I just wanted to take a break for the night. What, or who, brought you to the party?”

Nodding to her comment he waited for his drink to come. Taking a drink when he finally got it ready. Enjoying the flavors going into his mouth then down his throat.

Listening to her answer his question he had her pause after wanting to make him jealous. "So, was he there and did he get jealous?" Robbert asked looking over at her... he wasn't really paying attention to other people at the house so he didn't really notice anyone overly watching them. Letting her continue he then asked when she was finished, "What kind of problems?" He could guess the ones at home, but he wanted to be one of the people she could talk to.

While listening to her, he fiddled with his empty coffee cup, wanting more but waiting for the waitress to come over and fill it. Remembering how they snuck out to come here was amusing, wondering if she remembered it at all but knowing it would be weird to bring it up.

Eventually while she was talking, the waitress filled his cup and brought the food. Still more eager to hear her he prepared his food and drink, so he wouldn't have to wait to swallow before answering her.
