AH=Clique

Can't say I totally disagree with the first poster. It's not easy to not see it as a clique when you start posting and everything you say is "analysed" and scrutinized. Some even go as far as wondering out loud if you are not a troll or an alt of somebody not mature and adult enough to come forward.

All newbies have to start somewhere but if when we start posting everybody questions the validity of our identity.....really it's not easy.

Damned if we do. Damned if we don't.

We all came out to play with the newbie poster, who never came back. We didn't bite -- didn't even bark (much).

Getting "in" here is exactly like it is in any other group -- online or off. It can be intimidating at first, but if you don't get in the water, you'll never know if you really want to swim with this school of fishies or not.

This is, quite frankly, the most welcoming group of perverts I've ever encountered. (Okay, it's the only one.)

I don't think it's any more clique-ish than any other group of people, to be honest, and it's probably less so than some.

Yes, there are inside jokes, etc., that aren't clear to everyone, or to those that haven't been around awhile, but again, that happens with any group of friends.

I was pretty much greeted with open arms when I joined, and I've seen others treated the same way. There have been some that have been ignored, but only after showing that that's what they deserved. I think, on a whole, new people are given every chance to join in, if that's what they choose to do.

Quite so cloudy dear, that has to be a lot of the problem with some new folks, they don't want to put effort into joining in... So many new peeps, (not you of course dear), have joined this forum over the years I've been here, I always put myself out to say welcome if I spot them, only to be completely ignored by 50% of them, come on newbies if you want to fit in, at least have the courtesy to aknowledge an oldie who says hello.

This thread poster has done very well anyway, looking through the list of people who've replied here, a number have never had the courtesy to speak to me even after an invite by way of a thread comment... I always ignore such people after the third attempt to be a friend.

The AH strikes me as a clique. Go back to high school, junior high even, and then look here to the AH. Little groups are formed. And it seems to me that there are people favored and placed on a pedestal. And those who are weaker, they are ignored by others.

Is this really the atmosphere of the AH? Is this how it really should be?

Hi TF! It sometime feels to me that there are a lot of voices here, and on some days you just have to shout louder than usual to be heard!

Hey, Crim - you know I love you and have a great respect for your writing  :rose:

Pops,

I have no idea why people don't reply or respond to some of my posts. I don't draw any conclusions from silence. I assume either that they have said all they want on that thread or that their attention has been diverted to another topic. Even real life can get in the way of responding appropriately. All of us can be thread killers.

The writer of Slack Alice is never going to be anything less than a legend in the AH. Legends can be scary, not just to newbies.

Ah none of us respond to threads that aren't of interest oggie, we'd wind up making some unrelated quipp, that would be hi-jacking and heaven forbid. No the ones I mean are those you or I or whoever make a direct remark inviting a reply only to be ignored.

Seriously though, I sometimes have the inclination to respond but then I see the thread has already moved on by 5 pages. LOL
Life passes me by, even on the internet. * sigh*

That tears it-- it's a clique. She responded right away. We're fucking doomed. Maybe medication is the answer?

Nah. A human would have to be pretty fiercely medicated to avoid being involved in cliquish behavior. Unconsciousness, for instance, might help, but anything less, I think you'll still find it.

Online you got less to lose being friendly, but that doesn't mean people take the trouble, most places. I mean, I get grumpy, too, but for the most part, we do all right here. People sorta figured the poster for an alias, but there is a lot of that sort of game play here.

too cliquish for me! No one responded and praised my insightful posts.

:D

I did, didn't I?

I probably respond to way too much, in fact. Even when people might not want me to. :D How else do you think I've got such a bloody high post count? Mouthy cow. ;)

*goes back to check thread. Might be gone a while*

Oh, and that Lou. Yeah, I think so, too. Too bloody quick for her own good sometimes. Needs sorting out.

Hmmm, I wonder who's gonna do that? :D
