Flint, Michigan is (and has pretty much always been) a Democratic Party stronghold. In April of 2014, the city decided to switch its water supply from Lake Huron (via the city of Detroit) to the Flint River. Residents immediately began to complain about the quality of their drinking water. The new water system was soon discovered to be contaminated with chemicals that can cause nervous system problems and increased risk of cancer, and General Motors refused to use the water because it was rusting car parts!
Criminal charges were eventually filed against eight people, including the former Michigan Department of Health & Human Services director Nick Lyon; former Michigan chief medical executive Eden Wells; former emergency managers Gerald Ambrose & Darnell Earley; DHHS officials Nancy Peeler & Robert Scott; Department of Environmental Quality official Patrick Cook; and former Flint Department of Public Works Director Howard Croft, but all charges were DISMISSED last week by the state's attorney general.
